1.)When you display your artwork, Would you rather have it mounted on a white matboard or black?
2.)If you photograph it..White background or black?
Just wondering. I use both settings depending on the mood im trying to set.
It would depend on the colors in the piece that I want to display, and on the rest of the room's decor, but probably black.

black.
black is the standard for mounting design. i think it pretty much always looks better.
photography is trickier because mounting on black can visually desaturated your photos, esp if they are black and white since the darkest dark in your photo has to compete with the pure black of the mat board.
Well I use white at times.
At the photography studio I work at, We use black mostly. But at times we will use white. A lot of poster prints too, I have used white. And black is only standard because It doesn't reflect other light from other objects but I think it can drown out the images..
I found that with my first project, there was a section that had a white edge, and it was on a black mat board, it appeared to be sitting at an angle, though it was completely level. I think it was more the image than the mat board, but a girl in my class put black paper behind the picture, and then mounted it on a white mat board, her picture looked fine. (it was a retouch project so all of the images were the same).
Some mat boards come with the angled white edge to accent the black.
