I think you should totally leave it unmoderated. That way, you'll get more people to post stuff. happy.gif

^People post enough, and they post enough crap. I think that mods should be a tad more leinient but people should still search. If the topic they want to post is in the first few pages, then bring it back. If it is 100 pages back and the last reply was in 2003, then fine, make a new topic. Or, even merge!

*cough* I still don't think people know how to use the button!! http://www.createblog.com/forums/index.php...82875&hl=search

seriously, i think that's bull considering the amount of threads being closed because there was a thread made from 2004 that is ALMOST the same topic.

I agree with you on this one. Yay for merging topics! I remember in the past when I did that a lot. It does take quite a while, but it's definitely better than closing. Eeek, all the merging. ph34r.gif

It wouldn't be a half bad idea. I've had numerous topics that abide by the rules closed because "it doesn't fit the context" or some other bs. It sounds like it could work Jusun.

The weird thing about cB is that threads don't often go off-topic, at least not in interesting directions. Sure, you sometimes have a few cliques making inside jokes or having personal conversations, but I feel like threads never really have "discussion". Everyone just reads the first post, responds, then hardly return to the thread. Late posters rarely build on the statements and thoughts of other posters. The "discussion" hardly extends beyond the initial post.

I say it's "weird" because in other forums, people usually revisit threads fairly often and go off on "tangents" based on what other posters have said. I fully agree with taking a hands-off approach to managing threads on cB, but it would be best if people would actually read an entire thread and then make posts based on other posts that extend and evolve the conversation, rather than just answering the initial post.

But that's just my $0.02.

It used to. In that sense, I think this could work out well, since there was a phase where the mods would bitch about that happening. I'd like for that to happen as well. I mean, maybe too many of our members are just too young and ignorant to relate one thing to another in a way that's actually mildly stimulating? I don't know, but I see your point.

Just my 2 cents as well, but I do know a fair ammount of people as I've read that don't ever read past the first post like you stated, and it sorta lets the topic go offtopic and back to the first post. Like I Said, just my 2 cents.

I don't mean to complain or anything...but I don't really think anything changed at all. Topics are still closed because it's "pointless" or full of spam. Or even one where a topic was closed because of a topic from August 2004...

Hmm?

True, but some topics contain enough posts that it would take a good 20-30 min to read all the posts. I, myself, do not enjoy reading for that long just so I can post one thing.

Perhaps if a topic were meant to be discussed, there could be a (Discussion Topic) in the title.

Haha, I remember that forum. First forum I ever joined! Dang. Unmoterated forum (random thoughts) was more fun as well, imo. Being able to express freely (of course, there is going to an extent), without having to worry about your thread getting thread made it good!

If you're not willing to really participate in the discussion, why bother posting?

The thing people need to remember is that discussions often diverge from the initial post. If you want to keep up with the discussion, you have to read the whole thing. However, if people don't really want to discuss anything (they just want to post and get it over with), I don't see why people complain so much about mods shutting down duplicate topics.

also, with all of this being said, does that mean that clubs and the hate thread can return?
