What Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, and a few other rappers did to rap makes me sick. Rap used to actually be about something. But they turned it into something meaningless. There are still rappers that talk about things that matter though, and those are the ones i like.

QUOTE take you to the candy shop I'll let you lick the lollypop Go 'head girl, don't you stop Keep goin 'til you hit the spot (woah) [Olivia] I'll take you to the candy shop Boy one taste of what I got I'll have you spending all you got Keep going 'til you hit the spot (woah) is it degrading if girls give someone head? girls have done it way before this song...i do it, does that mean i degrade myself? QUOTE [Verse 1: 50 Cent] You can have it your way, how do you want it You gon' back that thing up or should i push up on it Temperature rising, okay lets go to the next level Dance floor jam packed, hot as a teakettle I'll break it down for you now, baby it's simple If you be a nympho, I'll be a nympho In the hotel or in the back of the rental On the beach or in the park, it's whatever you into Got the magic stick, I'm the love doctor Have your friends teasin you 'bout how sprung I gotcha Wanna show me how you work it baby, no problem Get on top then get to bouncing round like a low rider I'm a seasons vet when it come to this shit After you work up a sweat you can play with the stick I'm tryin to explain baby the best way I can I melt in your mouth girl, not in your hands (ha ha) women can't embrace sex the way men can? why must there be a double standard? is it slutty for us to do these types of things? he's talking about one woman, it's not like she's a one night stand QUOTE [Verse 2: 50 Cent] Give it to me baby, nice and slow Climb on top, ride like you in the rodeo You ain't never heard a sound like this before Cause I ain't never put it down like this Soon as I come through the door she get to pullin on my zipper It's like it's a race who can get undressed quicker Isn't it ironic how erotic it is to watch em in thongs Had me thinking 'bout that ass after I'm gone I touch the right spot at the right time Lights on or lights off, she like it from behind So seductive, you should see the way she wind Her hips in slow-mo on the floor when we grind As Long as she ain't stoppin, homie I aint stoppin Drippin wet with sweat man its on and popping All my champagne campaign, bottle after bottle its on And we gon' sip til every bubble in the bottle is gone women can't feel sexy? women can't be proud that their man thinks of them sexually during the day? this song is not degrading to women |

Women can feel sexy all they want. W00t for women.
But 50 is objectifying women. And if he did this once in a while, it would be ok. But he does it constantly. Why are we so obsessed with sex? It's not degrading women? Have you heard some of the mainstream stuff? It's just bitches, hoes, club, car, pimpin, bitches, hoes, sex, club, gangsta, oh and did i mention, bitches and hoes? |

But what pisses me off is its always the same shit over and over. mainstream rap has lost all meaning. Tupac was a fairly cool rapper. He talked about what he saw in his neighborhood, the struggle on the streets, the violence and ending it. If 50 did this then I would respect him a lot more. I mean, he needs to grow up. Ok, he knows about sex, i get it. So immature.. |

Most mainstream artists have so little or no talent whatsoever that they have to talk about sex, women, gangsta shit, money, etc. to sell records because for some reason, thats what the listeners like to hear. Artists such as these give the name of rap music a beating. Rap, just like any other form of music or art, does have a point, does have a meaning, and does take talent. Unfortunately, you have to search for it.
My point? Don't form opinions of rap music based on what is mainstream because this does not represent the essense of rap music. You can not fully appreciate it if you don't know who the good artists are. Those who follow rap or hiphop music know what I'm talking about. For those of you who don't and are interested, try Mos Def, Common, Talib Kweli, Royce Da 5'9, De La Soul, The Roots, etc. |

I don't like most rap, but there are a few songs... Like Toy Soldiers, Mockingbird, Lose Yourself, My Band, and How Come. Funny, all from the same person, and I can't stand anything else of his. XD

I was jut about to say absolutely that.Mos Def , Common , Kweli and the roots( MY FAV ) are the best. Add to that list K-Os and your set. All of these plus several other are some of the deepest and most devoted people in hiphop. They all flow about things that matter. It's pretty sorry how they dont get nearly as much recognition of there talents as to a 50 cent or a nelly. |

IMO, there is a difference between rap and hip-hop. I despise hip-hop with every fiber of my being, but I like some rap. White boy rap that is, like The Beastie Boys. I don’t like the kind that talk about nothing but sex and drugs, you know, the mainstream stuff.
