(I made a Smallville thread before, but it was about the ninth season and is dead anyway, so here's to a new thread)

Comic Con ended a couple of days ago, so I thought now is the time to bring it up. Smallville begins it's tenth and final (it's been confirmed as definitely the final) season on Friday, September 25th. It's a huge achievement to have a show run so long. Is anybody else excited for it? I think the show started off good and lost it's way, but the last couple season have really turned the show around, and I think the tenth season might be the show's best. There are already some old characters confirmed to return, like Supergirl, Brainiac, Jonathon Kent, Hawkman, and that's just for the first four episodes. They're trying to get Lana, Lex and Lionel to come back as well. I'm really excited, I'm a nerd for this show. biggrin.gif It's so cool looking back to see how much the show has changed from the first season. What are your thoughts on the show thus far and the final season?

Here's some stuff talking about what's to come:

Smallville buzz, the best place to get info on the show: http://smallvillebuzz.net/

Krypton site, another good place: kryptonsite.com

This trailer is the last minute and a half of the trailer below. It includes just the part about season 10.

This trailer is seven minutes long, and for the first 5 and a 1/2 it reviews the past 9 seasons. It's a really cool walk down memory lane.

I've been watching Smallville since the pilot episode first aired on tv and after a long run, I'm definitely going to miss it. I can't wait to see how the final season will play out since Smallville has had it's share of good and bad.

I'm sad as hell, I admit it. It's time for the show to move on, but I only started enjoying it after season 7. I'd like for the show to end on a high note.

Lots of good stuff in the teaser and the season 9 finale was amazing (at least, I think that it was).

Yeah, I thought it was too. I really like how they've changed the mythology so Lois knows about Clark before he becomes Superman. It's going to be an interesting dynamic that plays into him becoming the hero we know him to be.

I was hoping Lois would find out earlier last season but it played out nicely. The "reveal" was very fun to watch.

How do you feel about Chloe not being a regular next season?

Yeah I can how some people feel that way, but personally I thought it worked out better for the story arch, the way Clark and Lois started dating and he had to keep lying to her. It portrayed their relationship differently from Clark and Lana, in the sense that Clark isn't telling her because she might think of him differently, but because now he's the blur and it could put her in danger. Also in how Lois didn't demand to know the truth because she thinks she has the right to know, but because Clark lying to her anymore would undermine their relationship and what they mean to each other. It was also cool, because after Lois started talking to the Blur near the end of the previous season, she's become somebody who can relate to Clark. Clark has a higher calling, a destiny he feels needs to be fulfilled. Everyday he, "wakes up with a purpose", as he said. With Lois talking to the Blur and helping him made her feel the same way. To watch their dynamic play out over a longer period of time I think just enriched their relationship, and thus the show. Lol geek rambling

I understand why Allison wants to move on, 9 years is a long time for any show. She's actually performing a theater show in NYC right now, called Love, Loss, and What I Wore. But she'll be back. She already filmed the first episode and will show up again halfway through the season (hopefully she'll be back for the second half entirely). It's interesting though, because it looks like she'll become the next Doctor Fate. The interviews from comic con seem to suggest she becomes Doctor Fate as part of deal, so Darkseid's people will release Oliver from captivity, and that Oliver's journey this season (at least for the first half) will be to find Chloe, which will lead to him joining the Suicide Squad. It sounds like a good story. It just means the writers will have to make really good use of her screen time. My guess is that Chloe still has some part of Brainiac left in her and Darkseid wants her for the anti life equation Brainiac probably has. But we'll see.

How do you feel about it?

I've been back and forth about Chloe the past couple of years. Last season I thought that she was far too judgemental and quite frankly, hypocritical. She kept more secrets than anyone else yet was quick to get on Clark's case time and time again. Several episodes had me wondering why he put up with her meddling crap. Of course, her information traffic control was helpful. I don't know, I have mixed feelings, in general about Chloe.

That being said, I can't imagine her not being around since she's been such a staple of the series. I do not, let me repeat, DO NOT like the idea of her becoming Dr. Fate. That should have gone to Inza (Dr. Fate's wife). I don't mind the off canon stuff but this is the type of story telling decision making on Smallville that makes me crazy.

I've got more to add, but I need coffee, a shower and need to head to work. haha

I took it as Chloe was harsh on Clark because really, Doomsday was mostly her fault, and she feels responsible for the death of Jimmy. So when Clark hesitated, Chloe recognized that part of herself (whether she was aware of not) and picked at it... and tried to pretend Doomsday wasn't her fault and kind of blamed it on Clark, a little bit. They've been best friends for nine years, I think Clark knows Chloe that well and put up with it. I didn't always agree with Chloe this season, but she always had good intentions despite her methods. But this last season, we need to see some serious Clark and Chloe bonding to make up for their spats. If you watch the first seven seasons (especially after Chloe found out about Clark) their friendship becomes really great to watch.

I don't think she'll stay Doctor Fate forever, just for the first half ish of the season

It's weird, because the more I re-watch Season 9, the less irritated I get with Chloe. I'm not sure if that has anything to do with next season being the last season, or if it's because Mack will not be a regular next year or what.

I'm growing more and more nostalgic as the final season premier gets closer.

Maybe it was seeing Chloe realizing that she was wrong in the end and apologizing to Clark.

Same. I've been going back and watching random episodes in the first eight years (since season 9 is coming out Sept. 7) and it's really cool seeing how much the show has changed. Each season is different. It's also fun seeing character interactions earlier in the show because of how much they've also evolved.

^Nice.

What do you guys think so far? The first two episodes were good, I have a mixed reaction about the Supergirl episode.

Next week is the 200th episode!

Aw, I loved Supergirl. Then again, I like the character and I like how she's portrayed in the show. She's adorable and a half, in my opinion.

I've really enjoyed all of the episodes so far, thought it's a bit bittersweet, knowing that it's the last season.

I've been waiting for the Homecoming since the episode description was announced a while back.

When I have more time, I'll write up some reviews. I've been wanting to do that anyway. :)

I liked parts of it, I just felt like Clark was bashed way too much. I get they're trying to focus on this last hurdle he has to overcome, but seriously, the guy thought he was sacrificing his life to save the world and nobody seems to thank him for it. I like Kara, I just thought she was a bit condescending. Jor-El too. I guess my final opinion depends on if they come back and Clark totally proves them wrong. It would be nice if Jor-El was like "Sorry son I had to be like that, I was just pushing you to blah blah blah etc." Darkseid was interesting, I've only read some of the comics so I don't really have a frame of reference though.

Homecoming looks great! If you have time, you might want to go back and watch a couple of key episodes before it airs. Such as the pilot, the season finales and premieres, other important episodes (like Reckoning, where Jonathon died, and such). It would make the episode that much better.

Oh, I'd really like to read your reviews, looking forward to it.

Jor-El has always been something of a douche though. I actually wince whenever he's mentioned.

Darkseid is one of my favorite DC villians, so I'm enthusiastic to see what more they do with him. I'm also eager to see Granny Goodness because, come on! They have to give Granny some play.

In addition, I'm fond of the Suicide Squad. I'm not bubbling with joy with regards to Deadshot (he was a little too Jonah Hex for me), but I can live with it.

Here's the thing with Kara - she's young (even though per series, she's older in years but was suspended in animation). She's going to be more of a blind faith follower and being that Krypton seemed like a patriarchal society, it makes sense that she would do Jor-El's bidding.

If I have time, I'd love to re-watch some episodes.

Hahaha true.

Granny Goodness is going to be in the ninth episode, "Patriot."

Yeah you make a good point about Kara. I never thought of that patriarchal aspect. Hopefully she can squeeze one more appearance in between her schedule with V.

Yeah try to do that.
