I was just curious how many of you have studied abroad, either in high school or in college. Or if any of you are interested in studying abroad and what steps you're taking to make that happen...

I'd just like to hear a little bit about your experience, since I'm interested in eventually studying abroad.

I plan on studying abroad in Japan next summer. Deadlines for studying abroad usually happens during the fall semester. I've taken 3 Japanese Language courses in order to fulfill the requirement of the program.

I know studying abroad is very expensive, and I have been saving up money for it and you probably should too. Also, there's a study abroad building on my campus, where you can go and look at fliers and talk to counselors there if you're ever interested. Not sure if your college have one as well. Best thing is talking about someone in the program you are most interested in.

We don't have a building, more like a room lol

I was going to spend half of my junior year of high school in Germany, but I couldn't afford it. I plan on talking to someone at my school, because prices vary so much depending on where you go and where you stay when you're there.

The college i want to go to has a study abroad program. I would love to study in japan, but me trying to learn the language would be rough. However my choice would probably study in England. My mom said she will probably encourage me to do so when im in my 2nd or 3rd year of college.

I'm planning on studying abroad someplace in Europe (England? Italy? Germany?) sometime in my fourth year of college. I will be doing my first co-operative education next year so that I can help my parents pay for some/most of my tuition fees.

My sister worked at my school's international exchange program full-time for her co-operative education, so she knows about all the steps in applying for exchange. And she's currently in preparation for her exchange term in Prague or Dublin next year, so I'll probably be asking her lots of questions regarding what I need to have done, etc.

A lot of my friends are currently abroad. Australia, Swtizerland and some other places. My brother studied abroad in Spain/Italy (so jealous) and he loved it.

I wish I could, but I'm too broke to. sad.gif

wait Tung, aren't you graduating??

i was in england for spring 09. one of the best decisions that led to some of the best times of my life. coming back was definitely difficult and i found it hard to settle into senior year at first. but, i've reconnected with friends at my home uni and working hard on my thesis. it's definitely tough, but you have to adjust. although, some people do change when they're abroad. for example, one of my closest friends before we both went abroad, now, just seems like a mere acquaintance.

one tip though, if you end up going abroad, is, don't hang out with only the people in your program, that gets boring fast. i don't think i would have loved england as much as i did, had i not gotten to know a lot of actual british students.
