Oh... woah. I'm 18 years old, living in the south... and I never knew that. I've actually never been called one before, or really ever heard anyone call someone that in a non joking way. mellow.gif

I cant believe I never knew that. I feel really stupid now.

Bleh. It's not as if you were missing out on anything. At first, I thought it meant biscuits, you know, those cracker biscuits. When you take a bite, they crack. Gosh, I'm hungry.

Its simple, white politicians created the term to be politically correct. That way they cannot be accused of being racist in this sensitive world.

I just say black..

The other way is too long.
And I feel like a politician.

When people are talking about white people, they say white not caucasian, most of the time.

Heck, when people turn purple they will have to be get Purpsldfklsd.
Or else we will be racist

african americans are called just that because "black" is neither a race nor an ethnicity, it's a color. and we all know what the color black looks like, and from what i know no one was born this color (no matter how dark they are). african americans wanted a race like asians, hispanics, britons, italians, and russians have...i dont mind being called african american...i think it includes most of my history

white people have always been called white. but african americans have not always been called black. therefore, why would white people find being called "white" offensive, it it's what they've always been?

if african americans wanted a "race" like britons, italians, and russians, they would be called americans. those are countries, i don't see those as races

so what do u call italians if you just see it as a country? people from new york are called new yorkers, it is supposed to give a sense of origin. can you define what a race is, because apparently i do not know...according to your definition that is. the last time i checked "black" is not a race/ethnicity/point of origin for any human

im from new york but "new yorker" isn't my race
if we did it that way there would be a whole lot of races

when ur answering the question what is ur race how many times do u see ur country listed as an option?

u see African American
Caucasian
ect

thats what i think of when i think of race anyway

A lot of times people are called by where their heritage lies. I call myself German, but I'm not from Germany. I'm a proud American. Some races are called by their color and some are called by where they're from... it's just the way society is. I mean, white and black people could be called worse things.

well if italians are a race of their own then wouldn't all countries be a race of their own?

italian is just too specific
race is more physical characteristics than anything (to me)
ur going to classify me as black because im black, regardless of where im from

i don't personally see race as where ur from
if someone is white ur going to call them Caucasian
they could be from a lot of different places though

I don't see why people still bitch and moan over this kind of thing. I guess it's because people get crazy ideas and assume that because they're being called asian, black, white w/e that they're being stereotyped and judged for the worst. If only they would realize that making a scene over it only makes them look worse.

I have been working with some "African American" ppl and for sure none of em said anything or even gimme any looks after i've called em black or nigga, i guess its all about the person itself and their way of thinking. In fact its pretty much senseless calling someone black and em getting angry... because not everyone refers to race, maybe they just refer to the color of their skin and that's about it.

Anyway to me it doesn't matter where they are from, nor what skin color may have, cuz in the end there is only one Race, the Human Race, not black, not white, not yellow nor w/e.

SoEffinMajor -- Races have to do with ethnicities, like the way you look. Since countries like America and England don't have a defined "look" (because they have so many different ethnicities), "American" and "English" cannot be considered an ethnicity. Caucasian is a race...American is a nationality, aligning yourself to one country. If an Italian moves to France, their ethnicity is still Italian, but their nationality is French. Get it?

i dont like being called black because, for me, it's like a nice way of saying colored person. and colored was a nice way of saying negro. and negro was a nice way of saying coon/monkey/the N word, whatever else. i do not find african american as offensive as black...and i don't think my desire to be called african american is offensive to anyone
