i have a blue mini one.
and why would the put the record industry away? the ipod is to hold the songs from the record. they make the record, and then apple/itunes gets permission to put it onto itunes for people to purchase.........right? ![]() |

I have a green mini. Wish I got the main ipod, not mini.
I think she means that instead of buying the artist's records, people go to iTunes and just download the songs. |

^ isn't that kind of a duh? why would the record industry let people download songs if they weren't making money off it
![]() i got a 20gb ipod when they first came out, so i've had mine for 2+ years. there are numerous topics in technology about this (unless it's specifically supposed to be about ipods and their effect on the recording industry)... |

No isnt it funny . like ipods enforce not to dl songs illegally but im sure they know that people only buy them because they dl songs for free. like its contradicting themselves.

Please be more specific on exactly what this topic is about. Like William said (I believe it was him...) there are multiple topics on iPods already so if this is like the rest of them, it needs to be closed. So please specify what we're supposed to be discussing. Anyways, I love iPods. I have a 40GB and I adore it. And personally I don't think it's iPods that necessarily put the record industry away. It's more of just illegally downloading programs like Kazaa and Limewire and such that are. In fact, if anything, iPods encourage record sales because they encourage the consumer to purchase their music on iTunes.

Granted her actual THREAD didn't really related to her subject.. " iPods, putting the record industry away?" Anyway, for the person that said that itunes is still giving the bands profit. Artists make barely any money from their record sales. I've read alot about it; Record companies keep so much of their artist's profits it's rediculous. I don't have an ipod, but I'm not going to be an idiot and use itunes to pay for music when there's obviously others way to go about getting the mp3s. |

If a person legally purchases all of their music from a pay service like iTunes, then the artists/recodrd companies make money. It is actually chepaer to buy most albums off of iTunes because they don't cost as much as they do in a record store. However, if you're like me and u can't really afford to purchase music off iTunes all of the time, you probably download a lot. And if you have iTunes and are even the slightest bit crafty, you've probably figured out how to upload illegal mp3s to iTunes. There's also a nifty import feature on iTunes where you can upload your own cds, which I use quite often to back up my music collection as I add to it....
anyway, I don't think iTunes is going to ruin the music industry. If anything, it's probably helping it to stay alive and thriving. |

Yeah, I have a theory that in 2 years time, I will be able to buy an ipod for under 20 quid as there are so many out there that every other person has got one, even though the rio karma is so much better...

example: the iPod Shuffle is only $99 bucks because you would have to purchase iTunes, and that's how they make their profit.

QUOTE(uLoVeMikeRoch @ Apr 22 2005, 2:10 PM) ohmigawh, you're totally right! i mean, i only bought mine a few months after they came out, so i've had it for about two and a half years, and it still works perfectly. they totally break within a few months of buying them!!! anyways, i don't think that itunes or filesharing is what's making record sales go down- it's declining quality in mainstream music. |

That was gay, you are gay. You're sarcasm is ineffective here. Anyway, i personally think that itunes and napster isnt such a good way to get music. So you pay for it and you download it, what happenens if its get erased or your computer gets a problem? I personally rather get the cd and rip the files to my computer. But it's still a very effective way to make money for the music industry. |

all of apples ads are defiantly awesome.
i have a 20 gb g.4 ipod. i thought to myself, 1,000 songs isn't enough for me, so the next highest is the 20 gb. so i bought that. then here comes the ipod mini g.2. with 6 gb, which is like, perfect. i wish i had one green one. |

i love the ads- it defines an ipod user.
defined by the ipod, an individual no longer. at least, the ones who get ipods because they're cool, and have like 15 songs on a 20GB ipod. at first i thought- ipod, hmm sounds good. then i thought, hmm. i don't have that much music. then i thought, wait... i DO have music, just no 20gbs, so i thought mini, then i looked at the price and lo and behold, for 30 bucks cheaper (at 215) was the color iriver (20gbs). and it was so. (actually not... but sounds good, right? i actualy researched and found that the h320 was the best one out there for me. ) |

I have a blue mini iPod, and I don't think it is killing the record companies. I think the ease of illegal d/ling is.

illegal downloading isn't killing record companies.
it allows listeners to sample songs before they buy. and sample them whereever, whenever, at full lenght. finding an entire CD in high quality MP3 or OGG is hard. i don't see why it's killing anything. |

^ agreed. ever since i started downloading i've been able to find more bands, and have started buying a lot more cds.
QUOTE(uLoVeMikeRoch @ Apr 22 2005, 5:04 PM) i actually thought it was damn effective. did you miss my point? they don't break within months, or even years for that matter. that was an extremely ignorant statement for you to make. you didn't include any facts, sources, or personal experiences to back it up. and resorting to calling me gay..? i find that pathetic. edit one: oh, and for rachel, it's *your. using the contraction you're means "you are" of course, and "you are sarcasm" makes no sense at all. edit two: QUOTE(uLoVeMikeRoch @ Apr 22 2005, 5:04 PM) So you pay for it and you download it, what happenens if its get erased or your computer gets a problem? I personally rather get the cd and rip the files to my computer. i'm not trying to debate with you or piss you off with this edit, but wouldn't most people also put the music on their mp3 player? i don't think it's very likely for your computer AND your mp3 player to crash at the same time, but i do see your point. i don't buy from the itunes store because cds only cost a few dollars more, and you get something tangible without restrictions. liner notes are kind of nice too. |
