Have you traveled to another place and didn't really know what to eat? Ever wondered what places were the best to eat at? The cheapest? Well, since CB has so many people from many different places, I thought people could post up their location and their favorite places to eat.
Guidelines:
- Please state your Location
- Don't just name to place. That isn't very informative. Give a little title that describes why it's so great.
- Write a short summary of your experience there or describe the food or the atmosphere
- Recommend something from the menu you like
- Provide a price guideline. Even if the food is to die for, how many Cbers can afford a $100 burger?
- If you can, provide a website for people to check out.
- If you discover a new yummy place, don't hesitate to edit your post. Just PM and I'll note the changes. I plan to place all the recommendations in the first post.
Best Winter Comfort Food All Year Round: Say Cheese!
649 9th Ave, Between 45th and 46th Streets
I love this place. It's a little off the way from Times Square but it's prices are a lot cheaper than the food there - although it is not Mickey D's cheap. It is so good. There's one waiter and he is the nicest, happiest server I ever had. What could be better than a warm sandwich with gooey cheese? They also have a yummy tomato cheddar soup but not everyone would like it. My friend and boyfriend described it as "pizza soup" even though they liked it. You can get the soup and a sandwich for less than $10. It's an okay sized restaurant. It's very colorful and artsy.
Little Nook of Frozen Delight: Chinatown Ice Cream Factory
65 Bayard St., Between Elizabeth and Mott Streets
I cannot count how many times I walked past this little shop in Chinatown before discovering it. Even now, when I know where it is, I can still miss it. It has a huge menu of flavors. They range from good ole' vanilla to bizarre wasabi. It's cute that they classify "asian" flavors as regular and regular flavors as exotic. It's not exactly cheap cheap but it's well worth it. I think it's like $3 for a scoop but it's a big, heaping scoop. There's no place to sit so you can take your cone on the road and lick at pure frozen goodness. I had cherry pistachio and almond cookie. The cherry pistachio was so good. I finished the cone in like three minutes. The almond cookie was sweet but not as good. My friend had pumpkin pie which tasted like a cold, creamy ginger cookie with a nice fruity sweetness to it. And the green ice cream is highly recommended.
Great Place to Have a Fun Meal With Friends: Salon de Tapas
190 Sullivan St, Bleecker St
My boyfriend took me here and I've only been there once but it was a good experience. I recommend tapas because you can sample many different dishes at low prices. It would be a great dinner option for a large group of people. The portions are pretty big. My boy and I were surprised how big they were. We had the escargot (which served like twenty, huge shells. it's was really delicious without that sandy, bitterness a lot of snails have - $6), the quail (my boyfriend went crazy for this lemony dish. the only thing he complained about was bones- $8), the lamb chops (so tender and moist. lick your fingers good- $9), and the calamari (this i do not recommend. it was floury and had little taste. the sauce it came with tasted bottled- $6). The bill was $44 for four entree sized dishes. It's very small and cozy with dim candle lighting. It's very Spain village feeling. It also has a gorgeous garden in the back but I didn't have an opportunity to see it since it was winter.
