i currently use a conair straightener i got from walmart for like twenty bucks. i'd love my hair to be pin straight & my conair doesnt really do that for me. (when it does, it only stays straight for an hour..) so one of my friends suggested folica.com so i was there for a couple of hours & im stuck between these two:

which one would you guys suggest? the solia pink limited edition one has four and a half stars while the chi one just has four. i like the second one because its pink x] & it has more stars. i like the chi one because.. well.. ive heard that chis are good? and yeah. which one would keep my hair pin straight?

i use the chi's iron guard & chi's silk infusion when i straighten my hair. i have long-ish hair (probably halfway down my back) and its thin (or maybe in-between) haha.

I'd go with the Chi as well; there's a reason there are so many reviews for it on folica. Make sure you're not absolutely killing your hair though! and the PM skinny serum is great :)

i read some of the reviews. some people said on the chi that it pulls out hair? and some people who reviewed the pink one said it doesnt? thats what made me want go to with the pink one x) lol

The majority of the girls at my school own Chis, haha. I've never heard of anyone I know in person having problems with them, so I'm thinking that if it's pulling out hair, they're proobably doing something wrong or their hair is super weak. However, I do know some people who prefer the Sedu over a Chi..

yeah, i have an ultra chi and definitely recommend them :) i also use this before straightening it, which helps my hair not get too damaged.

solia cause it got 2 year warranty and i heard chi always breaks or stops working.

These kind scare me. I am scared that my hair will get tangled in the little prong things and my hair will burn or some shit.

...Anyway, I hear a lot of good things about Chi. I plan on getting on soon.

I use one(lawl), and my hair does occasionally get tangled in the prongs. I've only been burned once with it, so that's a good thing.

Whenever my hair gets tangled in the prongs, it's usually only one or two hairs that actually get stuck there. The prongs tend to remove that hair.

kind of off topic, but i never knew hair straigteners were so expensive. wouldnt it be cheaper just to get it straigtened in the salon?

A truly good hair straightener should cost AT LEAST $50. If you buy a shitty Conair one, it takes like 10 minutes to heat up, your hair gets caught in it and you can't get an even straightening effect.

I think getting it done in the salon MAY cheaper in the long run, but I think chemical straightening is damaging, even more so than the heat damage induced by a straightener. Plus, especially for people with wavy/curly hair, you may want to change up your style every now and then...also, a good hair straightener can last you well over 5 years.

i wouldnt want to take the time to drive to the salon when i can just do it at home o_O and idk. i hear good things about both. but on the reviews people said their chi broke like after a couple months AND it only has a 1 year warranty. the solia has 2 (:

Nope. Straighteners last forever while giong to a salon is a recurring cost. Also with a straightener if your hair is curly one day and you want to make it wavy you can just straighten it less, then if you decide you want it straighter you can just straighten it more. It's more cost efficient in the long run, and the long run doesn't take very long to mature in this scenario.

My friend recommends GHD as the best, as it's what many hair stylists recommend. Not too sure since I haven't asked anyone else about it, but she uses it and got it when she was still going to beauty school.

I have a Chi Nano from 2006 and a T3 Tourmaline (I think it's from 2006 also?) that my sister gave to me since she didn't want to bring it with her when she left.

The T3 straightener works really well because you can change the heat (max 410 Fahrenheit). However, I still prefer the Chi because I feel that it straightens my hair more evenly and my hair feels smoother. There is no temperature adjustment switch on it, so IDK how hot it gets. I would say it takes about ~10 seconds to heat up the Chi and ~5 seconds for the T3, since the T3 gets a lot hotter anyway.

Make sure you're not straightening a bunch of hair at once. To get pin-straight hair, take only 1-inch sections of hair and straighten them one at a time. It may take longer, but you'll get the effect that you want, plus you won't snag any hair.

I use Paul Mitchell Super Skinny Serum. I think it works the same as the Chi Silk Infusion.

Oh yeah the Solia also has adjustable heat from like 200 to 450

that thing weighs more than normal straighteners
it takes forever to straighten (3-5 times, same spot?)
oh, and changing the plates suck. but it doesn't matter which plates you use, it's the same effect
