Just a suggestion, but maybe if we solicited more OS nerds to CB, we can have a section where people can submit themes and icon packages for different operating systems. Checking out sites like kubuntu-art.org, and ubuntu-art.org is cool, but CreateBlog has a much better setup and it's a hell of a lot easier to navigate.

I'm sure I can get some techies to check this forum out, and if there's a section where they can submit their artwork to improve a given operating system, it would add another dimension to the site.

I've made two themes for the Linux OS Gnome desktop (yes, I like Gnome as opposed to KDE), but they're relatively amateur compared to what I've seen, but I'd be more than willing to be the guinea pig in this scenario.

Feedback?

I don't want to kill dreams, but I kind of doubt that CreateBlog has the technical expertise to support such an endeavour. As far as GNOME or KDE themes go, CreateBlog has scant few Linux users, so the user base for that would be pretty small. Maybe there could be some success in creating Windows themes, but I doubt there'd be that many people interested in making OS shell themes.

No one uses Linux. Seriously, what is the point?

A lot of people use Linux, the general population of cB does not. This might be me generalizing a bit, and I apologize if it comes out offensive but the majority of people I know that use Linux are older (than teenagers, that is). The majority of members here are quite young.

I'd love to see more offerings such as OS Themes but unfortunately that type of talent doesn't frequent this forum much.
Insurmountable
I agree with Michael, I don't see people around here even knowing how to do something like this. And the most I could do is make themes for microsoft xp.

I mean if some would like to do this, I think it would fit in with the new graphic resource thing that we may be putting in.

It would certainly bring in new users and traffic to the site, but I'm not so sure our design staff has much experience in creating OS themes.

It's a great idea. If we could get some more solid support, as in more people interested, more OS theme creators/users, I say go for it.

I made a really hideous xfce theme a few nights ago for my sister's computer. How is it hideous? Hello Kitty.

Thank you for the input. I can only do so much because for 4 days out of the week, I'm on convoys or foot patrols. And when I do get a chance to access the internet in my lovely trailer, it's very, very slow. There's a weekly 1gb download limit here in Iraq, which means my personal internet usage involves a lot of text-based sites.

I'd really like to see the technology and debate forums pick back up. That requires the users on hand to contribute a lot more, or for new users to come in and give those forums a kick-start. Tailoring to a different, and older audience would surely help. Then again, it was just a suggestion.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Meh. Most of the "discussion" in the Technology forum is just "what's the best cell phone" or "fix my computer pls". No one is interested in discussing anything in-depth.

I don't see how this would work. All OS themes I find link to deviantart.
dannyordinary

With that said, it would be possible to do your own and place them on CB, no?

I have yet to run into any, then again, I haven't really searched. I found myself messing around with a code for a default theme and just started off with baby steps. It's a whole different beast altogether, but, to me, its more rewarding.
