1. Toshiba Gigabeat S Series

The one gadget that grabbed everyone at Engadget's attention right at the beginning of the show was Toshiba's new Gigabeat S Series Portable Media Center. Portable video players are a dime-a-dozen these days, but the new Gigabeat looks like it'll have the skills to take on the iPod: a sleek, thin, light brushed aluminum casing, a crisp, bright QVGA display, and -- and here's the really important part -- it offers full integration with Vongo, that new online video download subscription service from Starz that'll let you download as many movies as you want from their catalog and watch them on your portable device.

engadget video showing it off. it's rather thin, and uses USB mini.

and it's supposed to work with a new napster like video service: full length movies, 9.99 a month.

That does look really bad ass.

Posted by: pandamonium Jan 10 2006, 07:48 PM

amazing. 20 hours of music and 5 hours of video is awesome. so wait lemme get this straight you can download from the Gigabeat like download video?

Posted by: xnofearx Jan 10 2006, 08:28 PM

I was telling a few guys at work about this awesome player, pity they wouldn't believe me. They keep going IPOD! IPOD! IPOD! I think I might consider giving up my H10 for this neat little device. One thing I don't see though is the voice recorder which may come in handy for me.

and for $299, that would be a better deal than the 5th Generation iPod, since you get a few extra features, and a smaller player.

This is a really nice looking player as well...

Two Thumbs Up!

I saw this.
When I did.
THe next thing I know, I'm in the emergency room with my hands sticking out in the middle of the air.

^ When I saw this, I got a boner...

It's so orgasmic...

Posted by: i_liek_sushi Jan 11 2006, 06:38 PM

wow, looks nice.

Posted by: Smoogrish Jan 11 2006, 07:05 PM

Wow. That's so.. shiny!

I think Apple trains its employees to brainwash poor children into believeing "IPOD IS GOD"

I can hear them chanting it in their secret mountainside hideaway.

Posted by: vash1530 Jan 11 2006, 07:24 PM

wow that shoots to number 1 on my "mp3 players to die for" list!

Posted by: xnofearx Jan 13 2006, 08:26 PM

As soon as I get this neat little device, my H10 will retire into Eddie's Wall of MP3 Players.

Posted by: RiC3xBoy Jan 13 2006, 09:35 PM

I think my eyes just ejaculated.

Posted by: xnofearx Jan 14 2006, 12:12 AM

^ Mine already did...

Anyone have pics of the Piano Black 60 gig one ? Im interested in this, but my mind has been set on the u10 for so long. But although the iRiver has better features IMO, the toshiba kills the iRiver with its storage capacity.

mmm. 231.

i've got SATs in less than 2 weeks tho, and a lot of other stuff between now and then. so i'm kinda worrying.

Posted by: xnofearx Jan 17 2006, 01:17 PM

Question....

Will this player play MPEG4, AVI, and DIVX?

Good luck on those! I meant to be taking those SATs, but it's ridiculously hard to sign up for things at my school.

theoretically, it can play anything windows media player can play ( i think. i think it plays a certain few, and windows media converts the rest to one of those)

mmm. a kid at my school got a 239.

there was a freshman at mine who only missed one math question
a sophomore who missed two
and obviously i mean none of the others
i don't know how my class did, but most people i talked to had over 210
meanwhile, i'm retarded and got a 192, which was actually a significant improvement
I WANT MY STANDARDIZED TESTING SKILLS BACK, DAMMIT

Posted by: tic tac. Jan 17 2006, 08:29 PM

I want it! D: I doubt I'm gonna get it though.. I just got a iriver h10 a few weeks ago. :\

Posted by: kryogenix Jan 17 2006, 10:13 PM

Vorbis support?

Posted by: xnofearx Jan 17 2006, 10:17 PM

^ ooh, didn't think about that one, I hope so...

Posted by: sadolakced acid Jan 18 2006, 05:19 PM

don't think there'll be vorbis support.

it does, after all, run on microsoft's PMC software.

what i want is this, and a toshiba quosimo.

why buy shows when you can use a media center TV to transfer to this player?

Posted by: DaToNeViEtBoI916 Jan 18 2006, 11:49 PM

I like it.

I read the cnet report on it. The side buttons were confusing? Lmao. Play/pause, next track, last track, etc. Unlabeled?!

it's very sleek.

Posted by: xnofearx Feb 1 2006, 01:52 PM

So uh...

When does this come out?

never mind....

It comes out in March.

Posted by: Petrified Feb 1 2006, 02:17 PM

Sweet mp3 player.

Posted by: EmmalieV Feb 4 2006, 11:15 PM

the pictures that are inside the mp3 player look like the ones from the new iriver 0_o

Posted by: guilinger123 Feb 5 2006, 03:26 PM

It's seriously Toshiba??
My laptop is Toshiba, that looks kiss-ass, though.

Posted by: Hiphop d[-_-]b Feb 8 2006, 11:36 PM

I might be getting this. Depends. My friend wants to sell me his video ipod for 200. But ima tryna work my magic and get it for free. or at least lowered to 100.

Posted by: xnofearx Feb 10 2006, 08:53 AM

^ I'd rather get the Gigabeat S, I'm a sound junkie, and I like good sound quality. lol
