did anybody watch this? i thought it was surprisingly good. reasons why you should go see it? 1) the script was well written 2) the scenes were shot beautifully and i very much enjoyed the soundtrack 3) good acting

did anybody notice rooney mara playing his girlfriend? she's going to be lisbeth salander in the girl with the dragon tattoo

I saw it last Friday. It was decent, although way overhyped -- some critics compared it to Citizen Kane, and Citizen Kane it was not. I also expected a better script from Aaron Sorkin, but I think he still did a good job of taking something that's an interesting story in theory, but not necessarily for a movie, and writing a pretty good film.

I agree with this. I still very much enjoyed the film though... I just didn't think it was amaaaaazing, like some of my friend made it out to be.

no

it had a few strong points (ie it actually showed hacking as something other than sitting in front of a green terminal while typing nonsensical code) but other than that it was just Antitrust with different characters.

The Social Network was nothing like Antitrust. I'll start with the point that The Social Network wasn't a murder mystery and work my way up from there if I have to.

Antitrust hardly had a mystery to it.

In any case, the murder in Antitrust was just symbolic and in all honesty the movie would have made just as much sense if the main character was trying to find out who egged his house.

I suppose you didn't see the connection between Avatar and Pocahontas either?

Wow, we got a regular film sleuth over here. You must read a lot of blogs or somethin'.

But really, the only similarities between Antitrust and The Social Network are that each features a CEO who isn't afraid to step on a few people to make it to the top. But the difference -- and thematically, this is a major element -- is that the CEO in Antitrust hurts people he doesn't like or doesn't know or doesn't give a shit about, whereas the CEO in The Social Network -- and this is crucial -- is willing to betray people close to him, like his best friend and the only girl he really ever loved, in order to make it to the top. That makes all the difference: anyone can kill people they don't know, but not everyone will throw their best friends to the wolves. Because of that, Antitrust becomes little more than a thriller, whereas The Social Network gets allusions to Citizen Kane (which I think are unfounded, but that's beside the point).

I won't even go into the stark cinematographic differences between the two films.

true ....PAUSE HARRY POTTER TRAILER JUST CAME ON. FIRST TIME SEEING IT.... i just saw it sunday night and i knew i wasn't going to be impressed because Mark whateverhislastnameis said on Oprah that majority of it was pretty much crap for the movie and the first 2 years were spent coding (or something like that). everyone and everything was nice to look at because it wasn't all crispy glamor. the cast seemed quite dedicated to their roles.

I don't think the fact that the movie's storyline isn't accurate should affect whether you're impressed or not though. =\

I totally totally loved it. And I thought the soundtrack sounded like book of eli before I found out it was done by Atticus Ross. (guy who did the book of eli soundtrack.)

I found it very personally inspiring. Also... I think the packaging may have been the best part. You can't see but it has this matter, rubbery texture.
