QUOTE
Personally I don't think saying something is gay is derragotory towards homosexuals, keyword being "something" but saying someone is gay with the intent to insult said person is bad but that has to do with the fact that it was meant to be insulting and slanderous.

saying something is bad is the same thing

it implies that being gay is a negative thing, to be associateed with dislike and discontent
as to what i can do? big scale, nothing. within my group of friends, yell at them until they stop it.

little things make a big difference when fighting ignorance and intolerance

Exactly. Like, my teacher for instance. Hes homosexual. When someone in his class lets something like "thats gay" slip, (since most people know hes homosexual, it doesn't happen very often) but he says, define "gay" and they realize what they've said, and that its stupid, so, that has made a lot of people in my school watch what the say. Espically around him.

There is nothing wrong with being a homosexual and I can understand why homosexuals feel that they're being persecuted all the time and the fact is that this country does not find homosexuality to be socially acceptable but mearly tolerated (to some extent) which saddening to say the least. That said I too find ignorance and bigotry to ridiculous so keep up the good fight. You done with the soapbox?

and have you abandoned the ignorant crap that b/c i can tchange something globally i should stop trying?

No because I do not find that to be true.

I'm not weak-minded and I never said for you to stop trying to help the world.

What I will say is that your quest is great and all but please calm down and go about it more maturely.

From your initial post you sound almost jealous that you can't go about calling things black in a derogatory sense. Which is strange, unless you meant it to be racially motivated.

you misunderstood what i was saying. i just dont understand why racism is considered to be more of an issue than homophobia.

i dont exactly understand why you consider my method of expressing myself to be imature... coul you please elaborate?

i admit, i used to use the word gay in a negative way, but it's possible to stop. we all have the minds capable of coming up with less insulting things to say.

hglatinboy (sorry i don't know your name): james isn't hurting anybody, and he's not insulting anyone. just because something he says might seem to mean something doesn't mean it does.. i think he's smart enough to just say it and not hide his intentions (or at least, we hope he is). nobody else has complained about his immaturity, so please, just drop it.

james, please don't gloat over this either. as far as i can see, both of you pretty much agree on the topic.

i feel like an idiot. sorry to anybody i insulted .. not intentionally, i promise.

i'm one of those people who use the word gay. i'm trying not to say it, though i've gotten used to it. worse, i said queer several times. i learned that it isn't respectful to say it, but sometimes i just really don't care. kyahbye

You are a complete ass. James can say cretin if he wants. You should not be saying the word "gay" just to piss him off. You are just trying to cause drama, please stop.

Well, you can break out of habits. It is just not cool to say "gay". It is an offensive word, and I *and many others* would appreciate it if you refrained from using it out of context.

It does make me mad when people use "gay" out of context. I do it myself sometimes, and yes, that's contradicting, but at least I try to stop myself from doing it. I had an arguement the other day with these two girls saying "gay".

1st girl: You're so gay!
2nd girl: Well you're bisexual!
Me: Stop it.
1st girl: Are you gay?
Me: No, but it's rude to say "gay" like that.
2nd: You're so gay!
Me: Stfu. Now.
