Forums _ Writing _ Character needs a last name...

Posted by: Crueldade Mar 23 2007, 09:11 PM

So I'm writing this story, and I need a name for my main character.

I'm thinking of either Dana (Day-nah) or Hayley, but I'm horrid at thinking up last names. Any suggestions that go with either one of those two first names?

Richards was the first thing that came in my head. But you know, if it's too common and you're looking for something different, look some up on Google. happy.gif

Are you just picking a name just to pick a name? I don't know.. what kind of character is she? What's her personality like? Maybe it's just me, but I like researching names and trying to match them with the characters. But if you'd like me to choose between those two names, I prefer Hayley.

Yeah, it'd help to know more about the personality.

Like Jenkins is a common last name for characters in the military.

The name should match the character and the setting of the book... Not just if it sounds good.

http://www.last-names.net/ <- has lots of European last names and meanings.

Yeah, I guess that's a good idea...I'm not too big on names though anyway as long as it sounds okay. I mean, it's not like I mention their last name on every page.
