I decided to pull an all-nighter and I'm bored. So this is what I came up with.

BTW... don't ask about the all-nighter.. its complicated...

The Basics
- Don't pop them. It's simple really. Don't touch them. There is no good way to pop pimples.
- Toothpaste doesn't belong on your face. Use benzoyl peroxide instead.
- Eat healthy. Drink water. Exercise. You'll notice the difference after a week.
- Use products with salicylic acid if you have acne-prone skin.
- Tea tree oil is great. You can use it straight from the bottle (100% tea tree oil) or mixed in with products (a shampoo that contains tea tree oil)
- Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque is supposed to work wonders. It isn't sold where I live though.

Popping pimples
Yeah, I said you shouldn't. But you will anyway. Heck, I will too. Here is a technique suggested by karamelle:

QUOTE
boil some water. get a towel, put your face over the pot and the towel over your head, to keep the steam in. do this for about 10 minutes. (it feels so good!) Now before you do all that, get a clean wash rag and soak it in warm water. let it soak while you do your little steam bath. When you finish, and I mean as soon as you finish, get that rag, and cover your 2 index fingers with it. place your finger tips besides the pimple, not on top, and push straight into your skin. dont push towards the pimple, that can cause all the ickies to go further into your skin. So sit there and be patient with it. If nothing happens after a few tries, dont force it. Go under the steam again, and soak your rag again. come back, and use the other side of the rag. push INTO your skin, a few times more. if it still doesnt work, leave it alone. try it again tomorrow. whatever you do, dont force it. And dont use your bare hands. that just puts more oil on your face that you would have started with.

Acne Scars
- Vitamin E oil can be applied to scars to slowly decrease the visibilty of acne scars.
- Tea tree oil can also be applied to the scars. If you're using the pure oil, it's got a really strong smell to it. Most people don't like it but m'eh, I don't mind it.
- Emu (yes, the bird) oil. It's proven to help with almost every skin problem out there.
- Sea buckthorn seed oil helps a bit too.
- Scar-zone is a product used for scars. It can be found in places like Walgreens, CVS, etc.

Hair and Acne
Chances are if you have bangs you probably get pimples where your bangs are. Your hair gets oily after a bit, and the oil from the hair clogs up the pores on your face causing pimples. Try shampooing with products that contain tea tree oil.

Cleansing your face
-Make sure you clean your face everyday! Even though it may not seem dirty, it is. Be careful though, don't clean your face too much. When you clean your face, you are stripping it of oil. The more you clean your face the more oil glands will work to produce oil. Some people wash their faces so much they think that their skin is oily, when it actually isn't. They're just putting their oil glands into overtime.
-It is said you should wash your face morning and night, but if you really do have oily skin, the maximum times you should wash your face is thrice daily.
-If you have acne prone skin, use products that contain salicylic acid. It helps break down blackheads and whiteheads and prevents clogged follicles.
- Benzoyl peroxide releases oxygen to help kill bacteria. It also helps breakdown blackheads and whiteheads.
- You're suppoesd to use salicylic acid in the morning, and benzoyl peroxide at night.
- Be Gentle. Don't over do the medication.
- Make sure you MOISTURIZE after washing your face!
- Don't use bar soaps! I'm not sure why, but it's something like theres a residue that gets left on your face even after rinsing, which can lead to pimples. MAN! I wish I knew that before I went out and bought Clinique. pinch.gif
Try products like: Cetaphil, Clearasil, or Clean and Clear.
QUOTE(01b4byy @ Apr 25 2005, 7:26 PM)
You can use Rubbing Alcohol also. I tried it.. it doesnt like.. make ur pimple go away.. buh it makes it go away faster in combination with whatever product you use. Just use a q-tip or cotton ball.. and put it in rubbing alcohol.. and lik jus place it on ur pimple.

QUOTE(sunissed14127 @ May 4 2005, 7:39 PM)
This is really great. One tip: If you are willing to splurge, make an appointment at a Clinique counter.....If will help so much. The Clinique lady will give you a total make over, tell you how to take care of your slin, what skin type you are, and all that good stuff. She'll tell you what kind of facial things you need too. My package cost me about $35 dollars, and it works GREAT!!!
*

Moisturizing
- If you have oily skin, use a light moisturizer. (I currently use L'Oreal Hydraclear for oily skin)
- Usually moisturizers for oily skin are more like gels rather than lotions.
- If you have dry skin, use a product like Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion. It's REALLY moisturizing. =)
- If you have normal skin, use a moisturizer designed for.. well.. normal skin!

Acne on the body
Unfortunately some of us have acne on our backs. Use a loofah (or something like it) to exfoliate with. Pour some medicated body wash (like Neutrogena Body Clear Body Scrub) and scrub scrub scrub. I'm testing this out, I'll tell you how it goes. ;)

The End
No matter what, no one will be able to help you more than a dermotologist. Look one up. I'm sure s/he'd help you a lot, and give you medication (retin-a, differin etc.) if you needed it.

P.S. I didn't write all of this, just think of me as someone who gathered information and put it all in one spot. I haven't tried all of this either. So don't blame me if the results aren't what you intended. If you have any questions, ask them... and I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

And feel free to post stuff that I can add to this.

Great. Now I need to find something else to occupy my time with....

Well I agree that you shouldnt pop your pimples, but let it be said that there is a technique of doing it if you have one you just cannot stand. Its a little involved tho. boil some water. get a towel, put your face over the pot and the towel over your head, to keep the steam in. do this for about 10 minutes. (it feels so good!) Now before you do all that, get a clean wash rag and soak it in warm water. let it soak while you do your little steam bath.

The popping pimples thing... i just learned that from experience. I tried what karamelle suggested already.. but it still turned into a scar. So I just said not to pop them at all. Its a hard habit to break though.

And to spiritedfreak, it's up to you if you believe what I wrote or not.

Id' just like to add sometihng:

-eating healthy works awesome, and I know you alreayd said that but I jsut wanna say that chocolate in particular gives me pimples. I know it sounds like a myth, but it happens to my dad too, aroudn christmas and easter when I eat ALOT of chocolate I really notice the pimples come, ti could be jsut because chocolate has alot of calories and fat but I really think it has soemtihng to do with whats in the chocolate itself because I don't nocite alot of pimples when I'm jsut pigging out on mcdonalds or something.

anyways, awesome tips thumbsup.gif

You are correct!

I know this is a womans locker but i was scrollin around to burn some time and im also prescribed these medications by my family doctor to reduce the breakouts.

Damn i really dont care that much cause drinking lots of fluids can help just as much to hydrate your body. (Hydrating your body also helps reduce zits)

So chug it all up!

omg this helps argghh!! pimples!!

Posted by: x_signhere Apr 27 2005, 03:20 AM

mmmm... that steam bath sounds so good. I can't wait to try it.

I still don't know what to do exactly about my oily skin, but since the breakouts went away when I left it alone... I'm hoping the oil will too.

Posted by: kryzcoak47luv666 Apr 30 2005, 11:10 AM

whoa that really helps alot I have really bad acne, but for me it's too late, I have so many scars, well hope for the future, thx chica

Posted by: kimmie2204 Apr 30 2005, 04:51 PM

omg i hate pimples........i use to get them so bad when i was in highschool.....but i started using this stuff called proactive......it works pretty well and like it doesn't really make my skin dry or anything.........since i've been using it.....i haven't had much trouble with those nasty buggers! but i've tried tons of stuff.......someone once told me to put a little bit of toothpaste on them and they will like dry out and the pimple will go away...........i think thats an urban myth cuz it didn't work for me!

Posted by: prettylotus Apr 30 2005, 07:39 PM

pimples are the worst... i usually pop my on purpose or by accident( my face towel scratches/pops the pimples)... I use Clearasil and Olay Face Cleanser thing... I don't have that many pimples. My brother on the other hand has acne; it's really gross... My aunt is getting him Proactive thingy... But even though I don't have that many pimples, my face is all dry... Then again, I haven't been using the Clearasil or Olay... whistling.gif hehe

Posted by: miss barnes May 2 2005, 09:24 PM

ohhh this is really helpful. my acne isnt too bad but, my problem is the the scars. i'm black and kinda light skinned so poppin the pimples leads to black scars. the acne isnt what bothers me. its the scars. now i know what i can use for it...

Posted by: mypaperheart__x3 May 2 2005, 11:17 PM

wow thanx for the tips!

Posted by: AngelTears May 4 2005, 03:00 PM

You say not to pop them..

But actually mine go away a lot faster if I get all the crap out of them then wash my face...

Just saying.. ^^

Posted by: Yufoo May 4 2005, 03:27 PM

Good advice. But it's hard for me to stop eating junk food, hehe.

Posted by: die_my_darling7 May 4 2005, 04:33 PM

years ago i saw on tv that you should take qtips and use those to pop your zits. i think i may have done it like once or twice. idk, i'd rather just leave them be because everytime i've gone to pop them they look way worse then before i messed with them.

Hey Witchhazel also works. Its works quickly depending on how much you use. Also though be fore warned that using it in excess can dry out your skin. you should be able to get witchazel in the section you would normally find rubbing alcohol and peroxide. Believe me it really does work, just be sure to mosturize after your done messing with the witchhazel. Its a natural astringent which is great.!!!!!

Also guys, if you have serious acne, then go get it checked out by a doctor cause they can give you medication to fix it. I did before it was too late and now mines going away, but i know people that hvaent and their faces are scarred for life. Acne is an actual disease in your system and medication can get rid of it.

Monkeys ate my mastercard.

Ill give you a goddamned priceless moment!

Wow! That was really helpful! Haha. Looks like *SOMEONE* has a lot of spare time. *cough cough* biggrin.gif Heehee. Yeah, the oil in your skin is supposed to keep your face 'moisturised' (sp??) and when you take the oil out, the oil glands just make more and more oil, so it's really bad. happy.gif I feel so smart. laugh.gif
Good job. ^.^

Me too. I have the same problem with chocolate. Apparently, people don't believe me and it annoys the heck out of me. It doesn't happen to them, but at least one person out of 6 billion+ will suffer from it.

Does anyone know which products that are good have benzoyl peroxide in them? I don't want anything too costly either.

Thanks for writing this. It's very useful!

I had this totally huge problem with getting acne on my back. I just started getting it at the end of last summer and now I can’t get it to go away. I used to be fine cause ya know, long sleeves, shirts that cover everything, sweat shirts, jackets. Yeah, all that. But now it's summer time again and its time for bathing suits and tank tops etc. etc.

I went to my doctor because I had a lung infection and needed to get that checked out and when I went I started asking how I get my acne to go away on my back. This wasn't any special doctor, just my regular visit when you are sick doctor, nothing fancy. I was asking about products such as ProActive and if it worked well. She said it works for some people and others it doesn't. Then she subscribed me a prescription for, I believe, Benzyl Peroxide (If that's spelled right) and to use it every day in the shower and scrub it with a loufa (sp?) sponge. You can buy the loufa sponge anywhere, I think. I got mine with a handle at the end so it was easy to scrub, at Bed Bath and Beyond. Well, I've been using the product for maybe a month now? My back has cleared up so much.

Even if you don’t have the product the doctor prescribed me, you should still scrub. She told me this is a more common problem with girls than boys because girls use conditioner and most guys don't. She said that conditioner is very greasy, which I already knew, and when you shower the grease from the conditioner gets into your pores and that also starts the acne.

So mainly - Scrub your back in the shower every day whenever you shower AND SPECIALLY after a sport or day where you are sweating a lot.

Hope that helping anyone, I'm at school now in a free period for class, so I don't know my products exact name but I'll try to edit it in when I get home. Take it easy !!!

wow, thanxx. I have a habit of poppin pimples...luckily no scars, woo [[=. i member the first time i used tea tree oil. wow, do I regret usin as much as I did, it burned my eyes. It still does, but not as much. TIP:: it helps if you hhide your face in a towel for a bit after using the oil if your eyes are sensitive. Then use eyedrops. That's what I do...and it helps

i heard that it is best if you use your cleanser in the shower with the water off. It stays in your skin longer. Then use an astringent immediately after showering because that's when your pores are open the widest. Also masks can be used to shrink pores.

Posted by: xMiZziexKiMx Jun 18 2005, 12:55 PM

wow this is rly helpful! thanks a lot!! and i heard that you should wash your face with warm water cuz it helps open up the pores on ur face and take out the dirts or something like that

Hair and Acne
Chances are if you have bangs you probably get pimples where your bangs are. Your hair gets oily after a bit, and the oil from the hair clogs up the pores on your face causing pimples. Try shampooing with products that contain tea tree oil.

that is not true. i have ance and bangs, and my dermatologist says that there is not much of an effect. I suppose if you barely ever washed your hair or something, then maybe that could contribute.

lol. sounds like something my mom will say too. My family is really into popping and basically picking at your face.. it basically just spreads the bacteria around.. instead i find that the main ingredients of many skin care products are aroudn the household things.. like alcohol for oily skin will absorb the oil but may over dry it and baking powder and alcohol water will mix you a good batch of pasty blackhead remover.. next time before you splurge on $$$$ costly cleansers etc. match up the ingredients with something not so costly =)

i agree dont pop pimples ... but to prevent them you can put your face over boiling water and put a towel over your head so the steam will stay and do that for 15 minutes and go take a shower ... it opens up your pores which supposedly will decrease the chance of new pimples from forming

Here's a note about the "bacne" (acne on the back):
DON'T use a loofah. It traps the dirt and all the nasty oils and all other nastiness and just places it/rubs it ALL on your back..(blech)

Theres a ton of stuff you can buy to help pimples at grocery stores and stuff, and believe me, I've tried them all.
The Best Thing From The Grocery Store:
STRIDEX ;; Most def. I did it 3 or 4 times a day, but it dries out your skin way easily. So you need a mosturizer. And its cheap.

I bought something from the doctor, not a prescription or anything, but yea.
Maybe your doctor has something? And It worked well. It was maybe $10.

And all those adds for Proactiv? NOT FAKE. I used it 3 times, and noticed a difference. The size of the pimpples decreased, didn't completley go away yet though. And then one night, I didn't use it ONCE, and I noticed I started breaking out again. So, it's worth the money, but just you have to do it constantly.

Those are some things I know worked well from experience, just so you don't have to wase a ton of money trying everything from everywhere.

I know there isn't a scientifically proven conection between chocolate and pimples, but trust me when I say that I get them a lot from eating chocolate. What bothers me is that some people refuse to believe me. Blah blah blah, chocolate doesn't cause pimples and some crap like that. Really annoys me. They wouldn't know unless it happened to them, know whould they?

Yeah, so I use a lot of stuff. I eat Homeopathic medicine for healthy, clear skin. It somewhat helps, although I can't really pinpoint anything right now. I use a lot of stuff like I said.

If you can get it, use that oil-control soap from Pears.

Posted by: De112 Dec 29 2005, 05:47 PM

chocolate could just be a minor allergic reaction to you..

Posted by: mona lisa Dec 29 2005, 10:16 PM

Nah, I don't get rashes or anything.
In fact, I'm not allergic to anything.

Posted by: Spiritual Winged Aura Dec 30 2005, 03:22 AM

Thanks mona lisa for the details. I'm starting to eat more chocolate because i miss sweets ever since i obtained my braces in January. Darn it. No wonder, i got plenty of pimples.

Posted by: Anime_gurl_4eva Jan 8 2006, 12:52 AM

this helped a lot.
what i found worked the absolute best, is to wash your face once in the morning, once at night, with a regular bar of soap (preferably Dove). it works sooo well, its cleanses your skin leaving it soft too!

Posted by: guilinger123 Jan 24 2006, 11:37 PM

I have this pimple cream that's also a mosturizer, and it works on zits... biggrin.gif

Posted by: swimgirlarc Mar 23 2006, 11:55 PM

Here's just a list of what works for me

I used to have severe acne, but now i'm totally clear!! thanks to alot of different things i've tried...it works for me, but maybe not everyone

*Hot rags work for me, but i heard it causes more scarring. I also found putting an icecube on it works very well, but only when its ready to pop. If its like white, but not ready to pop, i put a small dab of benzyl peroxide just on the pimple and that seems to bring it out.

*i've gone on a low carb diet recently, and i've noticed a dramatic change in my skin. Its so much clearer!! i only get breakouts when i have my period, when i'm under stress, or if i eat a piece of cake or something with high sugar content...even fruit juice (that stuff's actually supposed to be bad for you). Yeah i'm a swimmer, and after every swim meet, i get break outs from the stress.

*the dermotologist perscribed for me the following
~anitbiotics-worked for a little, but i built up a resistance and came back eventually
~birth control pills-miracle pill, it got rid of the worst of it, but i was still getting a few break outs here and there...they just weren't huge cysitc ones like i've had before
~differin-i works very well, but made my skin super dry

*now that my skin is clear, i just use purpose face wash, and sylacylic (sp?) acid cream on my face or Klaron (perscribed...sulphur based)

*if i use moisurizer, i make sure it has a little sylacylic acid

*benzyl peroxide is good for a little are of black heads or a big zit, but i wouldnt recommend using it all over the face. #1 it dries it out horribly #2 it bleaches clothing and hair (my bed sheets are all bleached thanks to it) #3you can build a resistance to it, so you'll eventually have to use more and more

[color=#FF0000]ok ladies.
the trick to popping that big white ominous volcano on your face is to get a eye dropper. wash your face, and after get that eye dropper and suck it on top pf the head,if it sucks out the puss, then good,if not, then you might want to steam more or pick it off with tweezers. I also bought a pimple popper in the scissors, nail file section it has tow holes in the ends of different whopper pimple sizes, that way you applay even pressure around the head and press down with it to force the puss out. and it leaves less scarring since it is equal pressure and you arent making your fingers squish it huger.
hope that helps. the eye dropper really is a nifty trick. jsut make sure you wash your tools afterwards,so you dont spread the volcanic ash around. lol
for a quick pimple cleaner upper, try the benzoil at night,i use the tinted at day too a little and the sicilic acid is just too greasy for me,i work outside.
Also try this stuff on ebay,it in a big bottle, its zit zapper, works great.
good luck.

to get tanner off,try bleach.
and for color on hands
and also try the mens oil grease mechanic remover stuff. works good too. or
turpentine.

i get back acne most of the time. i've gotten rid of mine though happy.gif
here's some tips:
-- use a loofah or something like a loofah and wash your back.
-- wear clean tops everyday. since its summer, you tend to sweat more.
since sweat is the "dirt" in your body, it can get trapped back in through your pores.
-- if you have long hair, wash it daily or everyother day! or tie your hair up.
like the bangs, your hair gets oily everywhere. so if you have long hair,
the hair might touch your back or something and the oil will get into your pores!

-- wash all the soap off your back!
-- if you wear tight shirts, once in awhile switch to a regular tshirt or a tank top.
and that's about it. i washed my back regularly for a week and it cleared up so much! thumbsup.gif

Never use rubbing alcohol! It strips the natural oils from your skin. Very very bad!!!

Also, Benzoyl peroxide is always good to use. However, it's best to use a lower concentration percentage. Especially if you haven't use it before, use a 2.5 or lower. It may dry your skin out, so yeah use small amounts and allow your skin to get use to it.

btw, proactiv works really well.

Posted by: Teenage Mutant Ninja Meg Aug 1 2006, 10:39 PM

popping pimples is b-a-d.
i use a tea tree oil facial scrub and moisturizer from the body shop.
i also use proactiv regularly, and i wash my face with a daily clean and clear scrub when i have my shower.

if you wanna get rid of your acne, i'd try neutrogena on-the-spot acne treatment. it's cheap, under $10 i'm sure, it doesn't aggravate your skin much like other treatments can and it's available pretty much @ every drugstore. i've tried like EVERYTHING including dermatologist prescribed creams and this is the only thing that works so well for me. in fact, i don't have a single pimple on my face anymore, and i haven't even broken out once since it worked on me.

one thing to know about benzyol peroxide (the stuff in the neutrogena on-the-spot acne treatment creams) is that you should never use the 10% kind. always use stuff with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide because it has been proven scientifically that 2.5% concentration of benzyol peroxide is just as effective as the 10%, AND the 10% benzyol peroxide irritates/dries out your skin way way more anyways.

has anybody else tried it? it's soooo good i swear...

Posted by: Spiritual Winged Aura Sep 9 2006, 05:29 AM

^
I did. I'm currently using it. I still get pimples though but not much. at least, i dont have any major acne problems at this point.

i have an oily t-zone on my face. it's really annoying because it had the most pimples and scars there (a few pimples .. but alot of weird bumbs). i cant do anything about it. i just have to watch out the heat that produces more oil + sweats.

proactiv is a ripp off its just benzyl peroxide but over priced and commercially advertised. you can get the exact same thing at an eckert for 1/60th the cost

Benzoyl Peroxide, is bad for you. It irritates your skin, and makes you break out more. -_- I've been using it for a while now, and I can see that my skin is really red and tearing apart, so I stopped using it.
