people label music. i'm interested in how you label music. what do you consider "emo", "punk", "slowjam", "r&b", "hip hop", "rap", "pop", "hardcore", "metal", "rock", "alternative", "grunge", "industrial", "trance", "house", "techno", "country", "screamo", "soul", "ballads", "reggae", and the list goes on and on (add more to the list if you wish).

i just want to see the diversity in the definitions of each "genre".

i dunno if these are genres they are to me, but,
powerpop, and electronica

i think emo, is like bright eyes, and tbs, kinda sad, and kinda slow, not really much screaming. but mean alot.
and.. screamo emo with screaming. which is plain cool. soul umm, like india.arie, and macy gray, i love it, slow and just simple and sweet.
dunno if thats even what you wanted, but tats what i think of each genre.

that's why i wanna know what everyone's definitions are. people bitch at people everyday saying "blah blah he's not rock! blah blah that's not hip hop! blah blah that's not jazz!". i'm half interested and half trying to prove a point that not everyone agrees to what genres are because there are no absolute standards for them.

"emo" - sucking up and whining about how horrid parts of their life are
"punk" - look at me, im a rebel, and if you don't like it, you can go f**k yourself
"slowjam" - slower.... wow this is hard.... black oriented music.... its slow with a little bop to it.
"r&b" - rhythm and blues? i think its a little without the blues lately, but why not
"hip hop" - more of a dance beat to rap, not nearly as hardcore as it
"rap" - hardcore rhymes about life and really... really... loud.... less rhythm, more beats
"pop" - bubbly and light. just like pop.... bubbly.... sparkly, i dont know what else to say
"hardcore" - what really is hardcore.... more like slipknot, im thinking REALLY mixed metal with rap.... more of a metal aspect to modern goth.
"metal" - anything with thrashing and loud booming noises. guitar banging and a lot of bass.
"rock" - exactly what it is.... rock.... lighter than metal
"alternative" - alternating the original genre of the item, you can't really give it any other of the rock based genres, or it may be a heavy mix of both
"grunge" - really down and dirty. I think of it as rusty white trash music but *shrugs* not my style.
"industrial" - hrm i dont know what to say.... industrial.... i think this music is a lot of futuristic type of rock.
"trance" - music that enhances and hypnotizes your mind. it gets in in a constant rhythm.
"house" - WHAT?! lol.... house?
"techno" - similar to trance excpet with more beats and sounds added, while trance is more soothing, this is more or less upbeat with a flare of dance
"country" - annoying :P. hillbilly trash deciding to try their rock skills out.
"screamo" - emo.... with a lot of screaming, complaining, and whining, in a more hardcore tone.
"soul" - music that refreshes the body. it revolves more around the christian aspect of music.
"ballads" - love songs, am i correct? They mix light rock with poems.
"reggae" - jamaican music that have a lot of beats nad bops and just really upbeat and get together type of music.

Word.
I hate labeling music.
It's either good or not.
