Huh?
At least give us a timeline or a time period to work with... we are talking about more than 4,000 years of history here. |

japanese had samurais and stuff like that but i think china had the better armies because of all their weapons and catapults and large numbers...yeah. but if japanese had an army of samurais..the world is screwed.

A good sword in the hands of an incompetent is a useless sword. |

katanas are regarded as the best swords ever made.
however, i believe the soviet tanks were much better, and japan didn't even have tanks. |

hmm... there's a name for them?
they're my dad's and he 'taught' me this series of steps and stuff with them that demonstrate techniques... i had to memorize them in a week for an 'exhibition' for this small local cultural accociation... even though we aren't japanese... yea, my dad is a black belt in kendo, which is why he has them... |

If you're talking really ancient... well actually Japan used to be part of China. It was not until Ming/Ching dynasty (can't remember) then it became independent.
In the late 19th century, Japan started getting stronger. It's hard to compare without a timeline ![]() |

That's hot. I love martial arts... I own one, but aside from certain drawing techniques and where to place my sword when I'm sitting, I don't remember much about using them. My Dad's black belt in Judo, but I have a boken just for fun ![]() QUOTE It's hard to compare without a timeline That's why I asked the topic starter to set a time period or something. It's ridiculous. |

It's hard to compare without a timeline omg none of u people know anything about history....first of all, Japan was never conquered by China...even the Mongols failed to conquer Japan due to a typhoon that wiped out the Mongol invasion fleet... if ur talkin ancient times, lets say, Chinese Tang Dynasty era, then Japan was really nothing but a barbaric nation of warring clans.... back then, it was NOTHING compared to China, or even Korea for that matter....in fact, Japans royal bloodline traces back to Korean kings... |

We still haven't figured out which Ancient times where talkin' here. Way back in the ming dynasty? When the chinese were superior with their sword wielding horse riding people. Japanese with their bushido and shinobi style. A billion chinese people vs a bunch of Samurai and Nin's. Seems like it'll be a fun war.

QUOTE(kryogenix @ Mar 29 2005, 6:37 PM) err... you see, they're really my dad's so i have no idea... tell me what each one looks like and i could probably tell you. EDIT: taking a stab here, but bokkan are longer and shinai are shorter, right? if so, then they're bokkans... |
