HOSTING SITE REVIEWS

great list, this a valuable resource. that being said, I'd like to add a few things...

Angelfire and Geocities cracking down on mp3 hosting. Be careful if u use one of those to host your mp3s. .wavs and .wmas are fine, I've hosted both on my Angelfire account and not had any problems. Geocities can be kinda hostile and will shut your site down if they find out you have mp3s on it...that's what I've heard anyway, I've never hosted audio files there...

Ripway Be careful of your bandwidth...they monitor it very closely and your files will not work if you've exceeded your limit....regardless of format...

Freewebtown offers a lot of space, but server availability is kinda sketchy...

that's all for now. _smile.gif

[EDITD BY SWEETXSIMPLICITY]

Strike 9 They don't give you a lot of space, I could only upload one MP3 on my account, after that, I reached my maximum storage capacity. ><

MyFileStash I've been using it recently, and I think it's pretty good, but you can upload a lot of music, maybe about eight music files, but beware of the overusage of bandwidth. =x

Soundclick I don't think you can upload songs by other artists other than you on that site, I think soundclick is for like if you have a band or something.

QUOTE
Can I upload a song with samples or a master recording that I do not own?

SoundClick does not permit copyrighted audio samples to be uploaded without prior written permission from the copyright holder(s). If you are uploading a remix of another artist's recording, you must obtain prior written permission from both the owner of the original recording and the owner of the underlying musical composition. Tracks determined by SoundClick to be "pirated" recordings will be deleted immediately and the artist page will be subject to permanent deletion.

[EDITED BY MISSMATA]

FreeHomePages.com I personally use this site and I love it. I can generally only host about 8-10 songs before reaching the hosting limit, but I usually host about five at a time. I recommend this for those who only want to host a few songs at a time.

[EDITED BY LIGHTNER]

Geocities will hold more songs, and take less bandwidth and stuff if it is put into ram.

For homepagez they supervised my account very closely and after i upload 4 songs in a matter of 1 week they shut me down. So I am not sure exactly why they did so.

www.free-webspace.biz allows 255mb space, unlimited bandwidth, 950kb is the maximum size of mp3 I was able to upload, I recommend changing format to wmvs.

[EDITED BY SPIRITEDFREAK]

Blogupload - I recommend this for .wmas. It's really good except it'll hold about 4 songs? pretty good if you ask me.[/font][/size]

Also ---> http://www.rapidshare.de/
I'm not sure if they allow remote linking, though.

Posted by: Lightner Jun 23 2005, 01:46 PM

homepagez.com no longer accepts wmv's or mp3's. When I uploaded an mp3, the page was not displayed. When I uploaded a WMV the file did not show up.

for people that use cox internet, you can upload 10 mb of things onto your webspace. plus if you have the master email, you can create 7 more email accounts so thats 80 mb of storage right there.

Posted by: angelshortipnai Jul 5 2005, 09:42 PM

i've tried all the websites on the video hosting sites...but my video's really big and i want to put it on my myspace...its 55.0 MB of size _unsure.gif and most of the sites only goes up to 10 MB...so do u guys know ne sites that goes up to 55 MB?

Posted by: fishcake-y Jul 6 2005, 01:14 AM

You shouldn't be uploading things of that size. 1o MB is even big for a video upload. Reduce the bitrate of your video + it's actual height and width. It'll make the video choppy, but it'll minimize lag time from loading. Which is better than great video quality on the internet.

Posted by: lvirden Jul 12 2005, 09:10 AM

Has anyone tried out http://www.ourmedia.org/ - that site claims to be specifically for mp3s and videos... of course, you need to _own_ the rights to the material being uploaded.
But that's true for any online sites.

Angelfire shut down my account in just one day--for uploading mp3s. mad.gif

Posted by: XAfter_ShockX Aug 23 2005, 05:41 PM

http://www.putfile.com you can upload almost anything there

Posted by: Lightner Sep 10 2005, 11:01 PM

for angel fire u must make it look like u have a site, then make a file kinda hidden so they wont know u have them. i think you should upload songs as .ram they take up less space...

To avoid having your Angelfire account being closed, before uploading your audio file and hotlinking to your MySpace -- or whatever. Edit the index.html file. Just change a few things and add "Page underconstruction!!" and they will leave you alone. Since I don't want to violate any tos' for any of my paid hosts -- I use Angelfire (multiple accounts) for my blogs and MySpace account.

Just something to take into consideration.

laugh.gif same!

At the moment I'm using Blogupload.com, but it doesn't allow mp3 files unless you pay v_v so I use freewebs.com instead for MP3 files... Then again, it's incredibly slow.

Posted by: RoyalRiver Feb 19 2006, 10:04 PM

MyFileStash-I signed up at that site but whenever I try to upload something it sas:
CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers.

Excellent. 8MBs of any file that you want! Don't even need to sign up! Hotlinking allowed on all files. Extremely Fast Server.

http://www.250free.com/

Best for images. Will not allow hotlinking for anything over 250 kb, but extremely fast for small images and files that you need quick. 250 MB of free storage!!

You can actually host pretty much anything on FileLodge. It's awesome, because it lets you upload up to 50MB files including audio, video, pictures, and etc. etc. It's totally free, and I definately recommend it ^^

Compare:
~ImageShack only lets you upload up to 1.5 MB per picture, and it doesn't upload audio and
video! However, ImageShack's specialty is pictures, so I guess that the images uploaded on ImageShack are faster loading.
~TinyPic offer both image and video hosting; however, you can only upload up to 250KB. That's very, well, very tiny!

http://webjay.org lets you take all your hosted mp3s and create playlists out of them then you can make a mp3 player that plays your whole playlist here:http://web.forret.com/tools/webjay.asp?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwebjay.org%2Fby%2FlikeohmygeeRAWR%2Fstepphersmusik&type=xspfs&button=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.forret.com%2Fprojects%2Fpodcast%2Fmusicplayer.png&intro=&outro=&max=20&autoplay=1and if you want to edit the playlist then go back to web jay and log in and add music or remove music thats what I use on my xanga & myspace {ihave a div layout so it works better than the regular player}

Filelodge is good BUT there are problems with it when it comes to uploading music.

Before I used Filelodge to upload music for my music site but it turns out that the more you upload the more it cuts down the music time. I hope that's understandable!

I used to use filelodge.com but the site no longer exists. It shut down because apparently they had some sort of virus. I'm trying to find a good substitute now. Does anyone know? Xanga now offers audio uploading but I'm pretty skeptical. shifty.gif

I used bagthatpic.com for photo sharing.
But it sucks why?
