It's a smart idea, I'm actually thinking of doing that next year. I have a friend that graduated last year and got into her first choice for college and she had taken a class there over the summer. It lets you see some of the campus if you haven't already and get to know how some of the professors teach. I would say go for it.

It can't hurt. If you're set on going to the school the next year and you take a summer course you may realize that it isn't what you thought it was, or you may like it better than you though (especially if it isn't your first choice). The school that I am going to now wasn't my first choice, but I took a math booster class over the summer and ended up liking it, so I stayed. I also felt like I didn't go through being worried the first or lost like most of the new people were, because already had experience there.

If I can't get a job, I plan on taking a college class over the summer instead. I don't think it could really hurt you in any way.

It will improve your resume... but only if you do well.
