Welcome to the Createblog Writing Contest!!
If you are interested in writing or trying something new, then this is the place to be. There will be 2 writing contests taking place at the same time, (1) A Creative Writing Contest & (2) Mini-Contest (technical writing)YOU CAN SUMBIT TO BOTH CONTESTS AT THE SAME TIME

(1)CREATIVE WRITING CONTEST

Background: This contest will give you the freedom to write in your own style about a selected subject. (If you want more of a challenge please go to the “mini contest”). This will be judged mainly on your creativity. The genres will range and probably will seem a little unorthodox at times, but the style is entirely up to you.
(Although, you will be asked to write poems, short stories, etc...The thing is when you write your “poem”, it doesn’t have to rhyme, or it can rhyme...You can express yourself as you normally would when submitting your own poetry here in other threads.)

Winners: There will be a first place winner and also an honorable mention. The first place winner is the person with the most votes. The Honorable mention will probably be the runner up. Remember this contest is centered on creativity and being unique. Best advice I can give you is just be yourself and write how you usually would. (The entries I’ve seen around the createblog writing forum are fantastic! I know you guys will do a great job ) Winners will be placed in the “CB Writers Hall Of Fame” and receive a “Winners” button for their signature.

*Remember, if this contest isn’t your “forte” then you can always join the mini-contest, or wait for the next round since it will be different.

Contest number (1)= The first writing contest is going to be very simple.
The theme will be “Opening Lines”.
Every great book or poem has the first sentence intriguing and captivating. I want you to write a first line or opening of a story.

* Here are some examples from some great stories:

“Call me Ishmael” - (Moby d**k by Herman Melville)

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.” -(A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens)

“It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen”-(1984 by George Orwell)

“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat; It was a hobbit hole, and that means comfort.” (The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien)

^As you can see these are all great openings for some great books. It doesn’t have to be one sentence, It can be a short paragraph (3 lines) at the most. But It has to be a complete thought, don’t just think of something random, really think about this!

Now don’t fret, future contests will have you writing poems, short stories, etc....I think this is just a good opener to let the creative juices flow, and see how people will do :)

RULES ON THIS CONTEST
(1) NO JOCKING
(2)The Deadline is on November 5th All entries must be turned in
(3)Please, all entries for this contest should be no longer then 3 sentences.
(4)Please PM all entries to either KissMe2408 or Retrogressive
(5)When you are submitting please write in the title of the PM “Creative Contest”
(6)If you are interested in participating, please comment in this thread
(7)If your poem isn’t following the rules or theme then it will be disqualified.
(8)Just so you know, Your name will not be submitted with the poem when voting comes around. This is so we rule out the whole popularity thing, we’re strictly going for the best work. Of course if you win, then your name goes on it :)
(9)Writers will be able to vote when voting comes around

(2)MINI-WRITING CONTEST

Background: For now we will call this a “mini” contest, since the “creative” contest is the main one. This contest is aimed more towards “technical” writing. You will be asked to write in a certain style as well as a selected subject. As you can see this will be a little bit harder, but don’t let that stop you Each contest will have a different genre and style. So if this week isn’t your “forte” then wait for the next competition, but while your at it, give it a shot and try something new :) if not, then just wait and be the judge

Winners: There will also be a first place winner and an honorable mention. The first place winner will be the person with the most votes, and honorable mention will be the runner up. It is important to be creative in this contest, but also to remain true to the style you are writing in. Winners will be placed in the “CB Writers Hall Of Fame” and receive a Winners button for their signature.

For contest number (1) =This contest will also be starting small.
The Theme of this contest will be, “Growth”
The style of this contest will be in the form of a “ couplet ”

*A couplet is a pair of lines of poetry that are usually rhymed, to read more about how to write a couplet go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Couplet

*If you would like to write a distich, then go ahead! A distich is just 2 lines standing as one poem. So you would only have to rhyme 2 lines and submit.

Here is an example of a couplet
This Poem is titled “What If” written by the wonderful author Shel Silverstein

“Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the swimming pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?”

*Please remember no more then 10 lines, I want to keep this one fairly simple. Remember 2 lines is the minimum too!

RULES ON THIS CONTEST
(1) NO JOCKING
(2)Deadline is November 5th, please have all the entries turned in no later then that day
(3) Please, no longer then 10 lines
(4) PM all entries to KissMe2408 or Retrogressive
(5)When you are submitting please write in the title of the PM “Mini Contest”
(6)Your couplet must have a title
(7)You can keep it as simple as 2 lines if you want, but remember the limit is 10.
(8)If you are interested please comment in this thread
(9)If your entry doesnt follow the rules it will be disqualified.

VOTING: Everyone WILL have a chance to vote, including the writers. Voting will run much like the “caption contest” is voted for. There will be a hall of fame and there will be a voting thread that goes up with each contestants work numbered, and you post what number you think is best.

^Yes people can submit entries to both contests at the same time.

and yah it should be a different entry for each contest, since the rules and process is different in both
