Ok so Social Security. An amount of money taken out of your paychecks so that when you get old you have some money.

Ok so here's the debate:
Should Social Security be cut?

Ok so for my opinion Social Security was never meant to be permenant so its about time to get rid of it. Ok and for those people that have already be working for a while and have had money taken out the government should just right them a check now not when they are old. Because you will not live long enough to see all the money that was taken from you.

Yep, social security is a crock of shit. It's an enormous pyramid scheme... if what Madoff did was illegal, then the government should REALLY be in trouble.

Considering we've only covered one aspect of social security, I don't feel that any of this is valid. We need to bring in the other areas that it applies to among our society. If not, how can you say we should remove SS from our government?

According to Wikipedia, Social Security in the United States currently refers to the federal Old-Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) program.

While growing up my father passed away when I was four. I was raised by a single mother with three kids. Leaving other factors out, social security has helped pay my way through school, medical, dental, and other expenses that she would have not been able to pay for on her own. Now, I have never been an advocate for SS, but I do see the benefits of this program.

Considering the fact that I see most people on here that lift up Socialism, how is it that you do not stand behind Social Security?

Maybe because Social Security is unsustainable?

Sure, there is some good the comes out of it. But if good comes out of a bank robber donating half of his loot to charity, should we encourage bank robberies?

I think it should be reformed, but not cut.

What about those that have retired, or are disabled, and rely on social security for their income?

That's the unfortunate thing; the government has made us dependent on it. Talking about cutting it is not a politically expedient thing to do since everyone panics when they think all the old people are gonna get cut off.

But the cold hard fact is that social security is not a sustainable program, and given our current situation, we really can't afford to keep something that's going to be losing us money every year. With or without social security, there won't be enough money to pay for everything that the old and disabled need. The only difference is, with social security, everyone is feeling the pain.

If only there were some way of slowly phasing it out.

With the current administration.... fat chance.... I shouldn't even need to elaborate on that.

Nope.. instead we should cut Obama's head off for treason. Along with all the bank owners, specifically Bank America and Citi. Also the heads of the Federal Reserve. thumbsup.gif

ok great, and after all that is done we're still going to have to figure out what to do with social security. cutting off people's head doesn't magically solve the issue of how to fix the social security system.

There is no fix for social security. When you have Federal Reserve willing to sell our gold to China.. trust me, you can forget anything that would benefit the American citizen.

well the question of the debate is should we cut social security. i would assume if you think there is no fix, you'd say yes we should get rid of social security. instead you said "nope" and that instead of cutting it would should cut off people's heads. so i don't get if you're saying we should keep social security or not since you're saying two different things at once.

No... we should NOT get rid of SS. There's nothing wrong with it.. but now that we're in this ridiculous debt, more than likely SS will be rid of.

there would be problems with it even if we weren't in debt. the problem is what kryo already said, it's not currently sustainable. we're going to be paying out more benefits than we have workers to cover them. the smaller generation behind the baby boomers has to pay for the entire baby boom generation. the deficit is the problem because of the sheer number of people we're gonna have to support. debt just makes the bad situation worse.

on a side note, just think how much SS that couple trillion we've spent in iraq could have payed.

ok so think if they cut it, and as i said before they just write everyone checks for the money they have already had taken out. So many people would just spend money left and right, that could get the economy flowing again. RIght now so many people are just keeping their money, thats why the economy is pretty much at a stand still. Ok also if SS were cut old people would not be living at long as they are...and i'm not trying to be mean but if you have to choose between food and meds you should choose the food, you're already old you should just go. (that sounded kind of mean lol)
