ROUND 5 WILL BE ANNOUNCED SOON

whenever the judges were done critiquing these, it ended up being tied for second and third. two judges had one order for 1,2,3 and the other two judges had another order for 1,2,3. so anyway this was a really close round. i ended up having two more people step in and judge so we could get a majority.

first place - Mike

men's box & bottle

Congrats on wining first place.

everyone liked the vintage feel. a lot of judges liked the simplicity. everyone thought it was the most clean design. everyone liked the color scheme of the schemes for the most part. one comment was, "I think he/she did a good job choosing the colors for both genders because I think generally men want to feel rougher and tougher and women want to feel sleek and sophisticated.". i agree with that pretty much. i think the flourishes turned out nice and i give you props for making them from scratch yourself. nice font choice font. i think the "use with caution" was perfect considering the title.

-
because of the simplicity some thought it wasn't as creative as it could be. a couple judges thought you should have made a more slim container for the women's bottle. i kinda wanna see the bottles just a little bit longer. the top and bottom of the flourishes are pretty close to the top of and bottom of the bottle. it's not cramped, but it's getting pretty close to the line for me.

second place - thomas

the concept of this was nice. everyone liked the boxes with the texture a lot. everyone though the name was a good one and liked how the name played off it. this concept was my favorite.

-
an explanation of your design would have been helpful. when it comes to the men's bottle most of us didn't know what was going on. it's a bottle attached to a box? i was lost and i'm not sure how to critique it because i don't really know what i'm looking at. some judges thought it would have been cool to get more detailed and more tuxedo-ish. one suggestion was for the men's bottle to have been a white shirt theme, and the box would have been the tux jacket theme. some judges liked the women's bottle and some didn't. some thought all the jaggedness took away from the simplicity you have going on the boxes. they weren't so sure about the shape of the bottle.

third place - joseph

you only lost second place by one vote. it was really close and i had to go get more judges just to figure it out. that shows you've come a long way from round one. this was my favorite design by you so far. for the most part everyone liked the zebra. which is good because i know you put a lot of work into vectoring that whole thing. the judges also liked the name of it.

-
the judges didn't like the city. i think we all liked the idea of it, just not the execution of it. it looks kinda sloppy. you said you had trouble with it, so that's no surprise to you probably. it's kinda awkward because sometimes the grey would go down into the letters and other times it wouldn't. it looks unbalanced to me. i wish it went straight across the top instead of being so broken up. the boxes with the logos came out kinda blurry, but not awful. i think there are some perspective problems here and there with the 3d, but its still pretty nice for your first try. one judge made the comment that overall it was too masculine in general. i kinda agree with that. i think it's good you changed the bottle shape for the women, but that's pretty much all you did. i wish the packaging had been changed for the women too in some way. i think more distinction would have been better there.

All of you did a really great job on this. I do think Mike had the better design overall, although the ladies bottle that Thomas designed is pretty cute.

Ya everything you have been saying about my designs have been spot on with what I was thinking. The perspective tool in the gimp doesnt work very well. I need photoshop already.

I like everyone's, but I do really like Mike's design. I think it would've hands down been my favorite had the bottle for women been a bit sleeker than the bottle for men.

Ah, I could see how that could become a mystery. It's actually inspired by over sized lids, all of the black on the mans bottle is a lid, that continues down the side. Both bottles represent articles of clothing, I'm sure you guessed that.

Can't wait to see what round 5 will be about.
