I'm not sure of this belongs here, and if not I'm sorry! blush.gif but does anyone know why you can't delete posts? I was on a board with the same format as this, almost exactly, and you could delete posts. So why can't you here?

I agree. I really do believe we all should be able to delete our own posts! It would probably help on the double posting issue, esp. when cB freaks out and posts 3 in a row =)

the ability to delete post would be a useful feature as well as aid in the fight against double/triple post

well..mods can. but why would you delete it..if you can edit it? I don't know why you can't delete your own posts, but does it really matter if you have the edit button? =]

well if someone who double posted or triple posted could delete their own post...then that would add up to a lot of saved bandwith so less "Connection" errors

It's a very good thing you aren't allowed to delete your posts. It would CREATE chaos.

If you could delete your posts:

Good:
1. You can destroy your double posts.

Bad:
1. You can wreak havoc on the cB timeline. Suppose there is a chain of posts, and your post is right smack in the middle. If you deleted it, the thread would be very confusing (in cases) to the reader.

2. Like what Fae said above, it's to keep you from taking back what you said.

3. Mods are discouraged to delete posts, because it deletes the evidence. It goes the same for members.

All in all, it is better that you can't delete.

Be VERY VERY happy that you can EDIT! I have been in forums where u can't edit, and it SUCKS!

But doesn't cB have some sort of backup, or record of all the posts, so they can see the evidence, deleted or not, whenever they want to?

also about why you would delete it. If you decide your post is stupid and you want to delete it since it was stupid, you can't. And if you are the thread starter and people have posted after you, you can't just change it to *edited* which is what some people do in the middle of threads. Plus liek accidental spam. Or if you want to add two of your posts into one, you can't because then your first post is just blank, and it is spam

but once you edit it, it leaves a physical and a command trail to keep as evidence.

So you say "f**k YOU JEFF!!" and edit it, I'LL KNOW!!! grr!

(actually I won't so dont try it)

Ok the real goodthing about edit is that for editing you have to think up of something else to say, while deleting it is just deleting and you dont have to think of another post to type. Get it? It consumes brainpower and most people are too lazy to edit their stuff. Think how many times people would use the 1-click-solves-all 'delete button'.

Yeah but that's not why some people delete posts. I mean if they like made a typo or something they wanna fix and they don't preview it they can just edit it. But if we say something really mean or in my case really stupid, it would be a lot easier to just delete the post. But I can totally understand why we can't, it would cause a ton of problems!

I've been to other forums... and it's pretty confusing if someone deletes a post. So the edit button should be good enough. I think the "last edit by..." line should be default though. Sometimes normal members can't tell if that member has edited his/her post or not.

What if they double post? Would they just edit it to say "Oops, double post"? That could be miscontrued as spam.
