Your blanket rebuttal is a laughable one. "What most people don't understand..." It's too late for such a broad generalization to later elaborate on. As of now, you've initiated a debate that's out of your league and out of your realm of understanding. What you fail to comprehend is that, simply put, there is so much money flowing into this country, that, if I'm not on a patrol, I feel like I'm at a stateside duty station. Most luxuries that would be available to me at 29 Palms, are also available to the troops here. Granted, there is still a threat of violence on the various routes of transportation that are right around the corner; it's not as bad as Afghanistan, the Philippines, Ethiopia, Somalia, Haiti, etc. The fact of the matter is that when a Forward Operating Base receives double the funding of a permanent post, there is a problem.

Looking back when people ask us what we were doing when Obama was elected all we can say is "posting on a forum"

I was in DC when it was announced. The entire city, just, like exploded. People were shouting, there was a drum circle, random strangers were hugging. It was tiddly-winksing amazing. I've never experienced anything that awesome; feeling connected to people on that level, where you can look random strangers in the eye and be like, "oh yeah."
