Curved Text
// For Photoshop
// This tutorial requires basic knowledge of how to use the Pen Tool in Photoshop.

/ This tutorial was made in Photoshop CS2 and MAY not work on lower versions such as 5.0 or something. /

This tutorial also works with at least Illustrator CS, not too sure about lower versions -- Madame C

Have you ever wondered how to make curved text without having to warp the font ?
Well uh, yeah. This tutorial is for you. =)

Alright, say you have a part of an image where you want your text to be curved to.

My example:

The pen tool is your friend.

Take your pen tool, and in your Options Palette, press the icon for Paths. (thumnailed)
Click to enlarge

Now, use your Pen Tool to create Paths around the part where you want your text to go.

You do not need to close the path.

Now, take your Text tool in your Tools Palette.

And hover the arrow right on the path. Click on the path at the point where you want your text

to start.

Then, pick your font and start typing :O

When you're done, press Enter (on the numpad) and voila. =) CURVED TEXT !!!111

Note: The path is not visible in your final result. It is only visible when you click on

the layer with the text on it. If you click on other layers, it'll disappear.

"okay so here's my problem. I can make the line. and I can start typing, but only the first letter shows up. it may have something to do with the two points that show up after I click to type. this is very frustrating. btw, I'm using cs4"

Had the same problem and like you, figured it was the points. (Its because we are both just that smart... lol j/k) So, Here is how to fix it:

Do everything in the tutorial, then use the 'path selection tool' (black arrow by the 'text tool') and click-drag the points out as long as you want.

The left point controls how far left, the right controls how far right, and the center controls where you want the text area along the curve. Finally, if you click-drag them perpendicular to the curve it will change the texts orientation. In other words, on a curve that is horizontal, dragging them down would flip the text upside down.

Author, feel free to add this to your post.

PS: I am getting sick of having to create accounts on every site just to help people... darn you advertising spammers for ruining it for everyone!

Okay, it lets me type what I want but it doesn't show up on my graphic. I'm not sure what's going on....

Have you ever had the problem of the Text tool never recognizing the path? I don't know if my installation is corrupt or what, but I can never get the tool to "change" to indicate it "sees" the path, and the text will not go along the path.

Your path might be too small, or your font might be took large. Your text disappears if it's too long for the path.

Aw...I did everything and when I started typing, I got disappointed. I have Adobe Photoshop 7.0, not CS ;-;
