Ok I dont know if any of you have even read the Book of Revelations which is sometimes called the Apocalypse of John.It contains an account of the author, thought by many to be John or John of Patmos, who saw a vision describing future events at the end of the world—involving the final rebellion by Satan at Armageddon, God's final defeat of Satan, and the restoration of peace to the world. I believe it is just the Imagination of a man who was dying and using hallucinogetic drugs and It is ridiculous to even follow the "events" of this bombastic text! stubborn.gif

I think that the goal of this thread is to debate that point.

I believe in the bible so yes, I believe its true. And some of the signs that are mentined as a precurser to the apocalypse are happening today. But I guess some people wont believe until the apocalypse actually happens.

Maybe not as bad as it is depicted.

Jesus will come again and make the final judgement of everyone and then there will be peace.

It's like they said

We'll never know til the end.

"And noone but God sh'all know when the end sh'all come" (rough quote)That one book, that one chapter with that one verse.

The bible is a book of lies people wrote so billions of people could have the same imaginary friend and be brainwashed into believing something that is false. The book of revelations is just some lie made to scare people. That is my opinion

usually when we debate, we use concrete evidence to back up our opinions, rather than spout mindless nonsense.

Mushrooms.

John of Patmos lived on an island--Patmos, to be specific--that is known for having lots of wild mushrooms which have, of course, powerful hallucinogenic properties. Some scholars belief John ate these mushrooms while exiled on the island.

So, mipadi, you are saying that John was HIGH when he wrote revelations? Wow. That's a new one.

Some scholars have theorized that hallucinogenic mushrooms may have had a hand in his visions and subsequent writings, yes. Given the nature of his writings, it's not that hard to fathom.

Are you suggesting that all of the writers of the gospel were lit when they wrote their accounts? Because they sure came out similar, didn't they?

No, I'm not. I'm suggesting what a number of scholars have hypothesized:
  1. Patmos is notable for its wild mushrooms which have hallucinogenic properties.
  2. John spent a lot of time on Patmos--he was in exile.
  3. John undoubtedly consumed food while on Patmos.
  4. Mushrooms are edible, so it is not a stretch to suggest John ate some.
  5. John's visions of the apocalypse, and his descriptions of such, are consistent with visions that other users of hallucinogenic drugs, especially mushrooms, experience.
It's not completely inconceivable that, yes, he was under the influence of hallucinogenic mushrooms when he had his visions.

Furthermore, the Book of Revelations is hardly similar to other books in the Bible. It has the same theme, but the details of the book contrast startlingly to the rest of the Bible.

i believe in God and if God is real then the Bible is real and everything in it is true so that means the apocalypse will happen exactly as depicted in revelations some ppl are saying that the end of the world is near bcuz of everything gion wrong in the world (multiple wars, natural disasters, numerous corrupt ppl) but rly not many of the prophecies are being fulfilled so i rly dont think the apocalypse is goin to happen in any of our lifetimes

Being the Muslim infidel that I am, I haven't read the book of Revelations. However, since the general direction of this thread is revolving around Apocalypse I'll say that I believe with 100% certainty that it will happen. It may not happen in the way that Revelations depicts it tho.

A lot of the bible is symbolic. Revelations, very much so, obviously. So John was tripping when he wrote it? Ha ha ha! I don't believe in Christian beliefs(I am being raised Catholic; it's obviously not working well); but while Revelations would make a scary story, it probably isn't going to happen. If anything, humanity will destroy itself before God gets around to it.
