Try something in the Dan Brown series...
Da Vinci Code, Demons and Angels
Ashes of the Elements
It's by Alys Clare.
Very good, in my opinion.
memoirs of a geisha. very very good.
To kill a mockingbird by Harper Lee. It's a great book.
Try some books by HP Lovecraft, great books of the horror genre.
crime & punishment or the things they carried.

I'd recommend...
The Catcher and the Rye
A Clockwork Orange (it's short, but the language might be hard to decipher. Amazing read though, and there is also a movie you could watch to go along with it)
Farenheit 451
Flowers for Algernon was a pretty good book.
I also recommend the Chronicles of Narnia series ( the whole seven; not just The Lion, The Witch, And the Wardrobe. ), they've gathered me some lot of AR points, and kept me busy for a while. :]
As well as Harry potter of course, they drag in many points as well.
Good luck on your AR. :]
Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is quite the marvelous book.
^^Yes! I liked that book, kinda sad ending though
Even though it's been 2 years, I'm willing to keep up suggestions. Green Angel by Alice Hoffman is an amazing book/story. You'll love it. Interview with the Vampire is captivating. Read it!

I suggest reading White Fang by Jack London, Loamhedge by Brian Jacques, Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. And the Harry Potter books get you lots of AR points, if you haven't already done those.
^Ew, Jack London. </3
I'm sorry, I just thought Call of the Wild was unbearably boring. Jack London shouldn't have been allowed to write. "The moose was killed by Buck." "Buck killed the moose." "Answering the call, Buck did." "Buck answered the call."
-___-
I bet you read Call of the Wild as study in class. It butchers the point of reading. If you read Jack London books for leisure, you get the message in a deeper way than just similes and metaphors and imagery.
I did, haha. But we actually had to tell why Buck answered the call and all that jazz. It was about "going back to his roots" or whatever. :snore:
But I read The Giver in class, and I thought it was excellent.
^ Exactly the case here. We had to analyze that little poem at the beginning of the book, and about tracing back to his roots, which I found an extreme waste of time. But the book itself was amazing in my opinion, not as amazing as Whitefang, but pretty amazing.
I'm going to read The Giver in class next year, and I've heard either "I hated it" or "I loved it". I read the first few chapters and thought it was kind of intriguing.
OMFG the poem. -___- Ew. Please, please please don't remind me.
I have to read Alas, Babylon for the summer. I haven't heard good things about it. >_>;;
