Popular culture has a way of coining new terms, inventing new stereotypes and making something that isn't a big deal an exaggerated trend. Normally, we youths witness a resurgence/emergence of subcultures like; emo, punk, hiphop, skater, preppy vintage, emo thrift vintage, hiphop skater emo, and so on. These fads are always brought to the attention of mainstream youth culture via mTV and other large corporate pimps that prey on the impressionable minds of the youth. But, I bring to you, the label, the stereotype, the stigma that has me up in arms; the title of 'metrosexual.'

Since when was it a bad thing for a guy to wear nice clothes? Better yet, since when was it a bad thing for us to have a sense of style? Is this right reserved for people only of the homosexual persuasion? If so, since when? I'm having a hard time comprehending the logic of calling a straight guy 'metrosexual,' just because he has better taste than the next. The last time I checked, there wasn't label attached to a girl who dressed too girly? Oh, wait, my bad, people label them sluts. Ok, so 'metrosexuality' isn't as bad as being labelled a whore, but whats with the fascination?

First, let me explain to what a 'metrosexual' IS by common standard. For a straight male to breach the levels of 'metrosexuality' he must: dress well and be overdressed for most occasions, be utterly vain and self-centered, be somewhat of an a-hole behind the niceguy facade and act, as many have put it, 'gay.' now this, obviously, is a bit extreme and its not what most of us well-dressed, artisitic, well-rounded STRAIGHT guys are. Still, the second you were something of designer fashion, the label is slapped on your forehead.

Now without further ado, I'll break down in lamens what a 'metrosexual' IS NOT by the common sense standard. A metrosexual is not a guy who dresses well and has fine tastes, thats simply a man with style. Nor is a 'metrosexual' one who struggles with vanity and self-centerednes; thats just a pompous jackass. How could a metrosexual be anything but an a-hole if he's an a-hole? Because, I assure you, it doesn't matter how you dress or how you act; you're still an a-hole. Acting 'gay' is a term I don't quite understand anymore because its used so loosely. To me, acting gay is being a homosexual and if you're a homosexual; thats just what you are.

So, this is my outcry to all of you. Stop this labelling. End this term metrosexual because all it is is another stereotype for our society. And as you may have noticed, we're still trying to put an end to the ones from years past.

~The Don

It was this one guy at I worked with that dressed like that. He would get all the women and still get hated by the guys. All the guys were like hes gay. Since me and him are cool I highly doubt hes gay.

Gay is a sexual preference, not a definition of personality. He's eccentric and could act a bit feminine. Nonetheless, my annoyance with this term stands firm.

Hmmm, sounds like a heated debate might go on shifty.gif .

Being "gay" has become somewhat popular as well. And in the past, if you were dressed nicely, you were labeled "gay". Back then, I think all the lastest fad was like, what? "Gangster" clothes?

Its just a fad that will just die away.... eventually.

Another quick observation I made today was that a lot of guys are overwhelmingly jealous that they aren't comfortable enough to wear clothes from Express and that they don't want to change the way they already dress to look that nice. Instead of giving a guy props, they're quick to sip the haterade.

hm.. i agree with ur point. i wear nice clothes yet im labeled as "gay" but im not, i ahve a girlfriend, we kiss all the time, and i dont act the least bit feminim. i have alot of friends that are girls but the thing is.. guys sterotype others more then girls. usually guys who sterotype others (in my preferance) are usually jealous of the other and wish to make the better one feel worse.... bah i confused my self.l.

in my own opinion, i don't think ''metrosexual'' is for gays. Metros are just people addicted and care about what they look like, ... like they act like gay guys, but they have no interest in guys, they like woman.

So you're defining the stereotype in which this thread is trying to get rid of by adding to it?

Yes, because in reality, there's no such thing as a metrosexual. Re-read what I wrote.

Metrosexual guys are just hot. It doesn't mean they're gay or assholes; I hate it when people say that.

Thank you!
My best friend are what people call "metrosexuals" and I think that it is stupid for people to call them gay just because they care about what they look like. I dont' like labeling of any kind, and yeah, some homosexual people dress really well, but so to straight people. And vise versa with not dressing well..
