I'm a novice,what's the layout?

Posted by: tokyo-rose Jun 6 2010, 05:11 AM

I suggest choosing a better banner font and thinning/lightening the borders before you start coding.

Idk.

Posted by: Cum Jun 13 2010, 11:06 PM

Anyways.. for the coding part, how do you want your layout to be?

Posted by: Mikeplyts Jun 13 2010, 11:15 PM

I don't understand, you design layouts but can't code them? So, does someone else always have to code it for you? Do you know anything about HTML/CSS? Do you know how to make actual web page documents (i.e. - not myspace layouts or shit like that)? What sections are you trying to code? Do you have any current codes? If so, post them here.

We can't really help you if you don't provide more descriptive and specific information.

Posted by: jiyong Jun 14 2010, 03:28 PM

The image itself need some work, but what exactly did you need help with? There's many aspects to making a website - did you need help with all aspects, or just a few? The image you provided doesn't provide enough information to tell us what you need.

I don't understand, you design layouts but can't code them? -Sadly,yes.
So, does someone else always have to code it for you? -No,i usually ask someone on here if they dont mind if i use the code for one of their layouts, and just get other bits and peices from else where on the web.
Do you know anything about HTML/CSS? -I know Html,Css,Php,and MYSQL.I just really dont know where to start when it comes to creating a full fledge website.
Do you know how to make actual web page documents (i.e. - not myspace layouts or shit like that)? -Uh,yea...¬_¬.
What sections are you trying to code? -The main section that will be used for updates/news and the sidebar that will have the navigation and such in it.
Do you have any current codes? If so, post them here.- I do.But i don't like it so i feel like theres no use of me posting it.I can modify the layout and put everything i want on it and where in photoshop so what id like help with will be a bit more opaque.

&&,in response to Cum *gigglegiggle, sorry* uhm, like i said up there ^^^ i'll post a rendition of the layout and make it look how i want it to look in the end result.

This is what i want it to look like.I made another layout thats simpler(i might modify this one,but not much).

@jiyong: I only need help with the design aspects of the site.Everything else like page creation/content/scripts,i should be able to handle.

What the f*ck?

Do you need help coding it, designing, it, both? It sounds like you're requesting a layout. Good luck hiring someone. XD.gif

Makes sense. There are lot of people who work in a coder/designer partnership. It's just easier to find people who want to design rather then code at your stage in the game. You really are better off learning just the basics of what you need.

Nein!I need help with coding,not...ugh...ok let me REPHRASE.I need help with the CODING aspects of the site,i've already come up with the design.I just need help with putting the divs where they should be and making it look good.Damn...I know im uber confusing at times.Sorry.>.<

I'm not sure why people are making a big deal about the image and just not posting any sort of code...

Uhm, but, is there going to be a navigation somewhere in the layout? Or what?

Tell me that, and I'll see what I can do to help code it for you.

Because the image/layout design itself needs improvement before it should be coded. None of us agreed to code the layout for her, hence, no posted code.

It's all right if you don't want to take my suggestion, but you didn't respond to a lot of members' feedback worth considering/implementing before requesting coding help.

Well what about the other layout i posted as a display of what i wanted the site to look like?Is it codable?I mean if you think i should stick with the first one and just take your advice by thinning the borders and such,i will.Im not in any major rush so whatever i need to do to get my website up and running its fine, idc how long it takes.
&& what do you mean by ' you didn't respond to a lot of members' feedback worth considering/implementing before requesting coding help.'?

Posted by: Mikeplyts Jun 25 2010, 01:04 PM

No, anything is "code-able". It's just, you should really improve the appearance of the design itself. In my honest opinion, coding is just as good as the designing. So, make a whole new layout that's at least decent and not so busy with brushes, patterns, slapped-on images, etc. Then, you can consider getting coding help for it.

In short, (and sorry if this sounds rude, but it's true) I wouldn't like to code those layouts at all because the design of the layout doesn't seem fitting for something I would take my time to code for you.

That's where your downfall is ;]
Every design could use an improvement
There is always room for improvements
When you lock yourself into this "ZOMG THIS LYT IS AMAZING !!!!1!111!" mindset, you're never gonna learn.

Edit:
NO JOEY?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
Crazy person.
Joey is awesome.

Oh noes, usually im really humble about my creations. It's just that im kind of frustrated about being told over and over that my stuff isn't good enough to do anything with.If anything i'd like some decent constructive critisism so i CAN make some improvision.

We did give you decent constructive criticism. wink.gif

Well. I'd say that the biggest thing you're doing wrong is overusing the textures. There are textures *everywhere* and sometimes I just wanna see a little bit of solid color. The patterns get distracting and it can also make it harder to read the text on the page.

Another thing I would suggest is to use http://colourlovers.com to find color palettes to use so your layouts don't look the same every single time.

Just play around with it! :D
And remember: the over use of splatters can look terrible.

Sorry for the terribly slow reply.I've been working on a new layout. The only image in this one will be the banner(you know, everything else will be divs with solid backgrounds). When im closer to being done ill post a screenshot(and or and link, idk) and i wanna know if it looks ok or not ^_^.

The content is pushed off to the right side. This is what it looks like for me:

The .main section has a left margin of 300px. If you're trying to center it, you should set the left and right margins to "auto" instead.

Your using a lot of "bad code" mellow.gif

Elements such as -

CODE
<center>, <br />, <span>

Isn't really ideal. You should try and learn a bit more CSS. Wrap your content in some kind of container, such as some divs, so you can actually position the objects on your site. (Theres more problems then that.)

Ugh point is, learn CSS.

Edit: I just relies this thread was 2 months old, oh well.
