how to get this girl to stop smokin cause she depressed

you can tell someone to stop, but it is up to them to quit. and telling them you aren't going to be their friends is sort of superficial, at least i think so. make a compromise, have her not smoke around you, and seeing you said she is depressed and you are her friend (im assuming here) do things with her that will make her happy. go to the park, make your own play/musical, make soap together. be there for her!

IF YOU SMOKE, YOU'RE GOING TO GET CANCER AND DIE AND YOU WONT BE ABLE TO SMOKE EVER AGAIN!

Oh well, her lungs she screwing up so let her learn her lesson in about a couple of years.

ive know people whove smoked their entire lives, NEVER getting cancer and died from natural causes .. so yea. correlation doesn't necesrrily mean causation. meaning, because the amount of people havign cancer and who are smokers doesn't mean that it is the actual smoking that caused the cancer. there could be other variables that affected or influenced the cancer cells other than just tobacco.

That is true. But just say that to ermm. kinda scare herrr..
my mommy smokes. a lot. and for a long time. She hasn't had cancer yet or any sign.
But cancer will damage your lungs. it'll be harder to breathe and cause your whole body to probably go wrong. when one thing is wrong, the whole ermm system isn't working correctly, but still is working.

Keep her busy ! Go ice-skating , draw a picture, anything that will keep her mind out of the nasty sticks.

You cannot get anyone to stop doing something they don't want to stop. You can tell them, but they'll take it or leave it. Can't change a person.

I think u should tell an adult about it 'cause that's really the best way to stop her/him

just tell her straight up that you don't want to see her ruin her life like this. The most influential pressure comes from peer pressure, use it to your advantage

Tell her, "If you really love me, you would stop."

My friend always uses that on his girlfriend.

Uhh, also tell her how it could kill her and all that jazz.

Go with the truth.

tell her u care about her and u dont want to see her like that...tell her the facts about smoking and how it affects her body...

well saying "stop smoking right now!" won't rly get you anywhere unless they're brain is made of mush lol. but i know it took about 6 months for me to stop smokign and it took family members, friends, and realizes what i was doing to my skin to stop. these things take time no one person can stop it instantly you just gotta be there for her and maybe try to refocus her energty n somethign else but most of all its going to take HER WANTING TO QUIT. becuz you can say "stop smoking right now!" until you are blue in the face but it won't do you much good until SHE wants to quit. remember that =).

i've been in this situation before with my friend jill. she used to be a smoker. i guess one of the reasons was depression.

but my two friends and i helped her quit. i guess we all came at it from different angles, though.


my tactic was to be there to support her. i don't ever think you should stop being someone's friend because of something like that. i made it clear to her that i thought what she was doing is wrong and it's not only hurting her, but people around her and that she's too good for that sh!t and the only reason our friends are pressuring her is because we care. but i also made it clear that it was up to her. i told her that she was free to do whatever she wanted and no one could force her to stop but it wasn't right. so i left it up to her and gave her as much emotional and mental support as i could.

sam and becky had different ideas, though. they threatened not to be her friend anymore and i understood that. i think they would have made up eventually no matter what, and i think their tactic definatly helped her stop smoking, but i didn't think it was right. i understood their position, but i also wanted to be there for jill to help her through the fights she had with sam and becky as well as the quiting.


jill doesn't smoke anymore. i'd recomend trying the same with your friend.

tell her the health issues, and tell her how it makes you feel when she does smoke around you....you can help guide her but the decision to quit is AND WILL ALWAYS BE HERS.

Smoking doesn't help much when feeling depressed, it will just create more trouble ! Do something more positive, such as doing some exercise, chatting with friends... That's help a lot !
