Photo Editing Programs, which one do you prefer? Options

yeah i love photoshop! i like psp after that i usually use both at the same time

Eh. I had PSP. I refused to touch PS for the longest time thinking people were idiots saying that the two were any difference in quality.

I know better now.

And, I'd like to add, I actually found PS MUCH more intuitive to use. Once I learned to tweak my routines up, I've learned how much PS simplifies my work flow PLUS shows more quality...I can admit though...I have my days where I see some graphics I did in PSP and can't quite think as to how I would accomplish it in PS...

now...last I checked...making pixel animation...PSP and Animation shop were a must...but I've learned to use guides and things of that sort in PS and haven't tried since gaining a better grasp of PS.

And animation wise, AS may be easier in some fields, but PS DEFINITELY ends with better quality and has more perks in specific other areas pertaining fluid transitions...
PSP's nice, but I'd never go back.

Ps is the industry standard. Never used psp so gimp second. And ice never used photofiltre but juging from what I have seen it looks awful. So paint. Net would be third.

I've said this before, they're used for different things. Gimp is where it's at for basic photo manipulation (ie. cut and paste jobs, recoloring, etc.). PSP is good for vectors and such. Photoshop is a good all-encompassing program.


The one thing that really bothers me with photoshop is the selection tool. I like GIMP's selection tool much better.

Photoshop is the industry standard. However, there are similar tools in other programs that I prefer to Photoshop. The clone stamp is much more fluid in PSP, at least the last time I used it.

I prefer the interface of Photoshop too, I've never liked PSP's. I've tried GIMP, it's free and a decent program. If you have money, I'd say go for PS but if you don't, PSP is much cheaper and whilst it can't do everything PS does, it can do a whole heck of a lot. If you have no money and aren't a pirate, GIMP is your best choice.

I agree with CJ about that both psp and ps have the high points. (never used gimp) I prefer photoshop over all though.

Photoshop, always. But since Michael brought me to the attention of Pixelmator, I use that very frequently on my Macbook for simple photo editing jobs.
