I was talking to this boy on aim and he said that he was going to kill himself. He said: "...im going to go kill myself, i am seriously doing it, im so depressed i just dont want to live anymore, and i will miss shelly the most, i hope you have a pleasant life..........". He is not my favorite person in the world and has a reputation of being an 'attention whore'.

I am a very gullible person and I'm just not sure what to think, he could be goofing off or he could be dead serious. No pun intended. Any suggestions?

i agree...my friend also was like this but he really made it seem like it was serious, i mean the conversations we would have were shocking, i was scared he really might kill himself, but i was wrong...he really wanted attention, i realized this when he said "at least now people listen to me, and focus on me" right then i knew he only wanted attention....i hope your friend isn't serious...

you could try to find out whats bothering him, but i think it's just attention. but who knows, like ask him, what made him feel that way and stuff, and if he doesn't seem too serious with his threats, just tell a counselor or something to help him sort out his issues

you should probally try to talk to him into not doing it. Or tell someone who really cares for him.

First off, if this guy "wanted" to do suicide... then why did he tell you? Why couldn't he just do it?
Second off, He has a reputation for being attention whore...
Third off, I doubt he'll do suicide.. he's just going through a phase. Did he recently break up with someone?

I had the same thing happen to me, I was really depressed and a boy i liked came up and asked me "If you were going to do it how would you?" I didn't take him seriosly so i told him a way i knew and He did it. I regret it a lot if i were you I'd tell someone who could help. call a hotline i have a few numbers if you'd like them. bottome line If its not serious and you call, you'll laugh at it someday, if it is and you don't call anyone, you might never get the chance.

I don't agree with that. Suicidal people are definately selfish. They're ending their life to end their own troubles, only to create more for others. Is that being generous? .... Although the people that are "just saying dumb sh!t for attention" are definately annoying.

well i'd talk to him about it, and probably find out what is causing him to be suicidal. it's better to assume that he is really gonna do it then not take any action and regret it later.

give the person the attention he/she needs, that's what they need right now

well, even if he's not serious, you shouldn't think that he isn't going to.. because there's always that possibility that he is.

give them attention now. later, go slap them silly. they shouldn't commit sucide because it aint worth it.
