Skin Care Tips
Money saver
Hooked on using disposable cleansing cloths or facial wipes for cleaning your face? Since these packages are convenient but costly, take the time to cut each cloth in half when you buy the package. With a little extra effort you gain twice as many cleansing cloths and save some money in the process.

Exfoliate, exfoliate
For a fast, at-home body exfoliation, mix olive oil with sea salt or sugar. Smooth over skin in circular motions all over the body, avoiding the breast area. Rinse off in the shower and apply your favourite moisturizer.

Body brush
Dry brushing your skin before a shower is a great way to stimulate the natural oil glands in your body. Using a natural bristle body brush, start at your feet and lightly “brush” your skin in a circular motion. Follow by a warm shower and slather your body with your favourite moisturizer.

Hand moisturizer
For regular, well-moisturized hands, keep hand cream on your desk at work or in the car. Apply the cream throughout the day to rejuvenate your cuticles and keep skin saturated.

Natural cleansers
Dip into your fridge for facial cleansers when your regular cleanser runs out. In a pinch buttermilk, yogurt and even cream are gentle, natural skin cleansers.

Moisturizer alternative
Instead of using a cream moisturizer after you bath or shower, rub almond oil (available at your local health food store) into your skin for a treat. Combined with a few drops of your favourite essential oil (peppermint, lavender or neroli) it will leave your skin smooth and supple.

Make shaving easier
An easy way to avoid razor burn after shaving is to moisturize beforehand. While shaving cream is the most popular method, try prepping your leg with hair conditioner for a few minutes before shaving. It will hold moisture on the leg longer and provide a very smooth shave.

Tired eye solution
Need to get rid of tired or puffy eyes immediately? Keep a spoon in the freezer and apply to eyelids for a few minutes to reduce redness.

Hair Tips
Hair helper
Interested in trying out sculpting mud for your hair? Make sure you use a minimal amount of product to prevent weighing hair down. A good rule of thumb is to put a little bit on your fingertips and apply to the hair from the back of the head forward.

Hair clean-up
An all-natural way to eliminate shampoo build-up and toxins in your hair is with apple cider vinegar. Rinse your hair once a week with one cup of apple-cider vinegar, found in grocery stores or health stores.

Hair styling fact
Hair sets best as it is cooling, not when it is heated up from blow-drying. Whether using hot rollers or a blow dryer, apply hair spray after hair has cooled to maximize the style.

Salon style hair
Want to achieve that salon style blowout at home? Separate your damp hair into several sections and blow-dry one at a time using a round or paddle brush. Taking the time to focus on each section will give you that overall salon look

Cosmetic Tips
Make-up timeline
To ensure your eyes stay healthy and free of infection when using make-up, heed the following due-date rules. Throw out your mascara after three months, powder eye shadows every nine to 18 months, and cream eye shadows every six to 12 months. Sharpen your eyeliners often to keep them clean.

Mascara mistakes
To avoid mascara flake-off or smudging on your face, apply a thin cost of mascara to top lashes only. Then run an eyelash brush through lashes to prevent clumpy mascara build-up.

Get a rosy glow
Want your face to radiate a healthy glow? Try using a gel blush or cream (instead of powder) in a rosy shade of pink to create a more natural look. Gels or creams are more transparent and blend smoothly – rub it on the apples of your cheek and blend up towards the eye for a glowing complexion.

Minute manicure
Need a fast fix for unpolished nails? File nails into a square shape, buff them to create a bit of shine and apply a clear coat of polish. Next rub in cuticle oil around the edges of the nail and moisturize your whole hand. It takes less than 15 minutes and will give your appearance a polished look.

Brow etiquette
The trend in eyebrows for this season is natural looking, not sparse and skinny. Use a tinted brow definer or eyeshadow to fill in scanty brows.

Fix tired feet
Pamper your tired feet with a luxurious footbath. Fill a basin with warm water and add a few drops of essential oils. Next place marbles or small stones (found at your local garden centre) into the basin. Run your toes and soles of your feet over the marbles, and relax for 15 minutes.

Eye/lip pencil care
Before sharpening your eyeliner or lip pencil, place them in the freezer for 10 minutes. They will harden slightly and not break when sharpened.

Eyeliner hint
Women with deep-set eyes should use liquid liner instead of regular pencil eyeliner, to prevent smudging in the crease of the lid. Liquid liner does not smudge as easily.

Nail polish know-how
Is your nail polish from last season too thick? Chances are the polish has begun to thicken at the bottom of the bottle. Add a bit of nail polish thinner to the bottle to get the maximum use of your nail polish.

Foundation tester
When picking out a concealer or foundation, always test the colour on the inside of your wrist. The skin there is the most unblemished and will give you a good idea of how it will look on your face.

Extend your foundation

Want to extend the life of your foundation and cut down on heavy concealer? Mix a drop of it with your natural moisturizer to create a luminescent look for your skin.

Curl your lashes
Before curling your eyelashes, heat the curler with a hair dryer for a few seconds. Test to make sure it is not too hot, then apply to eyelashes. The heat will lock in the curl on extra long eyelashes.

Foundation secret
Apply foundation to your face AFTER you have done your eye make-up. This helps you to fix any last minute smudging from mascara or eyeliner under the eyes.

Lipstick trick
Love matte lipstick, but feel your dry lips wreck the look? Apply a lip balm to lips before starting your make-up routine. By the time you have done your eyes and rest of the face, your lips will be moisturized and ready for the matte lipstick.

Manicure tip
If you have been sloppy applying nail polish, simply soak nails (when dry) in warm water for a few minutes and then rub off extra nail polish gently with a finger.

Nail Care
Your nails may be craving something - If your nails are weak, splitting, fragile etc, the problem could be traced back to an inadequate water intake.

Most people don't drink nearly enough water. Drink up!

What to do about brittle nails
The most common nail wreckers are harsh detergents and water, which can stress nail fibers. So be sure to put rubber gloves on while you clean or do dishes.

Also, avoid using perfume lotions that usually contain alcohol if your nails are brittle. It will only make your nails worse.

It may be possible that your calcium intake is low, as well.
How To Give Yourself A Manicure

Whether you prefer your nails to be long or short, they can still look stunning with a little know-how.

Wash and dry your hands.
Using a double-sided emery board, file nails using a gentle stroke. Avoid corners of your nails as this can weaken them.
Begin to shape your nails. The most popular shape to use is oval, but choose what is most suited to your hand and finger shape.
Check to see how well you have done. Run your nails over an old pair of pantyhose. Your nails should not snag the hose.
Apply a softener to your cuticles. Allow to site for a minute or so.
Transfer hands to a bowl of warm water and soak for an additional few minutes.
Gently push back the cuticles. This should not be painful. If hangnails are present, carefully clip them.
Apply hand lotion and begin to massage the palm of your hand with the thumb of your other hand. This will help to circulate the blood. Work your way over the remainder of the hand and then repeat giving equal time to the other hand.
Before color is applied to nails, they must be cleaned and the easiest way to do this is with an orange stick that has been wrapped with cotton. Dip into nail polish remover and then rub over the surface of the nail. Check the nail for any creamy residue. When none remains, your nails will be ready for polishing.
Time for color. Pick up a small amount of polish on your brush and paint one stroke down the center of your nail. Your brush should hold just enough color to accomplish this. Stroke the sides of the nail and you are done. The nail should be completely colored in three strokes. Allow to set for a minute or so before applying the second coat.
Wait until polish is set (dry to the touch) and then apply the top coat. Don't skip this step as it not only adds life to your manicure, it will protect your nails as well.
Sanitize all of your equipment with alcohol and when they are dry, store them away until the next manicure.
Nail Tips:
Nail polish can be stored in the fridge.
If your nail polish is too thick, try thinning with a polish thinner.
To prevent the cap from sticking, coat it with a little Vaseline to prevent this from happening

Un Wanted Facial hair
Many women suffer from unwanted facial hair. Often facial hair in women appears first during puberty and then becomes more prolific from the age of 35 +. The main areas it seems to appear are on the lip and chin but many women experience unwanted hair growth on their jaw cheeks and neck area. Worse still is that for some reason, as you get older, so the facial hair seems to get darker and coarser.

Here we list and rate the different solutions for unwanted facial hair in women:

Shaving - Fast cheap and easy method of hair removal, but the hairs grow back very quickly and appear thicker. Not recommended for female facial hair

Bleaching - Bleaching can make dark facial hair less apparent but it can also make it look like you have fur on your face, especially in the sun.

Depilatory creams - Depilatory creams are a kinder method of hair removal, but can be a bit messy to use and some people react to the chemicals and get pimples

Plucking - provides a very clean look to the hair removal site, but it can be painful and time consuming and is often needed daily. Prolonged plucking can damage the skin.

Waxing - provides a very clean look to the hair removal site. It's results are longer lasting than the aforementioned methods, but some skins can be very sensitive to it's harsh action

Electrolysis - You have to be very patient with this one, but if it is done regularly for 1 or 2 years it can result in permanent hair removal

Laser Hair Removal - By far the best method, producing relatively fast permanent results with 6 - 8 sessions, the only downside is the price

Vaniqa - A great cream to use with any of the above hair removal methods because it actually inhibits the growth of new hairs and ensures the results last longer. Vaniqa is expensive but worth it.

Every day find new ways to move your body. Use the stairs rather than an escalator or elevator. Style Tips
Style is the way you put together clothes, not the clothes themselves. There is something to be said for picking clothes you won't get sick of but that feel good.

Unless you don't mind getting rid of certain items every season, stay away from overly trendy pieces when shopping for your basic wardrobe.
Don't pick everything you see in magazines. Pick what looks and feels better on you. This comes with being honest and true to yourself.
Wear what's right for your body type and don't be a slave to fashion
No matter how hoochie koochi you get with Gucci, no matter how breathless you become in a Prada dressing room, no matter how cute a pair of Chanel eyelet hotpants are, if a particular style is unflattering on you, you can look, well, tacky!!!
Your wardrobe should show your personality, not the personality of the store's salesperson.

Clothes say more about you than you can imagine.

Dress Your Personality

Remember-casual doesn't mean sloppy.

Wear layered coordinates-always pulled together with a vest, blazer, or anorak style jacket.

ROMANTIC:

You love being a woman & enjoy lace touches, soft florals, & pearls.

How to Eat

Eat only at the table. Don't munch on the couch or at the kitchen counter.
Don't starve yourself! Skipping meals only tricks your body into thinking its survival is threatened, and it will hold onto its fat stores for dear life.
Eat slowly and chew each bite completely to decrease your appetite.
Eat three small meals and two snacks daily instead of two or three huge meals.
Don't eat anything for the last three or four hours of your day. Once you've had dinner, be done for the night.
Don't eat anything unnecessary. You don't need "all the fixings".
Learn to control yourself at social affairs. Don't use them as an excuse to pig out. Be strong.
Serve yourself normal portions of food. Three ounces of meat or a half cup of rice are plenty in one meal.
Don't nibble on things throughout the day. Some titbits contain hundreds of calories.
Use a smaller plate than usual for dinner. You'll feel like you ate more than you actually did.
Don't work while eating. Separate all of your activities from your meals, so you can concentrate on what and how much you're eating.
Beware of the wall you may hit at 3:00 p.m. Many people feel the urge for a caffeine or sugar lift at this time. Have some fruit or crackers on hand to combat this.
Don't eat a single bite while preparing meals. Chew gum, if it helps.
Never get seconds. Make a habit of stopping after one plate of food.
Put leftovers away immediately to avoid further grazing.
Read labels carefully. Some low fat items are very high in calories.
To slow yourself down, eat with the opposite hand you usually eat with.

How to Stop Food Cravings

Craving chocolate? Eat a banana. It sometimes satisfies the yearning for chocolate and is much less fattening.
Chew sugarless gum. It speeds up the digestive system, burning more calories, and sometimes kills a craving.
Exercise! Your appetite will temporarily subside and you'll feel better about taking such a proactive approach.
Still craving chocolate? Try a magnesium supplement. Many women are deficient in this mineral, which is found in chocolate.
Craving fatty foods? Eat fish, or take a fish oil or flaxseed oil supplement. You may be low in essential fatty acids.
Grab something to drink. Sometimes, cravings for food are really thirst in disguise.
Sweet tooth? Protein, fat and fiber keep blood sugar levels more even and help keep such cravings under control.
Watch your caffeine intake. Caffeine seems to make sugar cravings worse.
If your will power weakens at night, try leaving the lights on until the minute you go to bed. Dimmed lights tend to lower inhibitions.
Turn off the lights in your kitchen and avoid hanging out there.

How to Speed Up Your Metabolism

Don't skip breakfast. You will lose weight more quickly if you have a bite to eat in the morning.
Drink hot water with lemon
Eat hot meals rather than cold. Your metabolism speeds up very slightly when you eat and again if the food is hot.
Do at least thirty minutes of cardiovascular exercise, five days a week. This will condition you to burn fat more efficiently.
Don't deprive your body of carbohydrates, no matter what they say.
You need carbs for energy and will feel terrible without them.
Wear a pedometer and see that you take 1,000 steps every day.
If you have a sit-down job, get up every hour and walk around for five minutes or so.
Dedicate two hours a week to weight training, concentrating on the larger muscles. Every other day is optimal.

Smooth Beautiful Feet

Recipe For Beautiful Feet

Everyone wants to have smooth skin and beautiful feet :-)

If you take 1 cup Lemon Juice, Cinnamon (for smell), 2 tablespoons (or less) olive oil, 1/4 cup of milk, and water you can make a wash that leaves skin refreshed and fragrant (the amount of water does not matter).
If you do not like the cinnamon smell you can replace it with another spice, perfume, or flower petals such as roses.
After you make it, you can put it in a tub were you can soak your feet or body.
Next dry your feet or rinse them with water and a MILD soap.

After a few weeks of doing this your skin will be silky smooth.

A Beautiful Night

All of us want to look young and beautiful. But how many really stay that way? As they say, Rome wasn't built in a day, and if you want to look attractive and fresh, you should follow not just an efficient beauty regime, but also a regular one.
For busy homemakers and corporate executives alike, it is not always possible to maintain a regular beauty regime, unless it is a habitual visit to the nearest beauty salon. Instead of spending money on artificial and expensive treatments, here is a simple schedule to groom yourself naturally. Just before you go to bed, allot a period of ten minutes. Yes, all it takes is just that little time to keep you looking young and glowing.

Foot Care

Feeling terrible after a tiring day? As soon as you return home, soak your feet in a basin of warm water mixed with a handful of fragrant bath salts. After 10 minutes, wash your feet (a simple soap and water wash is sufficient).

If you aren't feeling sleepy by this time, take a foot filer and scrub your heels. Using a toothpick (orange stick) clean the edges and grooves around your toe nails, to remove the dirt that gets accumulated. Apply cold cream or moisturizer before winding up. This will make the skin soft and prevent people from running away at the sight of your feet.

Face Wash/Scrub

Cleansing your face before going to bed is essential to take away the dirt you might have picked up in your day. Walnut scrub is ideal for oily skin. Make sure you scrub your face in circling motions and wash with cold water. For those with dry or sensitive skin can use baby oil or wet cleansing pads, followed by a night cream.

Night Cream/Moisturizing

The right time to apply any treatment, especially moisturizer - be it for whitening the skin, under-eye cream or simple moisturizing. It will revitalize your facial skin and work wonders on skin, which had been exposed to all the dirt and grime in the daytime. It would be a good idea to use it on your arms and neck, too.

Your Hair

While oil is not the elixir of life to hair, it IS essential in keeping it well conditioned and supple. Leave oil overnight and wash in the morning with shampoo to get better results.

Heat a little amount of oil (olive oil, almond oil, or plain old coconut oil) by placing it in a small container and swirling it in hot water. After the oil gets considerably hot, massage the scalp with your fingertips, in rotating motion, for at least 8 - 10 minutes. You can do this while soaking your feet in warm water.

Castor Oil

Applying pure castor oil to your eyebrows and lashes, particularly those who have scanty growth, will make them grow thick and long. For tired or puffed eyes, place a cotton pad soaked in chilled rose water. Keeping thin slices of cucumber ready in the refrigerator beforehand is ideal.

Grated cucumber, by itself or mixed with carrot juice, can be spread under the eye, to reduce black circles and sagging skin.

Lip Guard

And finally, a smear of Vaseline on your lips, and you can sleep like a child and get up like a fairy!

Tips on Acne

What’s Acne?

Acne is a term that’s used to describe whiteheads, blackheads, and pimples. (You may well recognize slang terms like spots, or zits). Most teenagers get the type of acne called acne vulgaris, which can show up on the face, neck, shoulders, back, and chest. Skin pores contain oil glands which naturally lubricate your skin and hair. But sometimes if a pore gets clogged beneath the skin with excess oil and bacteria, the dreaded acne is caused...

Whiteheads happen when a pore gets clogged, closes, and then bulges out. If a pore gets clogged but stays open, the top may darken and you've got a blackhead. A pimple happens when dead skin and bacteria work their way under live skin. This leads to a small infection that makes your skin look red.

What Causes Acne?

Although everyone is different, acne is usually caused by the build up of oil and dead skin in a pore. This build up of oil and dead skin is caused because of:

Natural hormones. These are particularly active in your teens.
Plugged skin. Lots of skin cells can close the oil glands or pores, creating blackheads or whiteheads, (as mentioned earlier).
Bacteria. Bacteria can easily infect oil glands and pores and grow very quickly.
Family background. If you have acne, your kids are more likely to have it too.
How To Reduce An Acne Problem

You shouldn’t squeeze, pick, scratch, or rub your skin as it makes the problem worse, and it might even cause scarring.
Regularly shampoo your hair, and try to keep it off your face if possible - especially at night.
Keep a food diary to work out if you are one of the few people whose acne gets worse if they eat certain things.
Exercise regularly to get the old blood flowing, and make sure you get a wash as soon after as possible.
Avoid unnecessarily touching your face.
If possible, try to minimize your stress levels.
Avoid getting sunburned.
Change your wash cloth every day, as bacteria can grow on damp cloth.
Wash your face twice a day with a gentle soap like Dove or Lever 2000.
Always rinse really well with lots of water.
Only wear makeup on special occasions, and then make sure you remove it completely.
Granular facial scrub can make acne worse by aggravating the skin.

Beauty Foods

Apple Cider Vinegar
Beside having amazing healing properties, apple cider vinegar keeps skin supple. It's heavy concentration of enzymes helps peel off dead skin cells. It breaks down fat and helps food digest properly.

Cranberries

Tomatoes
These "love apples" will keep you loving your skin. Tomatoes are rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, and potassium.

Wheat Germ
If you want to get rid of pimples quickly and efficiently, make sure to include two or three tablespoons a day in your diet. Add it to cereal, yogurt, and cottage cheese.

You should choose foods that you enjoy, of course, but you need to include the following:

Vegetables
Three to five servings daily. Try to include one serving of raw, leafy greens.

Meat
Have no more than three three ounce servings a day. Cut off all fat. Try to make two servings of turkey or chicken. One serving of fish a day is ideal.

Fruits
Two to three servings daily. A 1/2 cup of chopped or sliced fruit is a serving.

Dairy
At least two servings daily. A serving would be eight ounces of milk or yogurt.

Fats
Salad dressing, cooking oil, butter, and mayonnaise should be limited to two servings a day.

Well I hope at least something you find here helps you out!!!...I don't know if we already have a topic on this...but this place has everything...from tips to recipes..(lol)...enjoy..I know I did.. rolleyes.gif

Drink hot water with lemon

Studies have shown that hot water doesn't actually speed up a metabolism. There was a test done to see if hot/warm water was any different from drinking cold water and there wasn't. A myth that many people believe is that by drinking hot/warm water, that it's easier for your body to absorb which is false. As far as the lemon, I wouldn't have a clue =)
