Full Version: FriendID? (myspace div overlays)

For those who don't know what FriendID is, it's your unique myspace ID. To grab your friendID, go here.

Applying div overlay layouts are complicated since you need to remember to replace XXXXXXXX with your FriendID before you save it on myspace where the links are converted to msplinks. I've updated the layout codes page with a simple form that will do this for you automagically. What you need to do now is put in your friend id on the form (figure 1) and click on update code. This should make the process of applying divs much less tedious, although you will still need to manually edit the fillers. Maybe in the future I'll automate this entire process. In the meantime, enjoy not having to edit those pesky links!

For designers, if you previously submitted div overlays and did not use XXXXXXXX (must be EXACTLY 8 X's, case insensitive), please check your layouts to make sure that it's compatible with the new system. I ran some automated queries to do most of the conversion, but it doesn't hurt to check.

for all div overlays, theres a form that says update friend id. input your friend id there and click on update code and it should update all the XXXXXXXX. keep in mind that a few of the div overlays are still not compatible.

i normally put like 6 x's
would have to update a lot of layouts for this to work
but its pretty neat.

I was about to get really irritated that I'd have to go back and edit all ninety-six of my submissions...

...But all the ones I checked were already converted, so I'm a happy camper. This is a great little idea. thumbsup.gif

what if your layouts say to replace the "your-friend-id" with your friend id
should we change them to the x's?

i ran some more queries specifically to check for that, and they all should be replaced with xxxxxxxx now.

I think this is a great improvement. _smile.gif You won't believe how many messages I got on myspace asking where to put the friend id. Thanks!

^ yes i know. this is a long overdue update. =)

just a little update, i updated the submitter so that itll now give an error when you submit a myspace layout with MSPLINKS. also, the form only works when the layout code has exactly 8 x's inplace of the friendid to be replaced. i checked some of the myspace layouts that was recently submitted and some of them still dont use the proper format, so if you come across such layout, please let the designer know. this will prevent them from making the same mistake in the future. =)

Good. Now maybe the number of people who can not comprehend replacing some ex's with some numbers will go down.
