Recently I've been contemplating getting birth control for some personal reasons, but I'm kind of stuck as far as which I should use.

If any of you use any of these forms, let me know how well they work, and if they're within a decent price-range, and any other helpful information.

1. the Pill
2. the Shot
3. the Nuva Ring
4. the Patch

Personally, I'm stuck between the shot and the nuva ring.
I'm not sure I could remember to take the pills, and well, the Patch seems a bit sketchy, but eh. who knows.

take all of them? ..is that dangerous?

sorry, i dont know much about this..

lmfao.

honestly, if you haven't the slightest clue, it's best not to even really give advice.

You normally have to be perscribed for those contraceptives, so it's unlikely that you'd be able to take all of those forms.

i suggest the pill....it's easier to take and more effective, in my opinion....next one i would go with is the patch....it's either the patch or the pill for me

also, i wouldnt do the shot or the nuva ring....just thinking about it gives me the creeps *shivers* lol

It's all up to you....i mean, i wouldnt go with the nuva ring and the shot because i think it's a little painful...i dunno...dont mind me wacko.gif

Yeah, I wouldn't mind the shot, it seems simple, and well, I don't mind the needles at all.

That whole ring in my vagina seemed a bit awkward, so I definitely wanted to shy away from that. I just... yeah, I picture this ring, in my vagina, all of the sudden just falling out admist a shower; that'd be the creepiest thing ever.

i agree.....if you want to take the shot, that's fine...it's all about how comfortable you feel with the shot. but i suggest the pill out of all of them. if you cant remember, maybe put an alarm clock or something...i dunno

Are you referring to the Nexy Dat pill, which can be taken up to abour 72 hours?
That's not what I'm looking for; I don't want a fly-by method at all. Thanks though.

Yeah, those are generally the pills you use if you a. didn't use protection, b. the condom broke. It's usually referred to as the "next day pill." Those aren't really "too strong," but rather just emergency contraceptives, not monthly--the kind I'm asking about.

I just realized that I did "nexy dat" instead of next day. :X

& Yeah, i figured that's what she meant.
I've never really had to go that route though.
I had a friend who has had to several times, and not because she chose to be unprepared.

I couldn't honestly tell you what the pill actually does, though I know what it's for (confused, no?)

I'm assuming it causes you to lose your egg (that might've been "occupied") in period form. I can't believe I don't know what it's effects are at all. hmm -goes to look up-

No, those other forms are monthly ways to PREVENT pregnancy.

The Plan B is a pill that is taken if you are not protected against pregnancy, and is only taken after unprotected sex.

QUOTE
Emergency Contraception

... can prevent pregnancy after unprotected vaginal intercourse. It is also called post-coital or "morning-after" contraception.

... is available from health care providers, Planned Parenthood health centers, and other women's health and family planning centers.

... is provided in two ways

    * emergency contraception pills (ECPs)

    * insertion of an IUD

... is used only if a woman is not already pregnant from a previous act of intercourse. EC prevents pregnancy by stopping ovulation, fertilization, or implantation. It will not cause an abortion.

well i would go for the shot. With the pills and patch, you must remember to do it on time or else it can mess up your whole cycle.

what i meant is i suggest taking the monthly pills, not the emergency ones of course....lol. but i was just saying that because dorkbaby pointed out about the emergency ones..i wasnt sure if that was one of the emergency pill. so i was just curious and said what i said because i wasnt sure if the one she was talking about was either an emergency one or a regular monthly basis one....sorry for all the commotion _smile.gif

Don't go on the Patch. I was on it for about two months, but I didn't have sex when I was on it. I just didn't feel like it was going to work. And it leaves sticky patches on your skin. They fell off when I swam, too.

I'm on the Pill right now. I didn't think I'd remember them either. But after about a week it was just a natural thing for me. I'm still on them now- they work just fine.

My mom was on the shot. She didn't get her period or anything. But it took about 3 years for her period to come back after she went off it. So I guess it could delay your ability to become pregnant once you stop taking it?

I'd like to stop the pill and try the Nuva Ring. Just because it's >99% effective. But I don't know if I really want something IN my body like that.

I'm on the pill, and it works. The shot, the only problem with it is you gain weight...eh..Plus it doesn't wear off after you stop taking it for a while. It can also cause fertility problems...Which sucks.

Thank-you perfectxflaw23, and iwalkbackwards. I was honestly leaning towards the shot, since it was honestly the easy way out, but the possibility of being infertile and it taking so long for your period to come back doesn't seem all that pleasing. I'll probably end up with the pill.. but again, thankyooou.

emergency contraception is like a quick flush of hormones. Its a pill that makes you sick if you dont eart with it as a matter of fact. It actually unsafe for regular uses. Its used to flush out the egg before the little guys can fertilize it. And you can only get it if you have had unprotected sex within 72 hours. Period. They wont give it to you and other way. Its great for rape victims who dont wanna get pregnant. Now. Birth control.

Pill: everyday. Can you remember to do it every day?
Patch: once a week. Not much better than everyday. And you cannot miss a day either.
Shot: I hate shots, but this is only three months. You get 4 shots a year, and I think you only get 4 periods a year as well. Iwanna get that because it lightens ur pms symptoms (cramps, bloatedness etc) as well as gets rid of a couple periods a year. BUT my best advice is to go to plannedparenthood.org and read all about them all. It lists all side effects as well as how often you have to take them. Also, if you go to a planned parenthood in your neighborhood, you can get a payment plan. They only charge you what you can [ay. So if you make 5,000 doallars a month, they charge you full [irce, but if you are unemployed, they will sharge you less. They make it so everyone has a chance to protect themselves. Its pretty cool. So then you can talk to someone and find a treatment and payment thats best for you. so theres my advice. Take it well. happy.gif

I think you should go with the shot but if you are contemplating between the shot and pill then I'm sure whichever one you decide to go with will be fine.

I think pill is too much for ya. Maybe a patch. And shot hurts like damn...well I never tried for birth control stuff... but other things yeah..and you know it hurts like PAIN IN THE ASS. so maybe a simple patch will be a good one.

i am on the pill right now and at first i didn't think i would remember...but now i've just made it part of my routine in the morning. so i would personally recommend the pill.

my friend had the patch but i think she stopped, something about it just made her really feel blah, also it was looked ridiculus.
