I was wondering if you guys have any techniques for righting reports.
I have a report that has to be like 2 pages long but I have so little information to right with! Im lucky and get to use a 14 size font biggrin.gif

How can I make it longer?! And I dont mean tricks like larger periods. rofl1.gif

Its a speech about a guy in a book. Its a short book and he doesnt say much. Since its a speech it cant be monotonous.
karmakiller
Lol, even Prince had to say something about the way you type.

I had a friend who had to write a 12 page, single space, 11pt font report for Sociology that covered 10 questions and only TWO questions out of the whole report were graded. That means a lot of research and writing for nothing.

Two pages is a breeze. Can you double space? If so, quit your bitching. :)
batman
also, if you make the commas and the periods 1-2 font sizes bigger, that usually buys you a bit of space. havent done that since 6th grade though... but you're only 13, right? so i guess it's appropriate.

Seriously, y'all, cut the kid some slack. He's only 13, this is probably one of the first papers he's ever written. Joseph, are you writing a book report?
Maccabee
this is def not my first report. its a speech about a guy in the book "words by heart". he is a fictional character. and he is barely in the book and he dies and it has to be a speech about what a great man he was. thankfully im the best public speaker so as long as i sound good my teacher will love it. haha. and guys i can write really long reports! i just have so little to work with without sounding monotonous.
smash
i would say use fillers. and by that i mean take specific points about your subject, seperate them and write at least 2 sentences about each.

can you give us more info on the part you have to write about, a link, or something?
Maccabee
good idea. that gave me some serious inspration, thanks. links?'its a book not an e-book. haha. but his character is basically a christian bkack dad living in a racist neighborhood in the 3os i think. so im basically explaining his caracter and giving some examples.
smash
something else that might help: answer these questions what, why, and when. why is he a great man? when did he become a great man? etc.
Just_Dream
wtf why are you complaining, you can double-space that shit.

And 14 pt font? omg, that's easy. Just do the whole 5 paragraph essay dealio.
imperfectionistx
MLA style quotes ftw... indent that shit
You can make half a page with a (good) double-spaced quote

Maccabee
I cant double space or indent. I can only seperate paragraphs but its a speech it doesnt have much structure. but it needs to have more. Thanks Ashley.

Racism was always an easy, imo, thing to right about as far as length. Especially in speech form. Plus religion and how it was told in the 30's, if you wrote how I write that would be pages among pages. Defiantly answer the questions what, why, when, how, who. Elaborate without being monotonous.
Joanne
I had to do a character-analysis presentation on two of the flattest characters in short story "The Destructors" (Joe and the lorry driver) last year, and most of it was analyzing their choice of words ("here here" instead of "hear hear" implies stupidity in Joe), how the others treated them (nobody paid Joe any attention), and what the story would've been like had they not been a part of it (the ending wouldn't have happened had there been no lorry driver).

Just try doing something like that. I would only use the editing tricks for a 2-page paper if there was absolutely nothing else to do.
