yup, it does look like you didn't spend much time on it since it's pretty default. I don't like the color choices of light yellow, light purple, gray and light blue... you should maybe add a bg or something... the welcoming side is a little dull, kind of plain. The banner is good if you are going for simplicity.

Its okay, pretty simple and really default. Nice job on it though. Try adding a differnt banner? Or a more colorful background?
