tell me what art classes you have taken, i wanna know.

I took 2-D Studio Art in high school. I wish I could take a figure drawing class or something artsy (besides art humanities bc that doesn't count), but at the rate my pre-med and neuro requirements are going, I wont have time for any of that until senior year (if even).

I've never taken a hardcore art class, but...

- A drawing and painting class outside of school back when I was maybe 12 years old. It was actually really fun, and I found out how much I loved using charcoal. Though I gave up on it after a little while.
- Art 8. It was required that we take either a visual or performing arts class in our first year of high school.
- Media Arts 9 and 10/11 Honours. Pretty much just filming and editing. And watching movies in class.
- Drafting 9. The teacher was an ass, but it was overall pretty interesting. Taught me how to be super anal when it came to measurements and perfect lines.
- Desktop Publishing 11. We learned how to use Photoshop and design CD covers and business cards... it was a fun class.
- Photojournalism 12. We made our KICK ASS yearbook using InDesign.
- IAT 102 Graphic Design. Learning about typography and grids, and working on Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign... we redesigned magazine layouts, designed packaging for a cylindrical object, and are going to design a smart poster that pays homage to an artistic movement (I'm doing De Stijl).

Studio Art, Visual Communications(1 and 2), Graphic Design, Drawing 1,2 and 3, A portfolio class, another drawing class in college, and i was Vice President for the National Art Society. I also took a drawing and painting class at my local conservatory for a summer. Oh and I also took traditional photography as well. So i basically lived in the art wing most of my high school years.

Figure drawing was included in my Studio Art class and most of my drawing classes. Omg i hated it.

i'm glad this class ended for me, but at the same time it was one of the more useful art classes i've ever taken. i hated it because i had it as a night class.


anyway this semester i'm taking graphic design and art history. only one studio class, that'll screw me over later probably but oh well.

which class are you taking? I took 19th century European art last semester, and am now taking History of Art 2, which is beginning at the Renaissance to modern day (will overlap my last class) :D :D I loves it

i'm taking "survey 2", and took "survey 1" last semester. survey 1 was from cave art and then works up, and we picked up the second semester right now in italy. not to the renaissance yet, but building up to that. so basically i'm taking the same class as you, from a little before renaissance up to modern day. after this then i'll have to pick more specific ones that focus on certain times more, like 19th century european art, which i'll probably take too.

didn't you change your major to art history? i thought i saw that around here somewhere.

I haven't taken any cause I'm already the shiz and don't feel like spending 350 on a class that teaches me what I already know. However, the school requires an art distribution, so I am taking an art history class because I figure that will teach me real sht about artists like Michelangelo and such. I don't know what I want to do with my life just yet, but we'll see if this is the way I want to draw and/or live.

i know a lot of people who say that same thing, that they don't wanna pay for art classes to teach what they already know. i mean i'm an art major so i can't really get around that lol. i need a lot of them though anyway. i don't know what i want to do with my life either. sigh, i ponder this everyday of my life.

I've also taken Web Design 1 and 2 if that counts.

Plus Band, and Advanced string orchestra.

no, you know i hate like 90% of people in my studio classes. most of them don't even have a clue about anything. they think shitty things look good and artsy just because they look like shit. they do dumb and unthoughtful works and in critique make up a bunch of bullshit about it.


i might want to get a master in fine arts and be a professor or something though. i would like to do art education maybe, but only for people who were really into art. or maybe i don't and i only think i want it because i wanna know i'll have a job

I don't think there's anything wrong with getting a degree in art, silly, I just don't think I could do it for four years without killing myself. My teachers at SMU were SOOO pretentious. Like they just like throwing out names because they "knew" them. They'd be like "Oh, this sketch reminds me of so-and-so, do you know who that is? If not, write it down and look it up." JERKS

I'd rather get my degree in art history because it's a lot more objective... And I can become a museum curator or art history teacher XD or dean of a pretentious art school!

Have you thought about going into graphic design or like graphic illustration? Lots more jobs there than fine arts.

yeah, i mean graphic design is "technically" my concentration area right now. i wanna do something like magazine layout design or something like that maybe. packaging design sounds cool to me too. actually any design sounds cool to me as does any fine art. so i never know what i want.

i was so free in high school to do what i wanted in studio art, just because my teacher liked me. i really missed that because most of the time, i hate following instructions or having all pieces look-alike.

has anybody ever woke up one day not being able to draw again? though it could have been just one day, i've never tried again. dropping intro to drawing induced domino effect, and made me depressed since. i'm not saying i was ever any good, but i used to enjoy it a lot.

i don't like following instructions either. half the time you end up doing something you don't even like that much just for the sake of having something to get graded on. that annoys me most.

i'm not a particularly amazing drawer either, but i think i'm alright and i like doing it when it's not forced upon me.

now i enjoy browsing through art created by other people, but nothing has really inspired me to draw again.

Art 1 was the exact same thing as Art 2.... just with different people.

They have a little bit of everything: lithographs, print making, everything.

that one particular day, i felt like i couldn't produce anything great to my satisfaction. it seemed like the beginners advanced over me, which deeply wounded me since. it was frustrating because it's the one thing i thought i was decent at, since i don't excel in any other subjects.

sometimes i would go to class and bust out good drawings constantly. some days i'd go and in the whole three hours i couldn't come up with anything that looked even remotely close to the model we were drawing. everything would just keep going wrong. it's a very frustrating feeling i know what you mean.

The only thing that really ever inspires me to draw anymore is boredom. Because once I start sketching something, the time flies. Otherwise, I prefer to pretend that I am inspired but do nothing about it. :(

I'm just about to graduate with my associates in visual arts, so i've taken quite a few art and art related classes. Figural drawing, yes. A part of me enjoyed it, a part of me hated it. And sometimes drawing the nudes was kinda ackward, ha. But it was an interesting experience, not my favorite thing to do
