Ooooh, a sexual health topic.

I'm hoping all of you are familiar with contraception and birth control and the importance of using protection when engaging in sexual activity. Methods include abstinence, the use of condoms, diaphragm, spermicide, birth control pills, patch, depo provera shot, withdrawal AKA the pull-out method (which is not very effective and I highly advice against) IUD, the morning after pill (which should not be used as a primary form of birth control but only for emergency purposes) etc. All methods are used to prevent unwanted pregnancy but only the condom or abstinence can prevent the transmittal of STDs.

Anyway, which is your primary method of contraception and birth control? Do you have anything to share about your experience with your chosen method?

The reason I ask is because I am looking to get on either the pill, the patch or the shot but I'm concerned about the side effects, inconveniences, and cost.

Oh, and my chosen method of protection is using condoms and occasionally VCF (Vaginal Contraceptive Film). I'm sure you guys are already familiar with how condoms work. As for VCF, my experience with it has been somewhat frustrating and frightening. I've had difficulty putting it in correctly and I fear that it may not be protecting well.

Condoms...the plastic thing was like glued and I couldn't get it open...neither could she. We looked for scissors for like 10 minutes. By that time, we just gave up and the night ended just like that.

I use the depo provera shot. It works pretty well, and the only side effect I have experienced is a bit of lightheadedness (is that a word?) right after the shot. Otherwise it's perfectly fine.

The EC pill. Oh god I had an interesting experience with that. It's not technically abortion because the main goal of the pill is to flush everything out before the egg can implant itselft. it made me sick for a little over a week. I couldn't get out of bed and i lost about 15 pounds and a lot of hair. I do not reccomend it to anyone unless it is an extreme emergency. And the EC pill is only effective up to 72 hours after sex.

Would that contraceptive be the pill more commonly known as "the morning after" pill? ermm.gif

Thought it might be worth mentioning that the birth control patch has been linked to higher rates of death recently.

Vagina Contraceptive Film

Its like a thin sheet in the shape of a square that you fold into quarters and place deep withing your vagina. It dissolves slightly into some spermicide and unfolds into a thin layer blocking the opening. You leave it in there even after you done. It'll eventually fully dissolve.

Oooooooh sex ed topic!! *gasp*

VCF sounds hard to use, i'd be really afraid it wasn't working. Female condoms are also supposed to be pretty hard to use, and if you don't put it in right you're screwed....and by that I mean you're not only screwed, you might has a baby or an STD as a little souvenire. My friend uses the Depo Provera shot, and she seems fine, no real big side effects or anything, but things like that are different for everyone.

Wow. That pills is also good for weight lost and hairless people. It has bad side effects also.

Someone would probably do this:
*quickly buys more before it runs out*

Hopefully they dont died after they are out of it.

i'm ridiculously well informed when it comes to birth control now, thanks to online health, but that one wasn't on my surprisingly thorough list. fascinating.

I use birth control. It seems the easiest to use. Just a little pill.

And VCF..? I've never even heard of that.

I wouldn't recomment the patch... I guess it beats taking a pill every single day or sticking the ring up your vagina laugh.gif but... it has a lot more hormones than are necessary. Personally, it made me dryer (which isn't good while you're having sex and you need to be lubricated huh.gif) And, when he would ejaculate in me, it would start burning! So yeah. No more patch.

I haven't gotten on anything else, so I'm pretty much taking my changes and using the pull-out method.

Generally you get them from your doctor.
