Seriously I have too much 100 dollar bills in cash I wanna save up, and I don't feel like keeping them in my wallet. I just want to get my own bank account, get a debit card, and spend them wisely. I mean come on .. what's better bringing with you to a mall? Pocket/Wallet full of 100 dollar, 50 dollar bills or one clean visa/american express card with those amount of money IN IT? my mom's like "U DONT NEED IT!!!!" in a dumb voice .. most high school kids have one here.

You definitely don't need it. Once you turn 18 just get one on your own. My debit card should come in the mail soon.

I have one, but for gas and other things, I totally agree with you about having so much money.

Your point?

My parents screwed me out of $1550 of my money so I just waited until I was 18 and did what I wanted. I don't bitch about it on internet forums. Once you're 18 it's your life; until then, wait it out.

Maybe she's afraid of you f**king her over. Try to show that you are responsible.

But I feel ya, I wouldn't want to be carrying around 100 dollar bills anyway. Did you finally get a job

Look, I'm a high school freshman. My parents want me to study hard, not get jobs and to work hard. Why would anyone hire me anyway? Who would hire a 9th grader with no working experience?

I agree with Suzette, I have a debit card, or use to. I didn't really feel like having to always go to the bank to put more money in my account to save up and such, then I just started working on the internet and just use a paypal card. I don't see how it could be a really big problem, but theres something in her mind that doesn't want you to have one, so be more responsible and prove to her that you deserve it. Sheesh you seem to always have some problem with your parents.

Debit cards are really simular to check cards. Depeding on where you live you can withdrawl money with your debit card, that may be why your mom doesn't want you to have one. It might not be that she doesn't think you're responsible enough, but if someone gets ahold of your card they can withdrawl the money. They can be nice, though, if you do online shopping. In my opinion, if you don't want to have money laying around but don't want the risk of someone getting ahold of your card and money get a check book. That's what I did. It's sooo much easier than carrying a lot of cash.

^Well then I suggest if he ever goes shopping which most do in a mall, they ask for a ID card along with debit cards most of the time so more than likely they wouldn't be able to get away with it.

^ Eh, true. My mom has always been against younger people getting debit cards. I guess she has her reasons. She's an accountant, so she knows all kinds of stuff that they do at the bank. She's even let me get a credit card, just not a debit card.

If you don't have more than 1000$ don't do it because then you'll have a gang of different charges on your account and shit.

yeah my uncle did that to his so jsut beacuse he was under 18 and had access to his account.

so either get emancipated like me that way you have no reason about your mum ruining your life or wait till your 18.

If you don't work, where are you getting all this money?

If your parents are giving it to you, then I wouldn't complain which way it came, just the fact that you have that much going to the mall is nice.
I have a debit card, and it can be nice, especially when getting gas for your car. Perhaps when you get older your parents will realize it would be better to open a checking account for you. In a way your mom is right though, You don't need one. It's just more of a convience having one.
Maybe she just wants you to show more maturity before she gets you one or something? I dunno. Try talking with her about it again, and if she still doesn't, then lemme tell you, a lot of things get easier when you turn 18.

LOL.
The summer before 11th grade, I got hired and I had no working experience. ermm.gif

Anyway, Jason, the only reason why I asked you if you had a job is because I was wondering what your source of income was. I mean you talkin about hundreds of dollars here and I know it had nothing to do with you hustling, sex, or your music.

So anyway, how ARE you getting all this money?

For DAMN sure

^ haha I guess that explains it.

I didn't get one till this year (11th grade). Plus to get mine they made me get an ID card so I had to go through all that crap for a card. Having the debit card made me spend more money. pinch.gif

^ Yea same for me. I was trying to find a job but no time. If I did I would have to go through all that work permit stuff too. Having cash is so much better, because you can stop yourself when your going broke.

I had $300 on my card after christmas... now I only have $9.... mellow.gif pinch.gif

But if you lose a 100 dollar bill it's gone for life, basically. If you lose a Debit Card, you can cancel it and get your money.
mellow.gif ... shrug.gif

why don`t you just ask your mom and tell us her reply?

well then..thats like saying, "why would they hire a college student with no working experience?"

thats what first jobs are for. they may be useless or whatever..but it's a start!
