WHAT IS IT FOR?
We'd like to thank our most contributive members (you!) by offering you a free web hosting package so that you can start your own website (or switch over to us for free if you already have one). All you need is 25+ approved layouts submitted to CB.

WEBHOST SPECS
-5GB Disk Space
-50GB Monthly Traffic
-Unlimited MySQL DBs
-Unlimited Email Accounts
-Unlimited FTP Accounts
-Unlimited Subdomains
-http://x3demob.cpx3demo.com:2082/login/?user=x3demob&pass=x3demob
-Dedicated IP
-PHP 5, MYSQL 5, APACHE 2
-99.9% Uptime Guarantee

I've set aside a dedicated server just for this purpose so load times will always be very low. The specs for the server is: Dual xeon dual core 2.8 GHz, 2GB ram, SCSI 10k Hard drives.

SO WHAT'S THE CATCH?
There is no catch! All you need is 25+ approved layouts submitted to CB to take advantage of this offer! You don't need to be an Official member / designer or staff member. It's completely free and ad-free! Best of all, you get complete control of your website, from cpanel to ftp to website stats. All we ask is that you link back to createblog.com.

SO HOW DO I GET STARTED?
PM me with your domain name (you must own it, if you don't have one, get one at godaddy.com) and your contact email (to send you for account info). If you don't own a domain name, you can opt for a subdomain on bloghead.com (ie micron.bloghead.com). Setup time is 3 days. Cheers!

If you have friends who make excellent layouts, please pass this along!

Posted by: Relentless Apr 14 2008, 11:55 PM

Jusun, there is a typo. xD You firstly stated 35+ approved layouts then you say 40+ approved layouts.

This is pretty awesome btw.

Posted by: micron Apr 15 2008, 12:00 AM

oh thanks. i lowered it to 25+ layouts. =D

Posted by: marielamuneka Apr 15 2008, 12:07 AM

What if the 25+ layouts are real bad, and ugly yet good enough for createblog(like it meets the terms) it should be like 25+ well coded/designed layouts.. or something. what if people abuse that and try and add a whole lot of layouts just to get webhosting here.. ermm.gif im just thinkin maybe some people would try to do that..and exactly who is going to be making/setting up who gets it..you or the admins and staff? just curious. good ass idea though. clap.gif

Posted by: micron Apr 15 2008, 12:10 AM

^ i think 25+ is reasonable. i want a figure that's reachable, yet require some time and effort to reach. to answer your question: ill be setting up the hosting accounts, but after that, its up to the user to set up his / her website through ftp and / or cpanel. cb is running on several servers, and it just so happens that we have a lot of space + bandwidth to spare. =D

Posted by: marielamuneka Apr 15 2008, 12:14 AM

Oh yeah i know 25+ layouts is very reasonable..but im talking about the quality of the layout someone could be more than qualified by having 50+ layouts(just saying) but what if those arent that good..they look ugly basically. are there gonna be specific terms against the type of look your layouts should be..like how they cant look wack or something?

like;

no direct linking.. no uploading alot of audio and images on it..
because ive heard it takes up to much space and the person who hosts you doesnt like it.. idk. mellow.gif

Posted by: Relentless Apr 15 2008, 12:15 AM

Just a question. What happen if they don't get their site set up in time or not at all? Should there be a time frame in order to get the site up for like a couple weeks?

Posted by: SkyliteX Apr 15 2008, 12:18 AM

dude this is awesome, but I already have a site,

dang it :/
but hopefully people will stop asking about best WEb host provider from now on :]

Posted by: micron Apr 15 2008, 12:19 AM

^ oh, im sure our staff members will notice if someone is submitting crappy layouts just to take advantage of this feature. also, staff members can reverse their original decision to reject an approved layout. i guess what ill do is before setting up the hosting account, ill review their layouts to see if its up to par, and if not, prune their layouts to more closely reflect our standard of quality.

but once they recieve their hosting account, unless they decide to pull all their layouts, it will be a lifetime account. it would only be fair this way, so that those who already benefit from this offer will be immune from future pruning of our database, which happened a couple of times in the past.

Posted by: marielamuneka Apr 15 2008, 12:23 AM

Oh ok thanks! good idea

Posted by: ScriptedLove Apr 15 2008, 02:21 PM

This is so cool and great. I've wanted my own site for years now... freewebs recently made their site ad crazy and co.nr is blah.
Its a shame that i just got here though. ugh... -___-
How long will this free hosting last?

Posted by: micron Apr 15 2008, 05:18 PM

^ until cb's gone (forever maybe?). =)

Posted by: paperplane Apr 15 2008, 08:53 PM

On the subject of how long things are going to last, you don't have any intention of getting rid of the old cbstaff subdomains, do you?

Posted by: micron Apr 15 2008, 09:37 PM

^ nope. cbstaff.com is here to stay. =)

Posted by: Melie Apr 15 2008, 10:17 PM

this is awesome! i'm definitely going to work on getting my own domain!!

Posted by: Just_Dream Apr 16 2008, 01:41 AM

Oh the note of cBstaff, Just wondering, what were the specifications (space, bandwidth) of that? I can't remember. Feel free to PM me if that information should not be divulged in this thread.

Posted by: micron Apr 16 2008, 01:55 AM

cbstaff.com is located on a different server, and space is more constricted. you start off with 100mb but more is possible upon request and justification. as for bandwidth, its unlimited. but keep in mind that cbstaff.com subdomains should only be used for personal purposes. for the hosting account, its unrestricted and you're free to do whatever you want as long as it isn't illegal.

Posted by: synkro Apr 16 2008, 02:12 AM

humhumhumhum... this is interesting. hopefully it will help spawn even better cb layouts ';P it's a good incentive for the uninspired ;]

Posted by: 1angel3 Apr 16 2008, 06:49 PM

OMG I wish I could afford a domain.

Posted by: digitalfragrance Apr 17 2008, 05:18 PM

I guess I'll have to get myself a domain name :]

Posted by: pandora Apr 17 2008, 05:52 PM

Maybe domain names can be like a prize for future contests... (and maybe free hosting too?)

I just think we need better incentive for people to participate in contests etc.

Posted by: 1angel3 Apr 17 2008, 06:05 PM

QUOTE(doublehelix @ Apr 17 2008, 03:21 PM) *
Can't you get it for free some places? :\ if not it only costs like $3 something.

I'm not sure. But I don't have a credit cared and I can't figure out paypal.

If you find a place tell me please!

I would take advantage of the free hosting if I submitted my layouts, but I havn't created a myspace layout in the longest time, maybe this would give me the kick i need XD.gif

yeah i dont submit myspace layouts anymore for a reason.. they're a pain in the ass.

you can always submit regular website layouts :D

My cbstaff subdomain is PHP capable, so I'm assuming yes.

Posted by: elrene06 Apr 20 2008, 03:28 PM

Ok, my question is, what if i have submitted over 5 pages of script (good unique scripts) and many Photoshop tutorials.

can people get the free webhosting for this??
(thats in my case)

Contests, here I come! :]

Posted by: addictedlysick Apr 21 2008, 12:36 AM

is there a deadline for this thingy? :D

Posted by: Tungster Apr 21 2008, 02:04 AM

Can I just send you $500 via Paypal and get like 20% ownership of this site?

Oh, haha, I already have a subdomain. I kinda want a domain so that I can maybe set up a network for a personal portfolio. Stuff like that :]

But the offer sounds tempting, even with the subdomain and stuff. :D

Posted by: micron Apr 21 2008, 06:57 PM

^ hmm. but i bet you dont get a control panel with your subdomain. with ours, you'll get cpanel 11 to control every aspect of your site.

here's a demo:

is sitename.com/pagename allowed? What are those called?

Posted by: micron Apr 21 2008, 09:05 PM

Whoa-ho..... that looks really cool. Kind of intimidating, but cool. XD I actually don't know anything about CPanel, or how it's different from FTP. >_< I think I need to read up on stuff.

That's usually how it works. You buy the domain, someone else provides the hosting.

Lol, so how much do you actually pay weekly? Do you even make profits? What if I paid $2000 for 1/5 ownership of this site, and then contribute $500 every two week. 20% ownership ain't that much. thumbsup.gif

Posted by: micron Apr 22 2008, 12:42 AM

so for less than the amount it costs to run cb for a month, you want to buy 20% of cb?

sorry, cb isn't for sale. rolleyes.gif

I'm in the process of getting a domain name, this is such a great offer so I would like to thank createBlog for this opportunity.

Posted by: carataylor Apr 22 2008, 08:54 PM

This sounds awesome!
But I don't do layouts, I do stock photos. I havn't got them up yet as I'm waiting on a new digital camera to arrive. But once I start getting up alot of my photography would you consider free hosting for me?
I really need my own personal site where I can display my stuff.
But it's up to you :)

It's ragingtimes.org

i dont plan to sell hosting plans.

you can always switch host (especially since its free). the dedicated server is only being used for this hosting offer and quite powerful - dual xeon dual core 2.8ghz, and the network superb (the dc where it is located is one of the largest + reliable in us). plus you can cpanel.

Posted by: micron Apr 24 2008, 11:35 AM

updated original post with bloghead.com subdomain option. if you dont own a domain, you can opt for a bloghead.com subdomain (ie micron.bloghead.com).

Technically, you don't have to know php and mysql in order to set up a website. It's handy, but not necessary.

Cause i want to know if I have to work really hard to get to 25.

But 12$ a yr is a great deal!

Also can I like switch the domain being hosted at any time?

like if i have two registered domains can I have one hosted by cb for a year and then like switch it?
