Has racism ever had an effect on you?
Not just being called racist slurs, but actually being limited in some way because of race.

Something like this happend to my parents a few years ago.

I know my parents went to some foriegn store our of the U.S. (Rome I think it was) and stood in line to buy some things. When it was my parent's turn, the cashier ignored then but, continued serving people that were even behind my parents. My parents didn't get helped until my father complained. It was supposedly because my parents are Filipino.

I have no problem with any other race then mine..
But I do think twice.. If im walking down the street in the middle of the night there there were two roads to go down and one had some "punk" black dude on one road.. and there was a plain white dude down the other I think I would go down the white person's road.. I hope that doesen't make me racist.. Like I said I have no problem with black people. >.<

I'm half black, 1/4 chinese and 1/4 italian. My whole life is a mess of racism. I've always been too white for the black people and too black for the white people. I never quite fit in because people assumed by my skin and hair that I was something I wasnt. Damn them all. Even my family is that way. My white cousin wasnt allowed to date black guys, but its like hello, I was made because of a black person. Its so wrong. I wish I wasnt stuck in the middle.

Racism effects everyone, I think.
My school is made up of 96% of white people so it's not like I know tons of people that arn't white.
(( Don't get me wrong though, I have cousins that are mixed, along with my best friend.))

I understand about the whole choosing sides of the road thing from above. I would probably choose the white side too just because it's my race and I'm growing up used to it that way. It's a very tough and sensitive topic for many people.

Every time I invite my African-American friends over (they're sisters), their mom won't let them because I'm white. mellow.gif

I remember this one time, about a year and a half ago, my family and I went to Applebee's or some place like that, and waited for the person to get us a table.

Well, we were waiting and waiting, and when it was our turn, the waitress completely ignored us and instead, walked around my family, and seated a family of white people who were waiting behind us, right in front of our eyes. We were all upset, but we didn't say much until we noticed that another Filipino family was waiting for a long time too.

My dad went over to talk to them to see how long they've been waiting for and why. Apparently, the same thing happened to them. So my dad stepped up to this waitress and confronted her, which resulted in talking with the manager, and getting her into trouble.

Good thing though: My family and the other Filipino family got free dinners. _smile.gif

In a way.
When I was at Abercrombie with my dad a few years ago, the girl at the cashier asked for our zip code, and my dad pronounced the zeros as 'yeros'. She started giggling and then I stared at her and she ceased.
It's sad having heavily-accented parents. mellow.gif

I know all about it. My a-hole Criminal Justice teacher is racist. He is always trying to make me fail and get kicked out of school. I'm the only black male in ALL his classes.

F***ing a-hole _dry.gif

I've never been discriminated against for my race, but racism definitely has had an effect on my life. Everyone's been affected one way or another.

Well I've always lived in a mixed environment, so I don't run into racism that often. I know it does exist here, but not something I see a lot.

I have no problem with racists, i like any type of race i just dont like some people outa some races, doesnt mean that the whole race is bad tho. like i got some colored kid always going "are calling me names because im black" and thats annoying because im really not.

Word...
I get called "chink" all the time. It's awfully annoying.
It's because racist white people have hard time telling the difference between different Asian nationalities. Which has also helped created the Asian stereotype: "All you Asians look the same."
