Do you all think that Germany should have been blamed for the FIRST (1) World War? Why?

No. Gravrilo Princep should be blamed. Research him a bit and you'll find out why.

Exactly. The us just assisted the British. I think they sould take full blame. WHo else could have done anything?! They were the ones who invaded belguim and started the war. Austria-Hungary was the cause of the war. I don't know what history class you're taking, but it's not right. |

Austria-Hungary was the cause of the war. I don't know what history class you're taking, but it's not right. I agree. But imo, if it wasn't for Germany's instigations between austira-hungary and serbia, their disregard for other countries' well being and safety, and their unrestricted submarine warfare, the war wouldn't have involved so many nations to even be considered a "World War." |

I agree. Germany didn't start it, but they definitely didn't help anybody. It would have stayed one of Europe's many little outbreaks if Germany wasn't such a dick about the whole thing. |

I don't think they should be blamed, nor do I thin they should have been punished as much as they were. Maybe if they weren't ordered to pay for the reconstruction of the allies then they would have never been desperate enough to put Hitler to power. Thus evading another world war.

You know I'm here waiting for you I'm just a cross-hair I'm just a shot away from you And if you leave here You leave me broken shattered, I lie I'm just a cross-hair I'm just a shot, then we can die I know I won't be leaving here With you |

He was pretty manipulative in seeking vengeance, but I wouldn't blame him entirely. I wouldn't entirely blame one person, but I brought him up for a couple of reasons.- It's no secret that he wanted Germany to be viewed as a powerful country, but I think it's tough to say whether or not he wanted to achieve this with or without conflict. I'd like to say that he wanted to make Germany a world power without conflict, but then I'd have no way to explain why he worked to increase and mobilize the German military. For the record, I would not want to actually be able to say that. - He urged Austria-Hungary to attack Serbia as a way of revenge for the assassination of the archduke, which resulted in Britain, France, and Russia joining the war. - He simply did not know how to control the military that he built up. I suppose one could argue that this helped the allied countries. - He left Germany in a desperate state which lead to the rise of Hitler (who Wilhelm actively supported, even though Hitler was angry at him for "failing" Germany) and we all know what happened when Hitler didn't get into art school... |

Why do I feel like half the people in this thread have never taken a history class?
