I know there's no real, exact answer to the question but it makes me wonder. How early/far into a relationship do you say "I love you" to the person you're with?
You always hear of people saying "Oh, it's only been a week, they're not in love." But who are they to judge what others feel? |

well i know this girl and we have never dated and we've been really close friends for what will be a year in a month or two but we like each other, and we say it 24/7 to each other, so it depends if the persons ok with it, but id say about a month and a half

To me, you can't truly love someone unless you've been through hardships that shaped out your relationship and made you stronger. Before you guys date, it most likely hasn't gotten to the point you'd mean the words, but you most likely have a strong like for them. I'd say about 2-5 months in a relationship where you'd know that if your partner said that they loved you, they would mean it. If you're in a relationship with someone for one week, how do you know for sure that they mean it? They haven't been together long enough to have such strong feelings for one another.

my bf first told me he loved me maybe 2 months into the relationship. it startled me and took me almost 24 hours to say it back o_0 even then so yes i cared about him but it took me at least 4 months to feel true love...and back the fraise "i love you" with truth.

It really depends on the situation I think. Me and my current boyfriend said it early on during our 'official' relationship, but stuff was going on 'unofficially' beforehand so yeah.

Well before we went out, I used to say "<3 you" and "wuv/luv you" and eventually "love you" to my boyfriend.
After we became official...I believe it took a day? For him to say it XD We were very close friends before we got together...so I knew it wasn't fake. |

It does depend, although I think you should say 'I love you' only when you really feel you know the person you're saying it to (and you do!).
My boyfriend crushed on me for years before I started dating him, so for him saying 'I love you' within the first few weeks seemed like finally getting to that place after years. For me, when I realised I loved him (and do even more so with each passing day) I told him so. Four months, ish? |

i think that all in all, it depends on the person and//or people "in love." everyone is different && everyone will feel differently at different times. i'd say the "new generation" is a generation that "falls in love" what seems like "earlier in the relationship" to others. if you feel it, you feel it, if you dont, you dont. my boyfriend and i told each other we loved each other 2 months into the relationship && honestly..i think it was only said because of the situation at hand. if that situation didnt happen [no regrets] i think we would have waited another month or so. an ex and i said it about 2-3 weeks into our relationship. my parents were married 6 months after they started dating..when they said "i love you" i dont know..but my point is..like i said in the beginning..it depends on the person/people who are "in love." no one can tell another how to feel or not feel. it just..is.

I was wondering how long it takes to tell your significant other "I love you" and you actually mean it?

well, that has already happened, but she is still a little bewildered and confused about her feelings when it comes to saying "I love you" because she wants some more time and she wants it to really mean something when she says it.

or maybe she's cheating on you, and actually doesn't love you at all? she probably loves someone else but doesnt want to hurt your feelings.

she's not cheating on me..she just wants the word to mean something when she tells me. I respect that, but she doesn't want to tell me "I love you" a million times cuz then it will be meaningless.

It's good that your girlfriend knows not to make the phrase meaningless. People say it too early or too often when they don't really mean it. It's better for her to say it if/when she's sincere than for her to say it just because you want to be reassured that she cares about you. Let it happen naturally.

I can't say unless I mean it. Even in past relationships, when it gets to that point where I'm fed up, I won't say it because I don't feel as though I truly mean it. Now, in my current relationship, I get a "warm and fuzzy" every time I think about saying it to her.

They say that Love knows no time but I agree with the fact that you can't possibly love someone over the course of a week. (rarely...) People are different so theres never an average time to say it.
