What do you do in debate??, .. just wondering |

I know that quiet a bit of people here are on their school debate team, and i am really curious about what events you guys do, well it's my first year, and i did almost everything.

I'm not on the Debate Team yet.. I don't think our junior high currently has one, so I'm not sure about what they debate on.
I'm guessing basically current events... but I could be wrong. =] |

im not in debate but i really want to be. too bad my school doesnt have that stuff. =( but my friend does it and shes a pro...lol i asked her once and she said you guys discuss like everything.

I'm not on a debate team, but I want to be on one. I love debating. I dont even think my school has a debate team though

you know, you can propose it, schools will let you have one because that's a really big club, when you do, you can be the president of it... so yeah

It's supposedly good for girls becuz it says things of woman's rights and many things like that. Many go in it to argue about what they think is right only if they have the evidence to back it up. It looks good onl college resumes...that's probably why they even go in there...and well you argue about anything really..

i was going to be on the team for my school but it is too much time. they spend whole saturdays debating and i don't have that kind of time.

I don't think we have debate club in our school. But mostly I debate everything. But I would love to be in debate club....butttttt I'm not that good at presentation or giving our speech. I'm good at debate forums here at createblog.com. I typed it down, not speak it loud.

 our school participates in the National Forensic League, or NFL - www.nflonline.org. So we discuss/debate the current topic, basically. Simple. :P I tried extemp once and hated it..lol. And our school is mainly focused around purely debate(CX and LD), with only about 5 or 6 people doing IE's, although I believe they are already qualed for state. oh and btw.. just a side note to everyone, PLEASE NEVER say "extempt" when talking about extemporaneous speaking, or I shall have to kill you. It's "EXTEMP." And if you really want a debate squad- make one!  Get involved- ask your friends, your principal, ask around for coaches. It would look really good on a college resume, if you helped found it! I bet there are many other people who would want to be in debate as well. Debate is really good for speaking skills, especially LD (where I live, anyway). It teaches you to think on your feet and have good sounding rhetoric. And it really developed the way I spoke and my clarity, since you have to communicate well to the judge. So don't let that stop you, because the point of debate is to teach you how to debate well- you don't have to automatically know how the minute you step into your first round! |

i heard debate was fun, they had a comp last saturday or was it friday night.... u have to be pretty good and smart to be on there and study for the debates.. its some hard work or i hear.

yeah our school doesn't have an actual debate team but last year in my christian ed. class (i go to a catholic school) we had a lot of debates...if i can remember properly, some of the topics were the legalization of marijuana, capital punishment, and the influence of the media.

i used to do congress and was jv, then i dropped out...i did a lil foreign extempt and loved impromptus muahaha, i bsed so much in there though...comps were fun too, this one time i stayed over at fullerten and walked around, found an internet cafe and played cs for a lil while
