Many Boston teens say that Rihanna was at fault for the ass-whopping she caught Options

Nearly half of the 200 Boston teenagers interviewed for an informal poll said pop star Rihanna was responsible for the beating she allegedly took at the hands of her boyfriend, fellow music star Chris Brown, in February.

Of those questioned, ages 12 to 19, 71 percent said that arguing was a normal part of a relationship; 44 percent said fighting was a routine occurrence.

The results of the survey, conducted by the Boston Public Health Commission across the city and equally among boys and girls, are startling for local health workers who see a generation of youths who seem to have grown accustomed, even insensitive, to domestic violence.

"I think you'd have to be pretty jaded if you weren't startled by it," said Casey Corcoran, director of the health commission's new Start Strong program.

The program began in the fall as part of a Start Strong: Building Healthy Teen Relationships Initiative, a private foundation program that was offered in 11 cities across the country. Corcoran said the four-year, $1 million competitive grant program will allow the city to train mentors and outreach workers to speak to 11- to 14-year-olds about the dangers of domestic violence.

Corcoran said the Rihanna and Brown controversy, which is one of today's top entertainment news stories and a topic of conversation for young people, allows for teachers and parents to begin conversations about the dangers, and prevalence, of domestic violence.

"This is something tough for parents to bring up, but this is a very big case regarding domestic violence," said Corcoran, pointing out that Oprah Winfrey devoted her television show yesterday to teen dating violence and featured the Start Strong initiative.

"This is an opportunity to start those conversations; it shouldn't end with a survey," Corcoran said.

for some reason i'm not that surprised.
i think some people feel that this has been happening to Rihanna for a while and that it is her fault that she let it reach to this extent. just a thought.

I grew up with domestic violence, so it was something that I was used to. It isn't something that I would say I am ok with, but it became "normal" for me. I don't think the article mentions how many of these children come from abusive homes. If these children come from homes with one mom and one dad who are both nurturing parents, then yes I would be disturbed by this survey.

Thats really a damn shame the media is more focused on the actual story of this situation with cb and rihanna then on how dangerous the cycle of Domestic Violence is.

i saw this chick on oprah who said that she thought rhianna deserved it to an extent by the fact that rhiana got back with him. she said that she took that as rhianna was guilty feeling and must have thought it was somewhat deserved since she took him back.

Well for started the fact that it's stated Boston teens say that it's rihanna's fault that doesn't really move me cause it's boston teens this happened in LA so stating where their from doesn't really mean anything
but also i mean in things pertaining to domestic violence usually the girl goes back to the guy either out of fear or they are usually caught up in emotions and feelings

That never existed. I'm not sayin that as soon as she raises her voice to slap her... of course try to calm her ass down and warn her that she's about to be put in her place. If she still continues to disrespect, a nice love tap to the cheek will wake her ass up

It's a survey. It should include both guys and girls to be an accurate make-up of teens.
