just like the topic...
what should i do? my mom said to eat cold food and cold drinks to make period come earlier...
but that may not always work though...
and tampon is the only way?

and i can't go out to shop for tampons, my mom has to DRIVE me to there.

and also i think my mom doesn't even know much about tampons, when she is in that line, she only talks about pads.

go buy them and use them without her knowing..if you arent cool with that then explain to her that its necessary and that it wont always work..tell her you will only use them when you swim if she wants..negotiate with her somehow..at least..thats my opinion

Print up some the FAQ from tampax.com, and some of the Dr's FAQ's so she can be more aware about tampons, and their use.

Or if you need to, go to your nurse, and ask her for tampons, or buy some at school. School's normally have some available. Or approach your swim coach, and maybe ask her/him if they have any available.

Haha, or ask your friends to bring their supply to school, so you can have some, at least just enough when you're swimming and stuff.

That's so stupid. Tell your mom you need tampons rigth now and kneel down and cry. even if you're not going swimming you need tampons, htey are 100 times better than pads, at least in my opinion. pads are uncomfertable and feel worse than a diaper..and they stink stubborn.gif tampons may take a couple tiems trying but once you get em in you'll love em..garunteed.

Tell your mom that you need em really badly and that lots of girls use them and they're fine. I use them, I should know, they're sent form heaven happy.gif it maeks it feel like you're not even having yer period.

I can't beelive your mom has never used a tampon, no WONDER girls find their periods so annoying...I mean pads suck like heck!!! I don't mind my period at all...I don't get cramps very much anymore and when I have a tmapon in I can't even feel it, it's awsome!!!! you absolutely must tell your mom to let you get tampons..you msut msut must must must!!!!!!! OR you can go with a freind you know really really well and buy tampons with her, but if I were you I'd jsut tell your mom, becasue you always need to refill your stock and you can't go with a freind everytime.

beleive me, I knwo how hard it is to ask your mom for someitnhg embarrising, especially if ti's sometihng they know nothing about and disaprove of.

Like with my mom it was bras...she never wore a bra and doens't to this day, but I really desperately wanted some at teh age aroudn 12. I was far too embarrised to ask and even asked my freinds for advice. eventually I ended up sending her a letter and leaving it on her bed...lame I know, but that was my way of solving that problem. even after that it was tough casue neither of us knew anythign about shopping for bras.

anwyays, if you don't knwo what to get, I'll tell you: make sure the tampons you buy have aplicators, the plastic/cardboard things on the outside of the tampon to make it easier to put in...the ones without them are cheaper, but I like having the aplicator. Also, for your first tiems make sure they are called "teen" or sometihng like "extra smooth" or "plastic for easy insertion" etc. that really helps. also, make sure you get the smaller sizes cause that's what you'll need to use at first.

I hope that helped, and all the best luck. _smile.gif

Eh, if you use any kind of tampon, use Playtex. They're a good brand; don't use those Pearl brand tampons, the fibers can come off of the tampon, and attach itself to the vaginal wall, and can create exterme discomfort.

If you do get tampons, make sure they're plastic applicators. They insert easier then the carboard ones.

Oh, you can't get them in "certain sizes" perse. They don't come in small, large, etc. You can get different absorbancies, but all tampons are the same size.

Yeah, I read something about them ahwile ago, though apparently it's just some kind of nu-wave urband legend. Who knows though, I don't buy pearl. I've always loved Playtex.

well, first of all, water won't do anything to your period. it is just a mere coincedience if anything happens dealing with your period. the only thing that could affect it in that matter is birth control pills. however, talk to your mom about your discomfort about wearing pads. make a compromise with her. don't demand or beg for her to change her mind, it will inevitably make her more upset about the whole situation. explain to her in a calming way about why you don't like pads and why you'd rather use tampons. If you have a job and/or your own money, buy it regardless because although she has to drive you there (you can buy it when she goes food shopping) you are still purchasing it from your own money so she really can't complain. but, I think the mature way is to talk to her as an adult and explain to her why you don't like them. She'll respect you more in the end, trust me. Good luck! biggrin.gif

Yeah, she probably doesn't know much about tampons. You should talk about it to her.
If she still doesn't agree, ask your friend if you can have some.

Is this swimming for school? If so, tell her that you have to swim otherwise you'll get a bad grade. Try to negotiate with her that you'll put one in RIGHT before you swim, and switch back to a pad RIGHT afterward. Tell her that it's the only way. And if she won't let you, you're going to go to your school nurse. But don't phrase it quite that way.

Maybe your mom feels your not ready for tampons. Or maybe she just doesnt like them herself so she prefers you to use pads. Pads can be more comfortable but tampons are good for sports. If you have any questions go ahead and email me =)

eating cold food and drinking cold drinks makes your period come faster? i think that's a load of bullshit. i don't understand why your mom isn't letting you use tampons. as long as you use them correctly, they're more comfortable than pads and safe too. maybe your mom hasn't had a lot of experience with tampons. just ask a friend or a school nurse... and they sells tampons everywhere, they should be pretty easy to get

I've never heard that before...my mom's the queen of puberty urban legends, but not even she told me that one.

I suggest having a friend that uses tampons bring you some. Or you can go with classic begging. It sucks that your mom isn't more understanding pinch.gif

all im going to say is, for your first time make sure you get the slim, or teen ones the ones that are smaller and easier to put in. and they do come in different sizes... cause just look at a teen, regular, super... and whatever the other names are.. there is a difference in there size. or at least i see it.
