OK ive been told TO many times by NON swimmers that swimming is NOT a sport....im sorry but i dont think sombody can get in a pool and do 2 full laps in under a min (im not even there yet...just gotta lose a few more seconds) but it works down to the smallest muscle in your body....not only is it PHYSICAL its MENTAL...you gotta no when to turn how many srokes to take and just everything...you gotta have upper and lower body strength...so im sorry but it is a sport and its one of the best sports there is.... blink.gif

at my school, swimming is considered a sport because you get athletic credit for taking it. and you also have to try out for the team so it must be inportant. =/

i have always considered swimming a sport. i mean, it is in the olympics. wacko.gif

swimming is definitely a sport..it involves so much hard work and dedication, I don't think non swimmers understand that. and yes, it's in the olympics, but I don't think that matters very much.

Judt b/c its in the olympics doesn't mean its a sport. Its a lot harder then ppl think it is. Just b/c you can swim in a pool doesn't mean you can SWIM. Then you ahve to think about the muscles and how much it hurt to kick your feet and move your arm for about 10 hrs a day. And then having to learn all those swimming moves and then constantly having to get faster and tone up more so hard

Hell yeah It's a sport. A lot of people say swimming and water polo aren't sports, but you get a way better work out from them than football or basketball.

Yeah it's a sport. I really wish I could swim everyday, probably one of the only athletic things I enjoy. But my parents are being a little overprotective and think that I'll cramp up, drown, and die. Or I'll catch a cold. Dammit.
