that you guys make me feel ashamed that I don't know anything about Asian music (of all sorts). So can someone give me a brief analysis of the various types (i.e. the difference between krock and jpop and all that good stuff)?
And perhaps a few names to look into? Merci.

I'd like suggestions for Chinese music. I'm Chinese and I don't listen to Chinese music at all yet I listen to Russian music, Spanish and Japanese...
I like Two-Mix, they're J-Pop. They're kind of from back in the day but it's still a little new for me. My ex introduced me to their music with a mixed cd awhile back...however he told me that they've broken up...but they have a Myspace. Their music is in the Gundam Wing anime series thing.
All I know about the J-Rock, K-Rock stuff is that the first letter indicates the language.

L'arc-en-Ciel is pretty much J-Rock perfection. Check out their song "Ready Steady Go."

^ I love that one.
and Kana is a good j-rocker. Her voice is different, but she's just so adorable in her gothic lolita costumes. Her song Chiisaki-Mono isn't very rock-like though, but it's good for the ears.
Bonnie Pink is pretty good as well, although I don't really listen to her.
Moi Dix Mois, is Mana's second band. They're a lot like his old one Malice Mizer. Personally I think Malice Mizer sounds better. Malice Mizer's Itsuwari no Musette is so cute. The beginning kind of sounds like merry-go-round music, but he makes it sound evil. I adore this song.
J-Rock is the only kind of Japanese music I listen to...so

Um... well, these guys aren't together anymore (and haven't been for a long time), but
Cibo Matto remains one of my favorite groups ever. They are fun, feisty and experimental (or were, at least :( )

Alright, I don't know much about K-rock and J-pop and stuff myself, but I do know what my other friends listen to.
Se7en, BoA, Jolin Tsai, Jay Chou.
If you want any more, my friend listens to a ton. Here's a weblog that has a few Asian music artists.

the difference in the types is just what country it came from, and what genre it is. so jpop would be japanese pop music, which is typically very sugary and bouncy and such. krock would be korean rock. c for chinese, t for taiwan, etc.
personally, i've really only listened to L'Arc~en~ciel (but moreso, the lead singer Hyde) though a friend of mine has said Gackt, Miyavi, and Dir En Grey are awesome and worth listening to as far as j-rock. i've also been recommended nami tamaki, the brilliant green, and zone, which are all j-pop. and then the korean groups 1TYM and SG Wanabe.

C-Pop is chinese, I think. At least that's what I thought.

^ But then there's also Canto-pop. Maybe they just call it "canto-pop" instead of "c-pop". I've never heard of Chinese pop be referred to as "c-pop" though.

I'm going crazy over Fiona Sit. Especially her song 886. It's stuck in my head 24/7 even though I have no clue what she's saying.
