Advice for Acting by Jane
1. (The most important rule everrr) Always have fun no matter what. You don't have to struggle just to be big.
2. Learn to be professional and learn to take rejection.
Me, I'm a cancer >_> I'm pretty sensitive but these kinda things we all have to learn to do. When someone critizes your acting or what you do, don't take it as something to look down upon. Listen to what they have to say--they could be right and it could be something you can work on.
3. Stage fright: This is completely normal. Sometimes I get stage fright as well.
Well...have you ever watched Hannah Montana? Ever seen the episode where she's warming up? And she goes Ang Ang Ang Ang like a dog? xD Well always try to lossen up and relax before performing. It calms the nerves and let's you focus.
4. Breathe.
Probably the most important rule. If you ever feel like you're forgetting a line, take a deep breath. If you can't remember your line just continue to act the emotion.
5. Practice.
There are many actors/actresses out there. Many your friends and you can have a little fun and act out a movie. You guys will be practicing and sharpening your skills when you don't even know it!
6. Be a social butterfly.
Actors have very outgoing personalities, so why not you? Try talking to people more, start conversations (even with your friends!) don't be afraid to smile. This will definately boost your confidence and break through the shy barrier.
You should never give up. If you get rejected, try again! (= Trust me. That's just 1 of the 70 auditions that you will get turned down. The other 69 are up to you.
Advice for the photographers Submitted by Arjuna Capulong
To photographers out there:
If you're planning to be a photographer as your future career, you'd have an advantage if you start some kind of small business early, like now, or whenever you think you're ready (as soon as possible, however).
You can then start building your reputation as a photographer, while getting the gist of running a business. It's a pretty good experience, overall.
ALSO! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about barbizon or anything of the above.
There's still more to come...
i want to have a job in technology/computers. i..........um.......spend a lot of time on computers? i'm not really doing much yet.
Hmm...computer/technology. I think my uncle used to deal with a similar job, but he was a technician. Well, what grade are you in they might have a computer class in high school.
our school doesn't have crap as far as computers....
Eh, well that doesn't sound too good. Well what kind of job do you want to major in computers? Web design, graphic design? Or do you want to fix computers or something like that?
you could also look into post secondary computer courses as well it doesn't have to be in high school. maybe even some night courses i've finally decided to get into dentistry :) yay me!
The future Paula Zahn/Anderson Cooper/Peter Jennings is right here.
edit: Maybe a plastic surgeon? That'd be a pretty sweet job. Reconstructive & cosmetic.
i want to model. but i know modeling isnt a career that is going to be provided for me after a few years so im hoping to be a social worker for the rest of the time.
Biotechnology business, or something along those lines.
Stop lying Sally, we all know you're going to be a pornstar.
Feel free to contribute any links that would prove to be useful in this thread.
^ Seems like you've made some contributions to Createblog already. You can try expanding your graphic skills but learning the simple tutorials that are provided for you at Createblog. Soon you'll be able to do all the cool stuff the other people can do that we can't. (Then you can teach me!)
i already model, but thanks anyway. lol.
^ Really? Have you done photoshoots with different companies? How is it like?
ATTENTION! Feel free to help us expand the resources table by providing links!
Either a Physical Therapist or Continue Modeling,Dancing, and Singing
I want to have something to fall back on if working in The Arts doesnt work out.
Oh and I dont recommend Explore Talent they charge you way too much to do what you do best!
I want to have something to fall back on if working in The Arts doesnt work out.
Oh and I dont recommend Explore Talent they charge you way too much to do what you do best!
a real agency never asks you money before you start work. some are frauds while others just arent a great agency. they wont ask you to pay until youve already gotten paid and started to work under their name.
Nah. I have an account at explore talent. It's actually pretty good, a bit costy but if you can get your parents to pay cough up a few bucks for a few months then it's all worth it. It gives you the best open calls.
You should add www.monster.com. It helps you get your resume[which you can upload or monster will help you build one] noticed by employers. I posted mine like a week and a half to two weeks ago and I got 2 calls for interviews in the past 3 days which I think was pretty fast, although they weren't the kinda places I'd wanna work at.
As for a career, I'd like to get into Photography and MAYBE filmmaking. I'm gonna try to get into computer graphics too.
^ Thanks much for that.
http://quiz.myyearbook.com/zenhex/quiz.php?id=29390
Here's a cute test to determine your future career.
Singer, songwriter, producer, dancer, actress, fashion designer
oh wait, I already am.
I'm just not making very much money off of it yet.
wtf I got business woman. THIS TEST IS FOR GIRLS!!!
^x2 That's the same jobs my sister wanted. She's been studying phycology for a while now.
This test is bogus! I don't wanna be a business MAN. And i'm a guy not a woman. *-*
^ I know. But I found the test cute. It said I would be a celebrity.
^ That's true but those people makes lots of money.
So who here has heard of John Robert Powers. Or is it Roger.
it said I will be a business women, which isn't that bad of an idea.
^ I hear you get bad eyesight from that.
From being on the computer so much, I suppose.
Oh I thought you were talking about photography.
Photography is always fun. I just don't have much talent in it.
Really? I thought it was just a school. So they really mean it when they say, not everyone can get in?
oh, well they had auditions. i guess you had to be good for them to take you.
Journalism.
It's my passion.
Dang, I was just gonna start a thread like this the other day. You beat me to it, lol.
I am going to be an actor. That's what I'm going to major in. I also hope to become a rockstar
I'm getting a second degree in journalism.
^ Yay! So I'm not alone.
Man ever since studying up on acting and cinemography. I realized I don't enjoy movies if the person playing the character isn't putting it all into the character.
Now I wanna go to acting school.
I've also added a sports section. Any other ideas?
http://www.hollywoodauditions.com/
^ for acting
i used to want to study acting but like, what if it doesnt work out? i'd need a back up
i got fast food on that quiz...ha
i don't know what i want to do as a career, i wish i did . i wanted to be a broadway actress/singer but it turns out i can't sing well lol
http://similarminds.com/career.html
is a another quiz thing. it lists possible careers. i got persuader
my school has a career test program but it sucks ass
Thanks much airam. Eh, my school doesn't have that kind of thing.
I want to go into Chemistry. I'll take that quiz and see what I get.
I can't wait to test some experiments in Chemistry when I go to high school. Hopefully our science teacher won't be the essay type.
neurology
anyone else interested in it?
it's the science of how the brain works.
I want to be a veteranarian or a marine biologist.
I want to be a pilot and fly for the US Air Force first and then get a job for a major airlines (like Jal or Singepore Air)
My back up is to be a cook.
^ I love food!
I want to be an Egyptologists but since its seasonal ill work as a Forensic anthropologist/college professor during the months the excavations arent running I also want to own a school for people interested in Anthropology and history.
I'd really like to work for the FBI or somewhere else in the government
^ My friend Jue wants to be a C.I.A cop. There's actually a high school for that over here.
Since I'm going into a computer school and i'm in like a webdesigning/graphic arts program, then i guess that could be a possibilty for me. But then, last night, when i was reading a book, they were talking about psychiatrist/psychologist [sp?] and it got me pretty interested. So i'm not sure yet.
You don't care for the people!
I keed.
Well, I think graphic designing would be pretty cool. Like that ad we saw on the train! It could help you learn more!
SPECTROSCOPIST!!! RAWR!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spectroscopy
(i really like spectroscopy. some of the most important discoveries are founded my spectroscopists. or so i've heard..)
or anything in astrophysics/earth science.
just something in science in general.
like.. i want to get a double major. one in astronomy/something science and buisness.
My major is Interactive Media Design and it's a major that can take me into many possible careers. Right I'm looking into user interface design.
^ Aww. I wish I could play the guitar. You know if you can form a band it would be great. Or Youtube. Youtube works wonders.
well, me and a few of my friends are trying to make a band, but we can't find a lead singer.. and we don't have that much time to reherse.
life coach
^ x2 Well you can always wait til school starts to find a good lead singer. Maybe you guys could practice on the weekends or afterschool or something.
----
I've never heard anyone's response to be life coach. But it seems very interesting.
I want to be a Photographer, since photography is my passion.
Do you have any pictures on you? I'd love to see them.
Kaycee = Future Oncologist
http://www.bls.gov/, just search for your occupation and it provides information like job outlook, average pay, etc.
^ Thanks for that.
^ Your family is probably is gonna make a big difference in life.
My goal is to become a surgeon. If I get married and have someone to support me I might try and go for a neurosurgeon, but then again I might want to do cardiovascular surgery. Oh! And then I was watching this one medical show and I was thinking about a trauma surgeon. That would be sweet.
shampoo192, that's awesome that you want to be a veterinarian. I was recently talking to someone about that, and they told me that people who want this career often say they do it because they love animals. But some of them don't understand that you will be working with people as well. So if you want to be a vet, you have to like animals and people. But you probably already knew that!
My parents wanted me to become a doctor, but I could never deal with the blood.
Pediatrician; I love working with kids.
Or something food-related such as a chef or food stylist.
Pediatricians are the best. I miss my old one.
I want to major something in the Medical Field, but I don`t know what.. I`m thinking about being a Pediatrician but its too common now days so.. any ideas?
The medical field is huge. There's so many ideas out there. I'm lucky to live in the area I do because we have career camps; I recently went to a Health Careers Camp. If you don't want to go through all the schooling, you could be a Respiratory Therapist, a Physician's Assistant, a Phlebotomist...the choices are endless. I'd say when school starts just go talk to your guidance counselor about options in the medical field. Other than that I'd recommend a type of surgeon or a different type of doctor other than pediatrician.
I'm gonna see if I can find anything on medical classes.
Aren't there a few high schools that specialize in the medical field?
There's one high school in Queens, NY that specializes in health..
Queens Gateway To Health Sciences Secondary High School
Yeah. And in Queens, there are A MILLION different high schools that specialize in different things. Well, maybe not Queens, but all of NYC.
My friend got into one, I forgot what it was called something with Medical in it.
biochemistry, perhaps.
Man, that's what I'm looking forward to the most in high school. Besides the drama, chemistry seems cool.
This is what showed up when I googled:
Scientist who studies the chemistry of living things and their life processes.
I found a website for NASA jobs:
http://www.nasa.gov/about/career/index.html
They hire scientists (many branches of science), engineers, computer programmers, personnel specialists, accountants, writers, maintenance workers, and other people.
You can even get internships and jobs and volunteer there.
Thanks. I'll post it up.
I'm hoping to be a Makeup Artist. I've already started practicing with my MAC cosmetics.
im thinking about being a pharmacist :]
Pediatrician, actress, or chef. (=
Hmm,
Anything I suppose, anything to do with computers perhaps. Being a psychologist would be neat.
Oncologist, oncologist, oncologist.
It's like, perfect. Just perfect.
3D computer animation :]
Singer, Producer, Dancer, Actress, Fashion Designer, Spokesmodel, Talk Show Host :)
All at once.
My future career is somewhat a job to work with RAWR something
i forgot that person's name but ... oh well.
our geeky interest is science. ;]
HEY HEY HEY HEY, DONT BE DISSING US. DONT BE JEALOUS !
i want to be in the medical field
I wanted to be a lawyer when I was younger.
And then I wanted to be an interior designer. So it's between those two, I guess. Or I might not even choose any of them...
Ehh. Idk.
Working on basketball right now [:
Errrr. Thats a really good question.
Either something in the Photography field, a Heart Doctor, or something to do with European culture / history.
Ughhh. Photographers dont get paid hardly anything.
i'm thinking about getting into dental hygeine :)
Or the Rochester Institute of Technology or the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Both are in NY, and Troy isn't far from NYC. MIT is pretty close by, too.
My grandfather told me I should design Greeting Cards.
And that sounds like it would be reeeeaalllyyyy fun.
Future prostitute.
I want to be something that involves children, like a teacher or a pediatrician.
I'm looking into a few different things if Dance and music don't work out.
-Fashion Design
-Photography
-Psychology with a focus on criminal
-Lawyer
-Forensics
mangaka....
manga ---> cartoon
Ending lives.
I'm going to be an actor. I love acting. I'll probably do something with computers on the side, like Video Game design or Journalism.
my major carreer will probly be Fashion Design and minor is music producer. im goin to Savanah College of Art and Design either carreer im choose lol.
Oh, visit F.I.T sometime. It could help you major in that! Well for the fashion part.
Topics merged. I don't see why we needed the 'your future career' thread in the Lounge.
to those interested in john robbert powers: it really is a good school I went there for 2 years I loved it i went to the one in new york. i have another friend who took modeling classes there but i know someone else who tried Barbizon I believe. I'm a college freshman and I'm majoring in communicaiton arts focusing on graphic design and filim =]
Either an elementary school teacher or an Italian teacher.
I would LOVE to be a pediatric cradiologist or oncologist. But I'm worried that I'm too lazy to get through the 8+ years of college. Plus, it takes alot of money and dedication. But, I would be doing something I love. Helping people.
Or... if the whole doctor thing didnt work out, i'd probably major in web design or something computer related.
Photography is my passion, but there's not a whole lot of options for a career. Plus, it doesnt exactly pay well.
*is confused*
^ They don't? I always thought photographers made big bucks.
I think it depends on who you work for..
Like say if you're independent, the pay would probably be pretty bad.
But then if you work for a powerful company like Samsung, the pay might actually be pretty good.
i'm always changing my mind about what i wanna major in next year but as of right now i'm back at my original plan...ACCOUNTiNG
Eh I was never really good at numbers to begin with. I don't think I'd do too well in the business industry.
Well I just wanted to bump this. But for all those actors: http://exploretalent.com is the best for auditions.
im still deciding, i am majoring in computer graphic arts at the moment kind of like graphic design, or i might transfer to another college to major in interior design...
i got kind of discouraged to go for graphic design cause i know about 7 that dont have jobs after they graduated. i am so scared that might happen to me. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ADVICE.
A journalist or a filmmaker.
I know that I don't want to go to college.
I've always wanted to become an author.
I've been so intent on becoming an oncologist, but now I have this itch to become a teacher.
Yikes.
I want to be a novelist. I've loved to write my whole life. My second choice would be a fashion designer/consultant, but writing is my first love.
^ Writing is a love of mine as well. :)
I'm meeting and greeting with a couple of producers tomorrow, so wish me luck! Hopefully they'll have something for me.
^ Oh cool, much luck to you.
I should post that up. One second....
attending FIDM in about 1 1/2
major=Graphic Design
Graphic designing, I wanna take a class in high school for it.
i want to be a psycologist...........or a lawyer i haven't decided. but i think i want to be a psycologist.
Everyone I know wants to be a psycologist.
im a chef.
i love cooking
and to anyone who wants to consider that career field should know it makes great money.
just know that it takes alot of hard work
and lots of skill beacsue its a very competitive field =]
Tell me about it! There's even a culinary program in my school. The bread they cook smells really good. Too bad I'm in the western technology program. Yee haw.
i want to get my doctorates and become a counseling psychologist... :)
i really want to be a chef, too. that sounds like fun.. :D
Food testing can be both dangerous and tasty! I wonder...
^ Ha ha. You can have the positives if you run as a food judge on food network instead.
But then again, I guess you would have to start off as a food tester.
mucho helpful! i want to be a computer programmer, maybe. idk yet.
I want to be a pharmacist.
^ St. Johns!
They accept almost everyone that applies. About 1/3 of the class of '06 of my school got in.
I'm so confused when it comes to college and deciding on a major.
Possible options:
- Oncologist (would make the biggest impact, and i'd be helping people. it would give my life more purpose)
- Cardiologist (same as above)
- Photography (my passion... doesnt pay well at all though)
- Web Design (another passion)
- Engineering (what my dad wants me to do lol)
- International affairs / foriegn relations
- German language/culture
- Stay at home mommy/housewife. (easiest option)
Oncology, Cardiology, or Engineering are my top 3, but I'm worried that it would be too hard to get through school. I'd be looking at 8 years ++ for Medical school. Engineering wouldnt be too bad though. I'm just so lazy... I cant see myself doing anything.
^ Wow, you got your priorities set. Hmm...I find the german language one to be appealing. I think it's cool to major in a language that isn't yours.
My latin teacher is german but he speaks fluent latin and I think it's really cool. Would you ever want to teach German?
Chicken Flavored gum...mmm...I'd do it if I were paid.
I'd eat it only if it came with ketchup..
I'm thinking of astrobiology right now. Being an astrobiologist sounds really cool. It's basically looking for life on other planets and the future of the Earth and universe.
Astrophysicist/engineer/spectroscopist/aeronauticist/astronauticist seem like really cool jobs, but I think astrobiologist is the one for me. (For now.)
But.. I want to find a job in which I can design probes and rovers for NASA. I just don't know what it's called. It has something to do with engineering though.
Argh, there are wayy to many jobs that have to do with astronomy and NASA! I don't know what to choose anymore.
I have 3 options..
-Drummer
-Physicoligist (Helps people mentally)
-Religion Scholar
Journalist, songwriter, or author.
I also have been getting into modeling and I aspire to be Miss America or Miss USA.
^^ i hear modeling is really really hard.and getting into Miss America is really hard too.
^ It probably is. They say how tall you are doesn't matter--yeah I think that's BS.
accountant.
:X
It's a 1 of 1000000000.
i also might wanna become a lawyer.
yay for yelling at people! haha
current career: Chick-fil-a "team member"
(a nice way of saying cashier/headset person)
future career: Companion animal veterinarian :)
I have patience...I'm just too lazy.
I want to be a speech language pathologist. a speech therapist. but currently I'm just starting my first year in a 2 year community college. any advise out there?
^ That was my former major but I changed it because I found out I hated it so much.
Classes to take are anatomy, especially of the head and ear. Trust me, you will need this class. If you can get into a basic sign language class that will be helpful too. A class I most highly recommend is Linguistics, this deals with the scientific study of language.
For further info, check out this site. http://www.asha.org/default.htm
Thanks for the website, I'll post that up now.
i want to become a Nurse-Midwife ... or a musician. lol.
Musician? That's an interesting career. Care to share some music (if you have)
I'd really like to work in the medical field, but my science is not strong enough, in my opinion. It's probably my worst subject. However, I was thinking of being a Nutritionist, because it only requires a bachelor's degree and it is more food chemistry based rather than, let's say, physics
However, I also have an interest for being a teacher. With my passion for music, I was thinking of becoming a Music Teacher, which would require a music major of some sort. Music is more so skill-based than memorization, like most subjects, which I'm not sure I can do. Tapping into my heritage, I also want to be a Foreign Language Teacher (Mandarin), since I really want to be more fluent in the language. Also, being a teacher would allow me to utilize the language on a daily basis so I won't forget it again.
Anyways, I'm a sophomore... so I do have some time to think, but not a whole lot.
Foreign Language teachers are always cool. I think that would be a great career, I haven't seen many ABC teaching chinese in school.
im edging towards pschology. perferably forensics.
i cant diddle daddle now. ill be graduating next year. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT I WANT IN LIFE, DAMN IT.
i hate choosing.
i wanna be a lawyer.
^ Lawyer school = Scary.
I think one of the best is Harvard. [Well at least that's what I heard]
I actually want to become a lawyer also. :) Arguing/Debating = Fun fun fun.
Anyone know a good place to get an education in business?
Just wondering. I took a career assessment thing at school, and a lot of the recommended jobs involved business schooling.
There's a business and finance high school near my area. But I'm not sure you'd want to move all the way from there to attend.
NYU has a really good business program. Same with CMU and Georgetown.
You could check out http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/undergraduate/06profiles/ for more business schools.
I'll post that up for reference.
Wish me luck guys, I'm going in for 2 modeling meet ups with the casting director. Hopefully I can get a job.
Good luck!
Buena suerte!
I'm not sure how it went, I wasn't there for too long, but I'd have to check my email on Monday.
What's your modelling meet up for? Runway or commercial print?
I've decided to declare my major. I'm going to be a music major, and hopefully end up working in the music industry.
^ It was for commericial print.
Music? That's awesome, what do you play?
I play the piano and the clarinet. But I'm not looking into performing.
Ahh, then what are you interested in?
No, not education. Unfortunately, I can't stand teaching. I'm looking into production, music administration, which is a growing field in need of more people who understand both music and business, and other fields like this in the music industry. I know for certain that I'll keep composing though.
I'm kind of stuck between going into modern, popular music, or sticking to classical music.
I always wanted to be a vet. What should I major in?
http://www.bls.gov/oco/pdf/ocos076.pdf
Okay, you need to finish an undergrad program to get in, and a couple require a bachelor's degree. After finishing the Undergard or Bachelor's program, then it takes another four years to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at a univeristy accredited by http://www.avma.org/. Hard work and quite a few years of high-level education, but there's a very high job outlook and very good salary.
I guess now, I just need to work on overcoming blood.
I think I want to be a desktop publisher. Not sure. But they basically design and lay-out brochures, business cards, and stuff like that. They don't make much, but I think I would LOVE it. Hopefully I could do it. :\ I have much much much to learn.
But almost everything involving Digital Media/Communications Technologies sounds interesting and awesome!
^ Career shadowing? I want to be able to do that SOOO bad. Tell me how it goes. I've never really heard of a desktop publisher, but it somehow reminds me of a graphic designer.
web design and programming
not that it matters theres about 395782309 ppl who want to do it
i was thinking about becoming a doctor until i heard about how hard it is for international students to get into pre-med in the states (yet alone how hard it is for anybody to get in) :( eh... i really want to, though.
what kind of classes should i plan on taking in high school / what should my average gpa be if i want to become something like a clinical psychologist?
It depends what you wanna do. What would you feel more happier doing? Helping doctors save and help lives, helping the community or have an boring job with good pay?
^ As is acting. There's never a guarantee.
I'm going into the Air Force and I'm going to be trained in the field of Electronics Avionics. Shweet.
Then eventually I want to become a pilot. So, that's my career choice.
^ Wow, that definately sounds cool.
Pilot, as in commercial airline pilot? Or in the Air Force?

You're all assuming the poster is a "she", probably because the poster exhibited poor spelling.

I'm currently training to become a flight attendant. I also have my eye on a pilot license though; so maybe if I ever get sick of safety demonstrations and serving drinks, I'll work on that.
Definitely have my eyes set on being an Art Director for an ad agency or graphic design professor.
I want to be a teacher but teachers don't get paid enough for what they do, so I plan on getting an additional degree in guidance counseling and I want to get either an associate or bachelors degree in graphic web design. Right now I'm working on getting a bachelors degree in English [major], with education as my minor, then go back to school to get a double masters in English and Guidance counceling.

I'm going to study to get my bachelors of science degree in photography, either at the art institute of Philly or somewhere closer to home.
That's the practical side. The dreamer side hopes to get published in National Geographic someday as a nature photographer or a photo journalist. I've never tried the latter, and I get really excited when I think about trying new things, or shooting in other countries.
So basically, I don't know what kind of photographer I want to be yet, but I know I don't really like doing portraits.

A professional girlfriend.
Don't hate. It's a lot of work, especially when your boyfriend is as accident-prone as mine.
